Some European bands!
Disavowed, Defeated Sanity!
Some more Cali bands!
Odious Mortem, Decrepit Birth! Bring back Inherit Disease!
I dig all the midwest, and east coast bands but some diversity would be excellent!

Try to get Internal Bleeding to actually play this time! Also Broken Hope is getting back together it would be incredible to see them again! Deprecated is supposed to come back with a new album as well! Next year I think you need to make Von play with DEADEN!!!! Make sure Lividity plays as well though! This time Matt needs to get up there, fuck! I miss old school Lividity lineup!

show diversity (yknow some older bands, newer bands, technical, ultra brutal, more traditional, chunky/gorey, hyperspeed, and some good charming sloppy midpaced drunken stuff), bring in some European bands and show some real ALLEGIANCE to DEATHMETAL and don't be like the MDF guys and pretend like grindCORE = a METALfest.
really...that's all, i think anyone with integrity and a brain could build on a formula that simple.
i think this year was kinda cool in that you'd have a band like Insidious Decrepency next to Cianide (who simply DESTROYED)-variety like that did make it unique!!!

matt, i also wrote it on myspace. but here again! hehe...
again:
Devourment, Gorgasm, Inherit Disease (A MUST!), Dead For Days, Human Artifacts, Embalmer, Malignancy and Foetopsy...
headliner spots maybe:
broken hope, internal bleeding, skinless, deprecated (they will be back), disgorge, massacre
special ones:
eternal suffering (reunion), hidden pride (one last gig)
others:
odious mortem, aversion to life, defeated sanity, despondency, cock and ball torture, retch, revenance, waking the cadaver, despied icon, dying fetus, misery index, mucopus, digested flesh, streetsweeper, condemned, saprogenic, mortal decay, heinous killings, dislimb, victimas, cephalotripsy, inhuman dissilliency, orchidectomy, dehumanized, guttural secrete, ion dissonance, ghoul, splatterhouse, gadget...
haha, but you know me and what we germans want when we come over to the states!!! hehe... only keep this like the last 2 years! in the canopy with only sick bands!

have bands in the works......dates for 2008 CIM will be announced as soon as next week,,,,,and once again will be at the Canopy Club in Urbana,IL....we were 100 people away from a sell out on saterday.......so I'm strongly gonna encourage people to get their tickets in advance for 2008.......Really didn't expect that solid of a turnout and really don't wanna see people get turned away!!!! which 9 out of 10 won't happen...but want people to be prepared...
AS far as lineup goes....alot of bands are being retired for a year or so who have played the CIM numerous times...so alot of new bands and faces who havn't played the fest will be involved...

This is good to hear actually. I've noticed a handful of the same bands every year or so it seems. Congrats on the larger attendance this year as well. Looks like CIM is really getting it's name out there - proof that hard work pays off.

I have actually been swamped with behind the scenes working on the CIM....a very few intresting things on the table and really looking at what I want to do w/ the CIM as its now in its 5th year....one of my MAJOR fears is the Canopy Club just isn't big enough anymore.....and with a 85% jump in attendence in 07...we seriously could run into problems with just not enough room for bands, vendors and fans...plus growing as a festival....NO worries...we arn't gonna sell out....but we feel its time to maybe make a run for the title so to speak....and 2008 might be the year the CIM takes over as the most major metalfest in the United States....
OR
Just be at Canopy and still crush.....I just encourage if we do have it at the CC for a 5th year...GET YOUR TICKETS IN ADVANCE OR RISK A SELL OUT AND NOT GETTING ONE!!!!
more news as soon as i can give it.....Hailz...your thoughts and Opinions matter...so keep them coming!

