Look who's number two on the top friends.
From his comments:
"Hey Gil!
....got some good news for ya *wink wink* just got a message back from a certain band...get a hold of me, LOL, take care man!...Best of luck with the remaining dates, BTW, what you guys think of the disc?

oh well, officially rip Pennie.
I lowered my expectations now.:emot-fail
now i feel they didn't played with us, they just wanted to keep it low while still informing those who really care. They're hyping the heck of the cd they're working on, they don't want the bad news to spread like wild fire.

I'd really like to get some word from Pennie or DEP about what the real deal is with this situation. What possible reason would Pennie have for leaving TDEP for Coheed?

A change in style, new territory, new creative direction overall, full commitment to Coheed.
I mean, he's been in DEP for ten years?
I wouldn't be too surprised.

i'm pretty optimistic about this, even though Pennie was an awesome part of Dillinger, now Coheed has a better drummer so it's sort of a win-win situation since Gil is so fuckin' nastay.

I couldn't give a shit about Coheed, 'cause they suck.
As far as this dude Gil Sharone goes, what I am pleased and intrigued with most about him is that he is not a "metal" drummer. He is versatile and talented as fuck. And DEP do not consider themselves a metal band, tech-metal band, math-metal band, metalcore band, or anthing of the type. They consider themselves an intense band and they go from there. Sharone will do fine.

Indeed. I'm not worried at all.
Me either - this guy is pennie's equal imho, except they're polar opposites in many ways - as Ian mentioned earlier, Pennie is from far more a jazz background, whereas this Gil guy has his roots much more in funk and reggae. SICK CHOPS THOUGH

Have you guys considered that maybe Gil Sharone might be filling in for Pennie in Coheed (as far as touring and everything)? If anything, THAT would seem more likely.

possibly, but I highly doubt because if they are in fact recording with Gil, he is the new DEP drummer, if Pennie was still in the band he wouldn't be missing the session.

He would be if he was busy with Coheed.

They would not record without Chris if he was still in the band. It's not like he has a damaged hand.

I think they're a good enough band to record all of the other instruments before drums; besides he's a huge part of the band. Everything everyone has said that "proves" he's out is all based on speculation. The band hasn't said anything, Chris hasn't said anything, there is no proof that he's left and Dillinger is loving the turmoil that you guys are going through. I will not accept that he's left until I receive some sort of actual press announcement from the band, that's the least I would I expect for one of the founding members of the band to leave.

Yeah; what you can do to counteract not having a drummer is just record out scratch tracks, program drums and use that for your clicktrack. It's not that hard, and I'm pretty sure if I can do it, Dillinger can too.

The funk and reggae would be fun, but i sure hope they won't cut the jazz back.

No way would DEP stop integrating jazz into their music. They wouldn't be DEP w/o it.

But i mean, in the drums, especially. Maybe the guy's not too found on it, the others can surely define his job, but in the end he will be the one composing.
Btw, do you think they will use Pennie's compos? I sure hope, but again it could be interesting to see what the new dude can make before the next album.

I don't know, but regardless I think Gil (if he's in) will write jazz based music. It's not like Ben is gonna write a jazz riff and then Gil would write reggae. Obviously that wouldn't work too well, imo.

I can see this being a possibility, but I was looking around on youtube and I was watching an interview where they said they really wanted to be prolific with their music, which might mean more stuff will be released. I'd rather see them go off on a high note then anything else.
