Hey, so I'm getting a set of Pearl Eliminators, and I see that I can either get Belt Drive or Chain Drive. Any opinions on what's the better option? I'm honestly not sure if it makes a difference, but I figured I'd ask just in case there's something I don't know about.

Belt > Chain, imo. Smoother, quieter, lighter.
Axis or Trick are what you should really get.

Pearl Eliminators are damn good. I played both chain and belt, not a real big difference, but as wakey said they are lighter and maybe a bit smoother. Easier to maintain.

I like chain, I find belt too responsive almost - just cos I'm not use to them. But yeah, heaps of pedals are good - just try some, find the right one for you. I use Tama Iron Cobra's and have for ages - they're pretty sweet.

Well, the strap drive will feel a little lighter, but if you intend to play fast, the chain drive will be better. There's more slack in a strap drive pedal, so you'll tend to get a snapping effect due to the slack. The chain drive will be more solid, and the effect greatly reduced. Direct drive = no slack whatsoever, best overall feel IMO.

The good news is that you can get both (http://www.pearleurope.com/content/products/default.asp?classmainid=14&classsubid=162)! Just go with whatever you're used to. If you've had chain before, go with the chain and you can always get the belts and switch. No biggie - this is what I really like about Eliminators.
A lot of people say get Axis or Tricks but let me tell you, Eliminators are amazing pedals! I've played with Axis for 4½ years, but I also have Eliminators now, because I need an extra pedal for Ribbon crasher. Sometimes I switch from Axis to Elims for a week or so and they just give you so much more power! Axis are light, but that's not to say you couldn't go as fast with Elims.
Compared to Axis, Elims will certainly feel more "normal" (like other pedals out there, Axis are light) and are probably easier to get used to. Anyone who says you can't go fast with Elims should go listen to "The Scepter of the Ancients" or "Occasus" because Dave slayed on those albums with Elims.
From personal experience, having used Axis and Eliminators I can say both are good pedals, it's personal preference and in the end, it's YOU who's playing those notes, not the pedals. A lot of kids seem to forget that and just go for Axis because they think the pedals will make their feet fly. Also, now that the Axis hype has been going on for years, there are actually guys switching back from Axis to say Elims, because of power and control. It's all about the control!

That's one thing I can't stand about teh Iron Cobras. They weigh as much as my car.
But seriously, there are tons of great pedals out there, but Axis are use by more DM drummers than any other pedal (I'm pretty sure) They are sooooo tweakable, you get them feeling just right. Everything from Pedal response, stroke depth, beater angle, you name it.

The belt is quieter, smoother and weaker. You might bust a strap every now and then but if you've got spares a strap change shouldn't take more than 5 min tops. I haven't used a belt drive in years so maybe nowadays the straps are tougher. Try both, you'll know what to get after that.
Ditto on the IC's feeling way too heavy. That's what I've been using for 6 or 7 years. Now the linkage is dead. :emot-shak
