might as well just grab the bull by the balls and ask this...

what in all likelihood is the chance of the Surgeons making to the stinkin rock in the North Sea (known by the name Britain)?

Couldn't afford to get to MDF and my bastard sister is getting married on the middle day of OEF stoppin me being able to witness what is probably the best OEF lineup i've read so far.

Plus i think i know a few people who would literally cream themselves if they saw GS live...

myself included ;)

As I always say; we're there as soon as somebody makes us a decent offer. So, right now, I don't know. I just know we want to come over for a few shows, as I know there's a demand for us over there.

Well, I got word a couple of days ago that a US tour may happen for us later in the year or some time next year... it's just an invitation though, we'll see what happens. Would be awesome.

Also, we're gonna try to make a lot more shows happen after we release the next album, I'd love to tour on the back of a release for once and just not go out to do these random shows.

It's good to hear that, but how about Europe? Can you give any information about that?

Dr Carlsson

Nothing in Europe going on right now aside from the OEF... I don't think we'll get any offers right now either, it's a bit too late since the album has been out for so long already. Hope to get some weekend shows in the fall though.

A tour with Victims (they are recently touring) would be nice as well, or Splatterhouse.

Dr Carlsson

Don't think we could afford the cost of bringing over a band from overseas.. but it would be pretty rockin' to get a support slot on a bigger tour, like Immolation or something.

Why not? We are a death metal band, if you didn't know that. Well, death/grind should be the proper tag, I guess. Pretty fucking far from grindcore, though.

Would depend on the band. GS and someone like Dismember would be perfect I think.

Dr Carlsson

Still remember the almost empty punk/HC squats we played on the 2004 tour, those we're a real testament to our popularity amongst that scene. When we played with DM bands at proper clubs = full house.

I can play with any type of band as long as it's extreme in some sort of fashion though, but generally people aren't too welcoming when it's a mixed bill. Shame.

I'm sure we alienate them with our lyrics about death and gore and other such non-death metal things. Not to mention our parodies of death metal riffs, prevalent in every single song we've written.

I jest. However, as pointed out, we are closer to death metal than grindcore and most people seem to think that.

Thank you sir. Myself, I never got the point of the "brutal" style. Just a pile of technical riffs stacked on top of eachother, no recurring parts and too fast drumming, no hooks whatsoever. I don't know, I'm probably too old but whatever floats your boat..

I don't really know a damned thing. I'm just good at bullshitting.

Seriously though, there are plenty of close-minded twerps in the grindcore scene as well. Although, most people in the general genre seem to be open enough from what I notice. Which is really quite nice. I guess "brutal" death metal has a bit of that mindset if they seriously go for the tough guy image. Haven't noticed too much of that luckily.

It sucks here. Just wiggers everywhere in Devourment and Suffocation shirts trying to act tough and doing their stupid ninja dancing. Ugh.

I love jazz, so it's cool to see it incorporated into super technical dm bands. If I listened to too much of any style I'd go insane though.

Dr Carlsson
06-02-2007, 12:28 PM
Never got the whole jock, tough-guy thing. It's a community, you're supposed to enjoy yourself while watching some twerps doing their thing onstage.. if you enjoy fighting, get the fuck out and punch somebody your own size.

Mr C.C.;

I love jazz and probably my fave artist ever is Frank Zappa, so I have a high tolerance for chops, believe me. I just don't think it fits too well into the context of this particular music, that's all. I forget what the US band was that we played with at Fuck the Commerce 2004 who used Les Claypool-ish type of bass parts while hyperblasting away, that was priceless.

Crucified Coma
06-02-2007, 12:30 PM
Agreed.

And awesome. Zappa was godly. And woo for Les Claypool. Seeing him tonight. :) Gotta figure out which band you're talking about.

Dr Carlsson
06-02-2007, 12:33 PM
Oh, you fucker.. getting to see Les play is a treat. Only saw Primus once, when they were a bit past their prime in 1996.

I saw the Zappa plays Zappa tribute last year, fucking amazing to experience those songs live. When Terry Bozzio played on a few songs, I was almost in tears.

Crucified Coma
06-02-2007, 12:39 PM
Sadly I was too young to see Primus back in the day, but I've seen them three times. And Les solo twice. And Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains once. Always an amazing time.

I'd love to see ZPZ, but it's always like $100 here, so eh.

Dr Carlsson
06-02-2007, 12:42 PM
I paid close to $100 for that show, worth every penny! Almost 3 hours, so they gave you a lot of music for the price of admission.

Anyway, I think if done right, you can have really techy dm that's just amazing. Like for me, Obscura by Gorguts is probably the greatest dm album ever released. It took the genre to a whole new level and proved what an amazing art form it can be. Other bands like Demilich and Cynic and Atheist have done similar. It's great to see younger bands like SoP continuing that.

Dr.McGonzo
06-02-2007, 12:57 PM
Actually, now that you mention these bands, I can get where vriend was coming from. In that sense I think we probably have more of a grindcore mentality and song structure than any of these bands, even though we are basically a death metal band.

Dr Carlsson

It's been said before, but so many bands have missed the whole issue of having a sense of humour about things. You don't have to be a joke band, but for fucks sake, chill out. The same goes for people who listen to it. Basically, all music is about a certain sense of enjoyment in whatever way. Fuck all this "lifestyle" shit and being the grimmest of the grim.
