I heavily enjoy all of the 4 "progressive era" death albums, but human has to be my favorite. The cymbal work is so fucking interesting on every single song, definitely one of my favorite drum performances ever.

If you're going with Malevolent Creation it has to be Retribution.
For Death flip a coin tales Sound of Perseverance, heads Human. Win win situation really and my 2 favorite Death albums.

Either TSoP or Human for Death, and Retribution or Envenomed for Malevolent Creation.

Human- most brutal progressive release, best drumming in my opinion. sean rinheart and paul from cynic.
ITP- more progrssive and a little less death metal but still pretty brutal and definetly more technical.
symbolic-Lots of awsome grooves and great production, best lyrics and vocal performance in my opinion right ahead of TSOP. Even more progrssive, less standard 8th note death metal riffing and simpler very catchy riffs.
TSOP- Over the top vocals, most progrssive album, very diverse, awesome guitar solos like all death releases, thrashiest drummer yet.
cant go wrong with those four.
I just ordered "Symbolic" yesterday.
i realized, just barley, that i didnt have any Death albums! i started listening to some of their shit again..love it haha so went on relapse's mailorder n' bought it. hope it comes fast.

i wouldn't go so far as to say shitty...i think it's a good album but it's my least favorite. some of the moments on it are the best stuff chuck ever did, but there are some riffs and sections that i have a hard time forgiving. the album would have been twice as good if it had been condensed to 45 minutes or so.

You just can't say that any Death album isn't good.
