'synth' washes?

how do you guys do the synth pad-sounding bits? (Exospacial Psionic Aura, Some Mist, and Transient Exuberance come to mind) they seemed pretty faithful to the record when done live, so I'm assuming it's just a combination of clever reverb/delay settings and chord voicings.

yeah it's pretty much just reverb and/or delay with volume swells sometimes
