i know how much everyone loves n00bs posting threads, but does anyone play classical guitar?
I dabble, I in no way consider myself classically trained and I've never had lessons, but classical guitar has always intrigued and fascinated me and I try to take my guitar playing in all directions, so it's good to pick up a few things here and there - I'll go to www.classtab.org, pick a random tab, and try to play it at a speed at which i'm comfortable :)
Opeth songs actually have some nice fingerstyle sections that serve as a great introductory to classical guitar...

I took some classical lessons a few years back and for a while there I was playing that style all the time. My nylon string met its death at a party and I never bothered to buy another one. I still remember all the cool songs I learned.
If you like Dissection, "Into Infinite Obscurity" & "Feathers Fell" are 2 cool songs to learn. They are not very difficult at all.

I used to do a lot of classical work, but I stoped and focused everything to death metal and jazz.
anyway a good song to mess with is Randy Rhoad's de.

I dabble as well. It`s really fucking different. I learned some argentinian song I found on powertabs.net. Greensleeves, Bach`s-air, Beethovens Moonlight sonata(beginning) is really good to develop finger picking which I could not do until this year. I really want to learn Bach`s Chaccone from paritia no.2. Check out Segovia rippin that one if you have the chance.

Haha same here , that site is great. But trying to actually play at the original speed of some songs is crazy. classical guitarists have some insane skills , no doubt about it.

yah the playing is a shitload different. metal = mute every note after you play it.. classical = ring out almost everything. but ya, segovia DID popularize the guitar, but in comparison to today's players he is only above average. this song is pretty intense, ive got it down decently, but not near this guy http://youtube.com/watch?v=5oqZ-17m-qU

If you play to a click, you soon realize that there aren`t limits with the instrument. I mean I`m no master or anything but it just changes your outlook.

Not in the least! Although I've tried fucking around with some of Randy Rhoads' stuff along with Christopher Parkening's version of Leyenda (he's one of the most respected classical guitarists of all time for a reason, HE FUCKING SHREDS).

yes, parkening is a very good player. not because he is good at leyenda though; that piece is a lot easier than the speed portrays. i suppose its like the pentatonic scale of classical

Yeah most of it's not too hard I guess, but there's this bit where he seems to anchor the high E string and play triplets between the low note, open B and the high E, kinda like this:
E -----7-----7------7------7-----7------7-
B ---0-----0------0------0-----0------0---
G -----------------------------------------
D -------9-----10-----7-----9-------------
A -7-------------------------------10-----
E ----------------------------------------
which makes it just that much more difficult to play, especially at that speed.
that's not too bad... it's a bit like a pedal-tone lick

well ya, the triplets are what everyone orgasms over... but i mean, this still isnt nearly as difficult as everyone claims it to be. the problem most people have is that they get the rythm all off so they play 32 notes instead of 16th note triplets, so the rythm ends up being 0-000-000-000-000, instead of being 000000000000000, which is wanted of course. but i mean, i had this piece mastered in 2 weeks and im only 17, so how hard could it be?

No one cares about how old you are, how fast you learned it, we're not going to suck your dick for it, and learn how to spell "rhythm".

Yeah that tremolo shit is hard. I can`t do it. Never really tried or practiced. I`ve almost got the fingerpicking part from veil of maya down. Thats all the fingerstyle i`m practicing now.
That part is fun :). Veil of Maya is probably the least stressful of all the Cynic songs to play, really... although Celestial Voyage has an easier solo.

of course you assume im being cocky... what would be incentive for wanting people to know that?
i doubt you're cocky, more like insecure and wanting everyone to shower you with attention for your supposed talent you've achieved at a relatively young age (17 isn't that young, anyways) - otherwise you wouldn't have used the word "only" before saying "17".

or i was trying to prove how easy the song is?

how hard can it be? well gee everyone is different and practice differently, just cause youre young and learn fast doesnt mean everyone else can :emot-roll
exactly... as a musician, as a rule of thumb, avoid making comparisons to yourself in regards to ability when it comes to a piece or other musicians, if you don't want to risk rubbing anyone the wrong way... it's all a part of being a humble musician.

ya, you've got a point... it was a fair assumption on your part, being that the musical world is full of people who love sharing how great they are.

are you planning on learning from Eliot Fisk? im pretty sure that was Segovia's most prided student. but ya, aside from the common HE PLAYS SLOPPY from douche bags who want to hear computers play it, Segovia did more for the guitar than anyone ever. not to mention he plays more passionately than ive ever heard

I forgot the guys name. I just know there is a guy who studied under him teaching at UT Austin.
*EDIT* ah nevermind, I got it all fucked up. there's a guy who studied under Eliot Fisk at UT, who of course studied with Andre. either way, I'm pumped.

ya fisk is awesome. everyone hates him because he plays so wildly and with excessive rubato, but its so crazy watching him perform. but someone who learned under him will be solid...
