I've always wanted to get good at them and I have the money to blow right now.
I have to get an electric kit.. I know I'll get flamed for this but for obvious reasons I can't get an acoustic kit right now. I was thinking V-Drums (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...Set?sku=447840) Anybody have experience with these? How well do they simulate a real kit in terms of feel?
Also, would it take away too much time from guitar practice? In other words how much practice does it take to get decent (just assume what I mean when I say decent)? How hard is it to work up your double bass speed? Blast beats? Guitar is my main instrument and what I want to mainly focus on.

If you have practical reasons for getting an ekit, nobody should flame you. I have one as well, they have their purpose.
I tried the V-kits and didn't like the feel (felt too mushy for me) but I'm in the minority, everyone I've talked to loves them.
It takes alot of time to get decent, but your objective should be "good" not decent. Double bass speed takes alot of time and effort to work up. Yes, there are an extreme minority of naturals out there who pick it up quickly, but most take alot of time and practice.
The most important thing to remember is that it's not about speed, it's about consistency. This is a universal fact:
SOLID TIGHT PLAYING AT 180 BPM TROUNCES LOOSE SLOPPY FLAMMY SHIT AT 230 BPM EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK.
Too many drummers begin expecting to play Hate Eternal within weeks. They jump right into the deep end, and think they are playing fast but in reality their feet are flam machines and they are floating the tempo anyways. Start off slow and progressivly push yourself only when you've achieve a solid tight groove at your top tempos. And never stop playing slow. It sucks balls to hear a drummer who can rip at 240 bpm but can't play a goddamn AC/DC song because they never practice slower tempos.
Nobody got great over night. The best metal drummers in the world have been playing a looooong time. Don't get discouraged, have patience, push yourself, but always be realistic and set achievable goals.
Quality, not quantity.

Just hook the kit up to your computer with a midi cable and play with ezdrummer. Sounds awesome.
