It's their "best" so far, but still pretty eh. Nothing original, and when they finally get semi-interesting, the awful singer starts up again.

I really like BTBAM and I'm enjoying this new one. It's like one long track broken into 8 parts. If you enjoyed any of Alaska you should enjoy this one, probably more so.
Almost done, then I'm starting the Aeon.

How is this album? I personally got bored with repeated listenings to Bleeding the False, so I'm not sure if this album will be like that as well.

Aeon CD in 8 easy steps
1. Get Plane tickets to Sweden.
2. Get on Plane and enjoy flight; eat complimentary peanuts.
3. Get the fuck off the plane.
4. Look up Tommy Dahlström's address.
5. Knock on his door and hop into the bushes, he likes surprises.
6. He comes to the door in a baby skin bathrobe, blessed by Satan, and he'll look around and say "DOORKNOCKER WHY DO YOU HIDE FROM ME?!"
7. That's your chance to kick him in the knickers and be like "All you have to do is to give me your CD! Your glorious CD! Your Beautiful CD!"
8. Then he'll be like, "Eh, sure why not."

Listening to the new Aeon now and it's excellent. To me this is the way death metal should be. No slams, no trends just pure fucking death metal.

This thing has nothing to do with "Alaska", which by all rights was a failure of some note. I've been spinning "Colors" constantly since I got it, it's one of the most amazing things I've heard all year. Anyone who isn't dead-set on listening only to deathmetal should give this thing a whirl, there's SO much stuff going on. And contrary to their "Alaska" performance, none of it sounds copy/pasted and/or pretentious. Their singer upped his performance a lot as well, AND they finally got a good production on everything. There's definitely some amazing song writing going on on this record.
CC, try not listening to individual tracks but the whole CD as "one song", however faggy that comes off. Nothing sounds out of context there, and IMO it enhances the overall experience.

Agreed. I was saying that for people who weren't really fans of the band and unsure about them. BTBAM has been one of my fav bands since the demo, loved Prayer For Cleansing before them. Colors is their most complete album IMO. I've listened to it twice so far so it hasn't absorbed completely yet, but I'm in love already. Also, I don't get the hate for Alaska. That album has awesome songs and amazing riffs.

I was let down hugely by Alaska. The riffing seemed bland and forced much of the time, and every 'ecclectic' idea thrown in there was more or less a straight rip-off of their influences. Way too obvious and conspicuous. This is not the case on "Colors". Besides, I loved "The Silent Circus" a great deal which overall was way more cohesive than "Alaska".
Anyway, this Aeon album: it fucking rules!!! I think it's better than "Bleeding The False", and I've only listened to it once. Jesus, man, the production they got this time around is even better.

"If you enjoyed Alaska you'll enjoy this one."
There are lots of parts that so sound like Alaska, and even a part that sounded like a section of Selkies. I've only listened to it through once, though. This album is much more varied than Alaska.

Yeah it is. It's more "progressive" (for them) then previous releases. I'm really enjoying this and the new Aeon. They both need to be out on CD now.

I think maybe I'm just bored with Death Metal right now, but the new Aeon did nothing for me; it's almost sterile, and predictable. In fact, I believe the new BTBAM did more for me than a lot of death metal has been doing for me here lately. The new BTBAM is incredible, at moments even like Floyd.

Colors is a surprisingly good album...I thought Alaska was fucking abominable so I didn't have very high hopes for Colors...Now that Colors has leaked, Alaska just seems like the most pointless album on the planet haha. There are a few parts on Colors that I could do without, that don't necessarily make the album any better and just seem like feeble attempts to diversify the sound. But all in all, it's a wonderful album and is pretty much what I think that lineup was set on accomplishing from the beginning.

d/l "Colors" now. I hope it's as good as people are saying it is cause I haven't been a fan since "The Silent Circus"... Like everyone else I thought "Alaska" was a huge letdown and just stopped paying attention to them.
*edit* listening now...haha, this shit is soooo much better than "Alaska"... a lot of "Colors" reminds me of Faith No More "Angel Dust" era. Pretty excited about this new CD now.

There's parts that remind me of FNM, Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, and King Crimson. Pretty eclectic mix.

This is a nice cocktail of Deicide-once upon the cross-style vocals and some CC and morbid angel influences...and some of the most stupid lyrics i ve heard...but otherwise its a kickass album; so aggressive.

I don't hear too much Floyd to be honest, I hear some Beatles though for sure. I guess it can go either way since Floyd was heavily influnced by The Beatles. There's one track on "Colors" I could do without but the rest is pretty good.
About the new Aeon.. shit put me to sleep 3-4 songs in. I couldn't get through the whole thing and have been bored with anything they've done since the Dark Order EP.

That's what it all feels like to me. For every good moment there is a cringe-inducing "why?" moment. It cancels itself out when there isn't any context. It feels like the song is constantly starting and never finding its middle or end. There isn't a buildup and there most certainly isn't any resolve; a "pay off". I suppose this could be on purpose, which would be so PoMo that I could puke. If it isn't, then they just don't know how to write like I know they want to.
That being said, hats off to any band that has the balls to write a polka section into their music.

Yeah...I think it's a good move to satisfy newer fans of their music, with the spontaneity and such, but it just has no flow or substance at all...and it's hard to take an album seriously when there's a fucking bluegrass section seemingly ctrl+v'd into the middle of a song, haha.
