Hello. I have been looking at the tabs that have been posted and I got some Questions about Jacob's basslines. Does he match everything the guitar does? In the tabs there are 32nd notes at 135 bpm witch would seem impossible for a bass player to do with fingers. So in cases like that did he do triplets or half the value?
Thanks!

32nds at 135 bpm? isn't that pretty close to 16ths at around 250 bpm? I don't know the formula to figure that out (someone tell me!! haha) but that seems impossible unless played with a pick. the guy has some faaaaast fingers if he can do it though.

that would be 16ths at 270 bpm math master! ehe. I know erlend can do those speeds on bass. I wonder if the bassist to disgorge matches the guitar too cant really tell on there recordings aha.

He plays half of it, I think. He´s starting to work on 3 finger technique now though, and what I heard, he´s pretty fucking fast now.
I never cared much if the bass plays 8ths during speed picking, but hell, if he could play something like the "Addicted To Vaginal Skin" basspart tempo, that would be amazing!!!!!!

16ths at 270 on a bass isnt that difficult...i can play 240 with a soft attack..give me another year i would be able to do that with a hard attack like Erlends.Im sure there are many bassists who could go at 270.Im sure SDG and webster can do that

The fastest SDG bassline I have heard was Out for blood witch had 16ths at 220 bpm. But hey its all good man. I just wanted to know what the bass was doing not bring anyone down on how fast they can play.
Oh and Addicted to Vaginal Skin is 16ths at 210 bpm aha.

With your fingers or with a pick? Either way I say BULLSHIT to that. 270 is WAY fucking difficult. How about you post a video if you can do it or show me a bass player who has done it?

How did you figure that out though?

32nd = twice as fast as a 16th
270bpm = twice as fast as 135bpm
Duh. :wink:

He plays with his fingers. I have to say no way too. Most guitar players cant eve do 250 bpm clean with a pick as we could see in Adam's topic on the DB forum. I would like to see a video or hear a mp3 of you Disincarnate playing at 240 bpm.

Simple math.
If you use 3 or 4 finger technique I'm pretty sure it's not impossible to get to those speeds. Playing with a pick versus playing with 4 fingers is totally different.

Yeah, you can play so much faster with fingers once they're built up like taloned sausages. The problem of course is getting clean, consistent notes. I daresay the controversial speed is quite possible with three fingers. Whether it would sound like it, or good at all is also a different matter.

I remember Webster once posted on the Cannibal forum that he would be interested to get lessons from a bass player that can play 240bpm at 16th with fingers. So 270bpm? No way, unless all four fingers have the same length than it could be possible.

Yea I remember him saying that on the forum. He uses 3 fingers 3212. Hes a super bass player still. His attack on Tomb was amazing. Great bass player. Check this video out if you like Alex http://youtube.com/watch?v=1xIbCEdtWzw Watch his bass overdub at 2:35

This Webster's video is'nt bad too: http://youtube.com/watch?v=QOb6JSQd-Qw&mode=related&search=
I play bass since two years and I am able to play 16ths at 110 (with two fingers, three fingers is no way for the moment). Not enough to play the Defeated Sanity tabs i've seen, but I guess it's possible to play a lot of this stuff with two fingers, since a lot of string-skipping is involved. In any case, I don't think Jacob do the same than the guitar, it's too fast! Maybe he just divides 16ths to 8ths: easier to play, and easier to hear through the others instruments...

That was a funky DVD that came with Wretched Spawn ltd. The Frantic Disembowelment studio clip blew my mind when I first saw it. Such beautiful fret dancing.

Isn't Sean Malone playing only with two fingerstyle (or at least he prefers it)? He has a damn good control and is pretty fast that way, he also plays the Jaco stuff.

Adam Nitti is damn fast as well. Two fingers only.
John Alderete (Racer X) is damn fast as well. Two fingers only.