How big is that club?
Over crowded shows = lame.
The Human Artifact
08-25-2007, 11:36 AM
club holds around 1100 BUT with vendor tables and not counting hundred or so extra band members..alot of space is taken up....organized and smooth...but.defenitly a concern YET 2007 wasn't so crowed that people couldn't have fun......plus club has AC..so that helps as far as heat....just have very solid offer to take CIM to the next level....which is leaps and bounds more then most fests....just a HUGE amount of work....but the fans are worth it to give them a great party...plus really wanna get all ages for the kids to not be left out....we'll just have to wait and see...have 5 bands confirmed for 08...defenitly solid and sick so far...
Crucified Coma
08-25-2007, 11:39 AM
That sounds awesome. I'd say go for it. The U.S. needs more big underground metal fests. I'm sure having it be all ages would help draw a lot more too.
The Human Artifact
08-25-2007, 11:46 AM
yea....its hard call.....I'd like to branch out minorly on 2 or 3 bands on the bill to mix up the show.....BUT NOT IN A SELL OUT FASHION(why i gotta make sure i state that is beyond me..hahahahaha)
plus if you mix it up minorly you get larger crowds WHICH give the bands i am partial too(Brutal Death Metal) to play in front of crowds in the thousands rather then a few hundred and really brings the scene to the masses....plus wanna create the fair atompshere with mutiple food options, some fun stuff like machanical bull riding or indoor rock climbing...ALL while keeping the ticket prices around the same as 2007....make it a really experience...plus clinics from musicians teaching how they drum or play riffs on the axe...all just ideas...but I wanna give people their money's worth and really a showcase to see some killer bands on a professional level....
The Human Artifact
08-25-2007, 11:48 AM
my main issue is I'm open to some bands...BUt NOT open to adding metalcore or the new breed of bands such as shadow's fall or that stuff...not into it and think you can still be LARGER and grow with out selling your soul to the dollar!!! But I am open to some thrash, old school hardcore in small amounts to mix it up plus a gore grind band or 2 PLUS more overseas acts....I hope people will appericate what I am trying to do if I decide to go this route...if it goes as I plan....I think people are gonna have a BLAST and be blown away by the professionalism of the show why still showcasing tons of killer underground acts..PLUS will give the options for younger bands not normally considered for the bill to possiblly get on the show and shine...
Crucified Coma
08-25-2007, 11:51 AM
I think there's a couple bigger bands you could book that would draw a ton more kids, but wouldn't be too much of a "sell out." Someone like The Black Dahlia Murder or something.
Also, making the lineup a little more diverse, instead of mainly just "brutal" death metal. Have a few grindcore or Razorback style dm bands to mix it up a little.
Another big thing would be trying to bring over some foreign bands. Probably the main reason MDF has been sucessful is because they bring over a lot of bands you wouldn't normally see here.

Hey Matt
This was our first CIM and I have to say it was one of the best fests I've ever been to and part of that was down to the Canopy Club as a venue - it had a great sound, good size stage, excellent range of booze and food - everything you needed for a fest. When we first saw it the night before the fest we were worried about the seating bits but they worked really well with the stalls there. I would hate to see it move somewhere much bigger - but then if thats what you feel the fest must do to grow I suppose thats what you must do. I never felt like it was too crowded the whole weekend - think a lot of that was to do with people hanging out smoking - even when the main headliners were on there was room to move and get in and out of the venue to the bar/toilets etc.
We're definately planning on making the trip over from the UK to be there again!!
As for bands I'd like to see there - would love to see Mortician again (solely cuz they rarely come to the UK anymore and aren't likely to in the near future!) and Nunslaughter would be fantastic and something different! I thought the line up this year was great so I dont think you need me to tell you who to put on though
looking forward to hearing the bands you've got confirmed and the dates!

Thanks for your comment...appericate hearing input...I agree...alot of solid things about the Canopy Club as a whole....BUT if we were to move would be the same staff in charge of the bar and food etc....so still be the cool atmosphere......all I am in now is in talks....will make decision based on keeping true to the ORginal Format...if i can be larger while pull that off...for sure...really main issue w/ club i am at now is just size all in all...I really can't get much larger bands due to selling the place out and cutting vendors...but be assured be killer regardless...as of now plans are to be at CC...BUT won't 100% confirm the date till I look into all options....glad you had a great time...hailz!!!

I guess that is always my question when considering travelling into your fest or any fest for that matter. How easy is it to get to especially from the airport?.
I assume that one can fly into Chicago and connect to the airport near the fest? If so, that makes things alot easier as I personally don't feel like flying a few hours ago and renting a car to get to the fest. Driving is cool if one lives in the midwest and is one of the neighboring states to Illinois but not so if one is coming from another part of the country or from overseas.
As for your lineup, I would say alittle more variety in styles of death metal but I don't know if I would change it up too much. Obviously, I also love goregrind and grind metal but if you start getting too similar to MDF, I definitely wouldn't hold your fest as close time wise to when MDF is held. Most people won't be able to save up enough money to attend both.
I think that is the same issue I have with the brand new goregonmetalfest as well. All fests grouped together in May and June and the fests won't have as many long distance travellors.

thinking seriously about this next year after hearing good things in the last couple of years from people that have gone, added to the fact next years MDF looks pretty bland.
Been wanting to go back to Ill-noise for sometime now.
As for bands, Im guessing your budget might not stretch that far but some Euro suggestions for you (completely disregarding any announcements you might have made):
Mumakil (http://www.myspace.com/mumakil)
Degrade (http://www.degrade.se)
Hour Of Penance (http://www.hourofpenance.net) - newest (?) Unique Leader signings and a worthwhile addition I'd say. Distinctly fucking brutal live but in a far more rounded, more entertaining way than say Internal Suffering.
Carcass, non?

too many grind bands spoil the broth.
Yeah there's lots of good-great grind bands out there, just that there inter-band similarities are far more noticeable than those in brutal death circles.
Having a variety of sounding bands - regardless of their assigned genre - will infinately be better than having 'x' European band flown in just to satisfy 3 people who bum them and for the promotors to smile smugly at their pockets being deep enough to do so.
