Ok so i'm still trying to decide on a rack setup and i dont have a huge bundle of £££ so if i mess this up i'm pretty screwed.
pre amp: pretty much Vamp pro or POD pro xt.
The Vamp is much cheaper and supposedly easier to dial in (cheers FORBIDDEN!), but iv read other places that the pro xt's a huge
improvement on the older version and shits on the Vamp for USDM style rhythm tones. Basically i'm looking for SLG/CTF era Disgorge.
really thats all i ask damnit!!
power amp: solid state preferably.
Any recommendations? got about $400-500 tops to shell out. some shit is hard to get hold of over here so Carvin/Tech21 and kinda
smaller companies are out the window. Anyone have any experience of Carlsbro stuff. link: http://www.dv247.com/invt/40012/
Thats it for now.

I would recommend a Pod Pro rack unit, you can find them used on eBay for cheap. NOT the XT model, the original Pod Pro. Same one that Ed from Disgorge uses. The tones in the original Pod stuff are great. I would get that instead of the V-Amp for live use personally because the patch switching is much faster and the Rectified model sounds KILLER. There's also the Insane model which would probably cover that CTF sound pretty well. They go for about $200 on eBay plus another $100 or so for the big Floorboard if you need it.
As far as poweramps go you can get a cheap Rocktron Velocity poweramp for $100 that will do you just fine, I used a Pod XT Live and a Rocktron Velocity 120 when I was in Woods of Ypres.
If you look around and be patient, you could easily score that whole rig for $350 and it would sound pretty killer, I'd be happy with it.
Just to reinforce, the Pod XT sounds like absolute horrid ass, DO NOT BUY ONE NO MATTER HOW GOOD EVERYONE ELSE TELLS YOU IT IS. Way too hard to get a decent sound out of it and there is so much annoying digital fizz and other bullshit, it sounds awful. The original Pod 2.0 and Pod Pro sounds WAAAAY nicer and like REAL AMPS.

I have no problems with my pod xt. But i'll will admit it is hard as hell to dail in a decent tone....so forbidden is the vamp that good of a cheap modeller? I need to check into those..till i get on the waiting list for a fractal axe-fx.

I think both the most recent decrepit and odious promos were recorded with one.
