Would you guys want a seperate forum for musical discussion, like tabs and theory and whatever you like talking about? And this one can just be general music discussion/random shit.

Can run it completely yourselves/make it invite only or something. Would prob solve some of the unhapiness. Plus I'd have no desire to even read it.

Think about it. Let me know.

If yes, post who you think should run it.

Transient

no, as it is now everyone who is in a dm band tends to post links to their stuff here, and everyone who is in a shitty emo/hardcore/post hardcore bull shit band posts their links on btbam or general.

id never check a musicians forum unless something interesting came up on search, but i look into almost every thread posted here even from no-name posters

I'm for it. Give me all the power!!!!

I'm taking some theory classes now and would love to talk to others about it but I have a feeling most musicians here don't even know theory. I know Erlend does, but he's too busy playing in bands and recording to be bothered. We could move the tabs sticky over there too.

BZM seems to know a shitload of theory as well so it would be cool to talk to him about all that. Maybe we could post clips of us experimenting with different chord progressions and techniques, etc. I have a strange feeling no one cares though.

I say no. I'd rather us talk about those kinds of things here all in one place. If you have too many separate forums for specific topics where to post what can become kind of ambiguous.

"I'd normally post this HERE where I know people I talk with will read it and see it, but because there is a separate forum I should probably post it there instead.. for the sake of it."

Meh

I think it would be cool, we'd probably have more musician talk there than we do here just because that's what it would be designed for, I love talking gear and what not... There's lots of cool stuff to talk about that I don't think to post here because I don't see it as primarily a musicians board... I'll mod it or whatever too, no problem.

I'd really like to see a musicians forum on here where one can talk about theory, gear, etc. I'd check it out all the time as it interests me far more than most of the threads in the Death Metal Discussion forum - especially as of late. Plus it might attract people from other forums on here that don't typically hit the Death Metal Discussion forum. As for mod(s), I have no preference I guess.

If it has sub forums such as theory, guitar, bass, drum, etc. then I'll vote yes. And if tabs are going to be talked about, there might as well be a tab sub forum people could search easily.

dead_and_dripping
11-03-2007, 10:01 AM
A couple of sub-forums sounds alright, maybe one for gear/equipment and one for tabs/theory, then the main part can be left for music and random crap.

F0RBIDDEN
11-03-2007, 10:55 AM
I think just making a separate musicians forum and leaving it open ended would be fine... I find whenever a forum has subforums, I never check all of the subforums and most of them go neglected as everyone uses the main discussion area for everything anyways... If we just had a Musician's Forum where you could talk about anything musician related, I think it would be fine and see a lot more activity than a board that had a subforum for "Riffs that start on the E string", "Riffs that start on the G string", "Major 4 string Arpeggios", "Minor 6 string Arpeggios", "Tube amps made in Germany", "Solid State amps made in Japan", "Guitars with reverse headstocks, flame maple tops and 1 humbucker with a Floyd Rose", etc. etc. etc.

Johnny-Skinless

In my opinion forums with multiple subforums = disaster. In order for a forum to work well it has to be simple and eficiently structured

Hear that yeah, the theory side of it wouldn't interest me either - how about just skip over threads about theory and look at gear threads... could work.
There will probably be threads on guitar & drumming techniques too, aside from theory.

Someone else who's interested in typing up theory could handle that I guess.

As for name, hmm.... "Gear Discussion" ... or something, whatever.
Same colours, ok.
Invite only: i'd say no at the moment - but it should be heavily moderated to only allow threads which are relevant to the forum.

Yeah, once the forum is created, there should be a sticky at the top that says something like Forum Rules, Read This First, listing the rules so there isn't a bunch of general discussion going on.

Another suggestion, maybe make the Musician's forum a sub-forum of this forum instead of in the General Music Discussion section? I know it doesn't really make sense, but I think more people will check it out if it's linked directly at the top of this forum, since I'm guessing most guys don't actually use the forum list and just have this actual forum bookmarked or whatever....
