..i was a bit disappointed at first, couldn't dig the single "You Got Yr Cherry Bomb" but this album is fantastic. If you're listening for the first time, you may want to start on track 4 for undeniable hotness the rest of the way through, and then go back for 2 and 3 later which aren't so easy to digest. I love this album and have listened to it every day since it leaked a month ago.

Yeah, he was the lead singer/guitarist/songwriter from Failure. It's kind of hard to describe the album, but if you liked Failure you'll definitely like it. There's a lot of really good songs on it, especially Write Your Story.

Defeated Sanity - "Psalms Of The Moribund" for me so far. It's simply nothing short of a revolution of the brutal death metal genre.

But there's still oncoming releases, so we'll see. Decrepit Birth is a strong contender. Porcupine Tree are damn close as well.

You don't listen to enough brutal deathmetal then.

Never, EVER before has brutal DM been graced with such organic song writing, or such fluent musicianship and especially drumming. It takes the genre to a completely different level!

Try listening to the last few Deeds of Flesh albums. Or Inveracity, for that matter. Can you tell them apart? Hardly. It's the same formula, and while I DO love them, I must admit that I can definitely understand why people don't; it's more of an aesthetic appreciation than one of distinctive quality.

But with Defeated Sanity, not so. Lille Gruber is something of a musical genius, he both playes guitar and drums at a completely bizarre level of skill. You can never quite tell what's around the corner on "Psalms Of The Moribund", and it's stock-piled with little brilliant intricacies - something definitely not the case for the rest of the genre.

If you sit through the entire album and focus on just the drumming, you're in for one hell of a ride. Lille can blast with the best of them, but his real quality is in his almost jazzy fill and cymbal work imo. Oh, and also his stuff on the snare. He uses rimshots so creatively, it sounds like he has two different snares to hit on! The man's a fucking legend!

Let it be said that Defeated Sanity isn't for everyone. If you're not hardcore on the brutal DM aesthetic, then DS is not for you. Hell, if you DO like brutal DM but aren't particularly prone to complex music, DS probably won't be for you either. They've taken the genre so far on this record, it's unbelievable.
