Do you record most of everything "live"? What type of amps are used? Are the mics placed right on the amp?

we record one instrument at a time. during drum tracking sometimes we do a scratch guitar/warr track, sometimes a click track, and on the new album, mostly the drums were played along to the MIDI files... and then the strings overdubbed.
all the guitar is a 5150 into a mesa 4x12. the bass side of the warr is running through a Hartke 3500 into an eden 4x10 in parallel with a roland JC 120. the guitar side is sometimes through the bass rig and sometimes through the guitar rig. all amps were close mic'ed and distantly mic'ed from across the room. I also mic'ed the HF horn on the bass cab.
