A friend recently recommended Ne Obliviscaris (http://www.neobliviscaris.com/) and Be'Lakor (http://www.belakor.net/) who are producing some great stuff in Melbourne. Then there's Psycroptic (http://www.psycroptic.com/) and Ruins (http://www.myspace.com/ruinsblackmetal) from the Haley boys in Tasmania. I was also really impressed by Stargazer (http://www.myspace.com/theserpentinquisitor) from Adelaide when they played in Sydney a while ago...

Please recommend some others!

Some other great Aussie metal acts are Alarum (ttp://www.myspace.com/alarummusic) (who have toured with Necrophagist \m/!) They've got some awesome Atheist/Cynic inspired tech-death tracks. Then there's Pathogen (http://www.myspace.com/pathogen) who have their own take on the melodic death sound. They're well worth checking out too.

There are also our good friends Sword Towards Self (http://www.myspace.com/swordtowardself), Sefira Drakonis (ex-Chapel) (http://www.myspace.com/sefiradrakonis), Bane of Isildur (http://www.myspace.com/baneofisildur) and Killrazer (http://www.myspace.com/killrazer) in Sydney as well as Black Asylum (http://www.myspace.com/blackasylum) from the central coast.

If you haven't checked it out already, make sure you listen to Denis Vlachiotis (http://www.myspace.com/dvlachiotis)' solo projoect too. He's doing some crazy stuff!

Anarchsphere from Melbourne are supposed to be playing with Testament in September. Sort of like a thrash/death style to their music.

Mortification are an old school death/thrash band from Melbourne as well. May be a little obvious to some of you but I thought that they were worth the mention. Highly recommend the album Scrolls Of The Megolith. I personally rank it up there with other early 90s death metal albums such as Legion, The End Complete, Human, Clandestine and Covenant

The Amenta, Horde, Deracination and Frankenbok are all great bands as well.

I must admit I've not heard of Mortification before. You rank it up there with Human!? That's very high praise! I'll check them out for sure.

Well, Scrolls Of The Megolith is not as technically advanced as Human; particularly in the guitar and bass lines. However, it is still a very aggressive offering. Metal critics have often cited that it is "an Australian piece of metal history" so it is definatly worth the listen. :)
