What is your normal, daily practice routine? I need and want to get myseld playing a lot more this summer than I usually do. I'm learning Necrophagist's Epitaph and that's helping a bit but how can I get and keep my chops going? Also, how long do you guys usually play a day?

When I pick up my guitar, I warm up by alternate picking familiar riffs. I usually use a metronome for this, as well. After about twenty minutes, my right hand becomes a picking monster for doubles and triplets.
I usually play though my bands songs, then some Death riffs to keep it interesting. I usually learn songs like crazy, but I've slowed down recently.

I practice my sweep picking for about 6-7 hours and then I just fuck around on some chords and shit. Really though, sweep picking is the only thing a guitar player needs to be able to do.

It's sad, but I only practice about once a week on my own. That usually lasts for an hour or two.
Aside from that, I rehearse with my band twice a week, about 2 hours each time.
Usually when I am playing, it's my own tunes. Occasionally I will play some Death (Symbolic, The Sound of Perseverance), or Deicide (Legion) riffs. Whenever I try to learn some newer stuff, like Spawn or Decrepit Birth, it isn't too hard. But I don't bother to learn full songs, only riffs I really like. If I ever run into something that I can't play, I'll stick to it until I get it.

I don't have anywhere near as much time as I used to, but what I'd used to do is just get some CD's and just play them all the way through, enough to last me 3-4 hours. Right now I'm working on trying to get my right hand back into shape (especially downpicking), so stuff like Kreator, early Sepultura and earlier Anthrax is good for that sort of thing. I don't really concentrate that much on lead playing, though I should because my left hand is slow to the point where I'm trying to keep up with guys like Marty Friedman and am driven to the point where I'm about to smash my guitar.

Same deal exactly, it's lame, but whatever. Too tired from work all the time, yadda yadda, sucks. But sometimes I get into serious guitar mode and my chops come up really fast, like when I was rehearsing for my Neuraxis and DB auditions. I have a playlist of tunes that I play through to warm up that lasts about an hour and after that I either just jam out or try and learn something new, always practicing songs though, never excercises or scales really, I want to have fun when I play guitar...

Exactly dude lol. I fucking suck at "playing the guitar the right way" ie using the correct picking techniques and such. I just down pick 90% of the time and I think it still sounds just as good as alternate picking. My friend is a whore about alternate picking and always gives me shit about it, but I learn songs in 5 minutes rather than two weeks because I focus on the riffs and not the technique.

I used to think the same way. I would always just downpick, downpick, downpick every single song or riff because it would sound alot smoother and thick....BUT, i started to realize that it's completely illogical to just downpick. I started alternate picking EVERYTHING, at first it would seem my playing took a step backwards but after about 4 months I improved by 400% and my right hand turned into a fucking alternate picking beast from hell.

I began seriously alternate picking, and I definitely agree about the whole "taking my playing a step backwards" thing. It feels like I can't even play guitar at some points, and is very frustrating. I still down pick the majority of my shit, but I incorporate alternate picking for quicker riffs and leads.
