[Brogen]

just got back from the cephalic carnage, red chord, btbam show. so here goes...

arise and ruin - generic, stayed for one song - mainly cause i was buying merch.

cephalic carnage - 9/10 - fucking awesome. the one guitarist is definitely on speed. dude was thrashing around like mad while shredding like mad. they played a mix of old and new shit. tunes i remember are dying will be the death of me, lucid interval, endless cycle of violence, divination and volition.

red chord - 9.5/10 - crowd really got into it. people were going pretty insane. mr singer guy shaved his beard. hes pretty sexy for a guy. hehe. i didnt know they had an asian guitar player...hes fucking awesome. played a mix of shit. all the shit you can expect - black santa, nihilist, dreaming in dog years, prey for eyes, dread prevailed, fixation on plastics, and a couple more i believe. near the end of the set, the drummers bass pedal broke, and while they waited for a new one - which took a while - the bass player asked this girl to come up and play bass - after tommy came up and did a duet with gunface, which was awesome - and they played enter sandman which was pretty awesome. and funny.

btbam - 11/10 - absolutely amazing. the new shit was fucking amazing. the set list was:
- foam bath (a) (i believe, it might have been b, i asked blake after the show but i couldnt hear if he said a or b) - amazing start - i was looking forward to this cause when a band starts out with a new song its a pretty confident decision - but i see why, this song was just none stop amazing brutalness with every riff being epic. the beginning had a very s/t vibe to it, which was nice to hear. the rest was really new sounding. maybe sometimes a bit silent circusy, but not in an imitating way. just in the style. this song had the lead the dusty finally nailed in the video - which is really awesome.

- camilla rhodes
- shevanel cut a flip
- sun of nothing - absolutely amazing in every way. my jaw stayed dropped for all 11 minutes of this amazing song. this song had everything. it had like 3 mini drum solos worked in and it just never stopped. it was half death metal and half quieter breaks to get you ready for the next heavy section. there was a polka break - which was fucking awesome. the whole song, just, i cant describe how awesome it was.

- fire for a dry mouth
- selkies

there was supposed to be an encore i believe, but fucking idiots were fighting so they didn't feel like playing an encore. after the show i talked to tommy and blake. both very awesome dudes. i was saying how the drumming on the new songs is amazing to blake and he said this album is the best drumming hes done and how its just non stop. im dying to hear the album now.

oh and paul was thrashing around quite a bit with the new material - whcih was awesome. dusty did a lot of the lead stuff on the new material as well, which was awesome as well. haha.

venue was awesome - very personal experience - got up in the faces of the crowd, tommy did. yeah that was very yoda-esque. fuck off. anyways.

this was the best show ive been too ever. three bands i thoroughly enjoy, all playing flawlessly.

EDIT: i know people will ask, and i can say yes, the show was filmed. i saw i think two different guys filming all the sets. so hopefully new btbam material will surface on youtube.

ohhh hahha. sorry. im totally just not thinking. foam bath sounds good right about now. im sore. haha. im totally in need of the album after the show. overall id say the guitars are fucking nuts. every riff is awesome. iits hard to describe it. think the fast paced techy parts of silent circus mixed with the sludgier riffs of the self titled album. only with a totally new sound behind them. honestly i think this will be their best album. im so hyped for it. the guys i went with were just as euphoric as me haha. after foam BORN haha got it right this time, i looked at my friend and his mouth was wide open and he was just shaking his head.

there were several riffs i recognized in the two new songs. the one riff that paul plays in the studio video that is higher up and has all those single picking with the weird high chords was in foam born as well. (i know thats a terrible description, ill look up the video if you need me to so i can point it out.) as well as some of the other fast paced riffs from the video were mixed in with foam born and sun of nothing.

however, i was pretty fuckin pumped the first time i heard the song Alaska. I was in college blasting it in my house, annoying the shit outta people. the "keep writing, keep dreaming" breakdown was on loop. and then the selkies live video...blew my mind
