Ok, imagine a chapman stick. Now get rid of the strings, so essencially you only have the neck. Where the strings were, have a grid system of "tapping buttons" that would take the place of the strings. It'd be a flat, iPhone like neck with touch buttons. Where each string would be there'd be a button, and you'd tap it, and it'd play that note. So it's kind of like a digital, LCD/touch chapman stick. whatever.

It'd be custom, of course, but:
5-string bass
Gibson Explorer body
24 frets
Active EMG HZs
BadAss II bridge
Fender Lake Placid blue
I guess that'd be it. I'd put some Rotosound Swing Bass 66s on it. I'd be set.

Ok probably exactly what I´ve been dreaming of for years, THE EXPLORER shape. BUT though my choice were to be a 4-stringer with active EMG HB, sweet ass tuners and it would have to be natural or something like that. The headstock would probably be a pointy thingy.
Shit, it would be sizzling!!
but un-custom made for me it would be a Modulus Quantum 5. Sick basses.

I would hate a 7 string bass. I had a 6 string and I just don't have the fingers for it. A 3" wide neck is already big enough...... Some of those basses look fake they are so crazy.
Dr, B1ll, those do exist minus the touchscreen, it's called a keyboard. lol I like the idea of the different key layout though. If you were used to that system it would be very cool.

Portnoy's new kit looks cool but the setup makes my head hurt. And not in a good way either. Why would someone set up a kit to need two (or ever how many) thrones? Maybe I just don't get it. I could arrange all of that stuff to be reachable from one throne. I guess it wouldn't look as cool from the crowd though. Getting up and changing thrones in the middle of a song doesn't hinder anything no......use a fucking cable hi hat for christs sake. Sorry, that setup bothered me the first time I saw it and it just gets worse every time I see it. I guess some people feel the same way about my setup though.
Anyway, the white bubinga kit is where it's at. Screw marigold sparkle :puke:

I wish I'd live in the US when it comes to instruments. You can snag a used Kubicki there, for anywhere between 800-1200$

Hands down, one of the best guitars I have ever played... it could also have something to do with it being cranked through the new EVH 5150 iii... but thats another story.
Now if I could get a maple neck through, with no inlays and mahogany OR alder bodied MII with Dimarzio's (EVO 2 bridge and Al Di Meola neck) coil tapped, with a concentric pot with seperate pickup volumes and one master volume... and a floyd rose, gotoh tuners and black hardware. In an Olympic White finish...
that would be my dream instrument I reckon.

If you're talking to me, I don't need the 24 frets, personally. I'm thinking a Music Man hummer for punch (at least that's what I've always heard about them).
I thought about the individual string bridges, but it ended up looking too "modern" for my tastes. Went with the big brass bridge instead. :)
Found the body and neck on Warmoth...the damned neck is $600 by itself, but aside from that, it would be a pretty reasonable build.

Conklin's have already been mentioned, but this is a beautiful guitar. I wish I had the money and the patience to get a 7 string custom built.

Edit: I found a pic that showed the headstock and that would have to go. I love the fretboard on this thing.

Judging by the link I would guess that it's a Ran Guitar.

a real kubicki?
Yeah, built in July 2001.
He stated its a custom, but ex-factors in general dont have much differences even if they are custom made. Mostly wood options. (atleast from what I've understood)
I should have two basses coming from overseas next week :emot-eek:
Pics then :yel1:
congrats =]

Yeah, the headstock is god ugly, but being that Ran is a custom company, you could easily get it built without that. I plan on getting a Ran built once I save up about 3 grand.

How long do you reckon that will take you? and what style/what are you going to have on/with it? I hear the waiting time is horrendous... can't see myself waiting that long for a guitar... but will eventually have to, probably.

i'd like that ran i posted a couple pages ago. but i dont think i'd like to drop any amount of money and have to wait 10-12 months for it.

Probably take me about a year and a half considering I work for minimum wage and have to still buy new shocks for my car. Oh well, I think it would be worth the wait. I mean, if it's the exact guitar of your dreams, I don't think a year's wait would be all that bad.
And the waiting list still isn't as bad as Jacksons. I know a guy that waited 17 months to get a custom Soloist.

2,000 for his most stripped down 4 string. 8,000+ depending on what you get.

what happened with the X factor?
I sent the electronics today back to Phil for a full maintenance, I got to play for a sweet 30mins before they stopped working for some reason.
Once I'll scrape down enough for my next bass, I'll probably head for something along the lines of:
