yeah the fest was good, some really cool bands actually that surprised me with how much i liked them (Hour Of Penance, Despise to name two).

I saw some guy in a Stagnated Existence hood but couldn't work out if it was Gerben or Nils for 100% definate heh, probably not.

I've not got the package yet either. I was kind of hoping it'd arrived whilst I was in Holland but no luck as yet. I had to fight the temptation to buy a second copy while i was there to last me till if/when the preorder arrives.

I would say that the new Disavowed is a lesson of modern brutal death metal !!!
I wasn't very familiar with Disavowed until the gig in Bulgaria(Sofia),but after that this band become my favourite ! Actually most of the people on the consert were very impressed from Disavowed not so much from Cannibal Corpse !
So THE NEW ALBUM IS A KILLER !
But i would say that i love Perceptive Deception more ! And the demo Plateau as well ! I guess i gotta listen the new album more to price it properly !

i checked out the Neurotic table and they had that along with Arsebreed, Ruins, Panzerchrist and something else.

i had to restrain myself from buying it too out of sheer naivety thinking that the fact I'd pre-ordered it might actually mean i stood a chance of getting it before someone picking it up off that table that day, hoping it had been delivered whilst i was in Holland a week ago. evidently not.

Still nothing either.

As much as I hate to slag NR off or anything as such because I believe Ruud genuinely does do a really good thing with the label, it's really starting to make even me get a bit pissed off now.

Considering, according to the "news" on the NR site itself, they were being posted last week (ie the week that ended with Neurotic Deathfest) and the fact that shipping from Central America rarely takes more than a week... i guess it's just creating more questions than answers wondering if / when the bastard things are ever gonna show up.

I'm just glad I resisted temptation to pre-order the VB too otherwise i'd really be flipping out right now.

it's fucking stupid.

I placed an order with No Escape Records in Australia at least 12 days after the pre-orders were announced to be being shipped out AND received that Australian order virtually a week ago, and yet there's still no sign of a parcel from fuckign Holland.

Although it's good news of sorts that the preorders are actually turning up, it's fucking disgusting how people who've actually spent MORE money pre-ordering the complete packages still haven't reeceived anything and STILL have no news, estimations or anythign as to when or even if they're going to get shit all in the mail.

As soon as Brutal Bands get the albums, i'm getting it from them. Fuck Neurotic.

Labels, distance and how long on average they take to deliver:
Brutal Bands, Unmatched Brutality, Goregiastic - , , and respectively - all take an average of a week and a half to arrive maximum
No Escape Records - TEN AND A HALF THOUSAND MILES - arrived in about 7-10 days
Neurotic Records - 350 miles - so far been waiting since February with nothing but circumstantial announcements and secrecy just trying to find out what the fuck's happened to my order.

hardly reeking of a so-called professional organisation.
Probably guaranteeing me not being welcome at Neurotic Deathfest next year like but I don't care. This is fucking beyond a joke.
If you're going to screw people around at least pretend to keep them informed.

so the packages can magically make it the nearly five thousand miles from Tilburg to Victoria but not the 356 miles to me?

No worries. Should mean I stand a good chance of possibly getting my order from Neurotic Records sometime before I turn 30.

That doesn't make much sense to me either. I was actually kinda shocked that i got it today since so many people all over these forums have been waiting probably a lot longer than i have (i ordered mine in march) and yet i got mine before them.

Robbe K

Look: Neurotic is his label!
As a band, we can only ask him what is going on, like I did last week! He told me, he is sending out orders and yes, I know what went wrong with the printing of the album: the company Neurotic normally works with, totally fucked up: The order for the Disavowed CD's could be cancelled and transfered to another company, for the VB ones, I don't know.. So, That is the deal, right now: Ruud is getting the shipment in and he is sending them out one shipment of CD's at a time to the people on the list and the distributers...
As for Ruud not reacting: he is probably fed up with this as well and is trying to resolve everything: Do you think Ruud likes all of this? No, it's not good for the bands and the label!
So it all is bad bad luck! You wil lreceive the CD eventually!

Surt
06-01-2007, 10:17 AM
all i was asking was were you guys kept aware of shit, as he seems adverse to making any progress reports or announcements relating to customers more than a couple of ambiguous statements once every few weeks so i was simply curious as to whether you guys were being kept in the dark or not.

I wasn't trying to pass any blame on to you guys or anything like that.

It's really rare in all the years i've been ordering shit off the internet for something to repeatedly go as monumentally wrong as the Neurotic pre-order packages repeatedly have so I'm naturally probably making a mountain out of a molehill.

It might well have been "bad luck" and everything, but it wouldn't exactly hurt or cause as much negative publicity/feedback about Neurotic if he actually just said effectively what you've just said there about them being mailed out one shipment at a time.

Hell, we've pretty much been left to formulate our own reasons, speculation and conspiracies as to why shit's taken so long rather than simply being put in our place by someone that's actually seen to be trying to keep us up to date with what's going on rather than just keeping us hanging.
It's not the first time it's happend and such negative comments/threads have circulated, which surely you'd think would have meant that there'd be an effort made to at least improve the PR face of it after the malignant animosity of the Visceral Bleeding preorders not to mention the Spawn Of Possession ones too.

End of the day, i gave Ruud the benefit of the doubt back in November and pre-ordered a package from Neurotic having blind faith that with allt he shit that went on with the previous pre-orders, significant changes would happen and stuff would start workin perfectly... only to find myself seven months down the line in the situation where (SOME OF) the pre-orders have only just been started to be shipped and the majority of us are still left in the dark as to when we're ever going to get the pissin CD.

I actually naively thought that by pre-ordering the cd i'd actually stand a chance of getting the CD relatively early on in it's availibility, when it's actually turned out i'd have been better off not doing a pre-order and i've had had the CD in my hands weeks ago.

I know this has nothing to do with the band, my diatribe is aimed squarely at Neurotic's piss poor handling of it, and i'll always consider myself a Disavowed fan permanently... i guess i'm just venting.

fuck man. there's so many different flavours on this album... doesn't seem at all content with just running through the 2 or 3 minutes per song just plodding along... each song seems to be a unique organic mass burrowing it's way into your brain....

not wanting to piss on Perceptive Deception at all, but to use a description i used when describing 'Stagnated...' to a friend the other day... 'Perceptive...' seems (at least in hindsight) to be an album where the band were seeing what they could do and what they were capable of, whereas with 'Stagnated...' it's the band taking what they learnt from that, using it and pushing the envelope on top, doing things i'm pretty confident I wouldn't have anticipated hearing in a "Disavowed song".

Fucking nice work on teh vocals too Bob. I honestly was a little sceptical/worried when you said you were going to be aiming for a little more "range" (not sure if that's the word you used) with them on this album but fuck... sick as fuck. Not so varied that they lose their cohesion but different vocal textures, along with some sick-ass pseudo-gutturals (pseudo cause, well, they're not the generic Matti Way style stuff but still slightly gurgly).

*ramble*

Robbe K
06-16-2007, 05:51 AM
Word!!!!!

I agree with you, here!
Yeah: as for the vocals: I wanted to record my vocals as "normal" as possible, so no heavy eq'ing (the way how you can make your vocals sound more gutteral as they in fact are) or heavy compression. I also wanted to aim more to an old school vibe here: I have had it a bit with the "frog style" at the moment, but that can change in the future haha
Thanx!!

Surt
06-16-2007, 09:07 PM
yeah man... i know shit all about techniques regarding vocals or anything but to be blunt with you, your shit on 'Stagnated...' just sounds fucking... well, i can't think of the word, but they're way better than the sound i'd become accustomed to on Perceptive Deception and probably better than your half of the Arsebreed vocals.

i'll stop here like before i totally start kissing your arse man, but needless to say 'Stagnated...' is more than living up to my expectations so far...

Alright, I really have to talk about this album. This shit is fucking really really tight. Its been one of my favorite albums since I downloaded it ( I had already ordered it, couldn't wait to hear it ) With all the "brutal" deathmetal being played right now, which I love don't get me wrong, you guys put out a technically proficient, orgasmic to the ears album. I'm not a musician ( besides being an aspiring vocalist ) but everything on the album is tight. Dude, you're vocals are fucking sick. I'd really like to see you guys live, because man the vocals really stand out from a lot of the growls and shit i've been hearing lately. The drumming is of course sick, and I dont give a fuck what people say about "breakdowns" or whatever you want to call them in deathmetal, but the parts in "Treason" and "Dogmatic Deceit", where it breaks down, are so fucking badass it makes me want to fight someone. Anyway, this is a really "unprofessional" review but I just wanted to let you know that I really dig the album. Also, I got the cover art as my background. Seriously one of my favorite covers of all time competing with some greats like "...And Time Begins". That's about it. Hope to see you guys play sometime.

yep it's great. but I've gotta say that I preferred the vocal style used on Perceptive more. they were very unique. I appreciate that robbe is doing something different, but I'm not a fan of the overdone low vocals (like near the end of "Treason" during the "breakdown" riff). but the vocals are still unique and with death metal being picky about vocals is pretty silly I guess. but this new album is really a step up for Disavowed when it comes to technicality...even though I do miss the simple and addictive catchy riffs used on the first album. but traces of that are still on this one. basically the album is great...but too short! haha....Disavowed needs a 6 minute epic song or something!

Ah. Making a statment assuming someone who "swears" isn't intelligent, is, in turn, pretty unitelligent.

SculptedCold
08-28-2007, 08:02 AM
Indeed. But when you live in a country infested with people whose every other word is a swear, it becomes extremely grating ever hearing it. Swearing becomes synonymous with a mental inability to articulate or express, and that in turn tends to foster the impression of someone being stupid or lazy.

No one really wins, but I could have much worse prejudices. In Britain, this one usually works surprisingly well.

Honestly, after Psalms Of The Moribund, this has been my favourite DM release of the year so far. Didn't really see this coming because I wasn't the biggest fan of Perceptive Deception (although I like it more since I heard Stagnated), so the surprise was very nice. There's something about this album, despite the fact that it isn't that varied, it's very hard to get sick of it. Robbe's unique vocals are sick, I normally don't make too big a deal out of vocals but he brings the goods. Aside from that everything is tight, and despite the clarity of the guitar tone it feels like you left a bit of grittiness in there, which is important for me. There's some interesting drum beats on the CD too.

My favourite tracks are probably The Eternal Validity and The Veils Of Misconception.

Oh, and that album cover. Fuck me, that's easily one of the best covers I've seen. I even put it as my mobile phone background.

Sick as fuck! The vocals have more range and varied styles. The riffs still have the Disavowed trademark, but its ten times heavier, and the drums are tight as a fuck! Big shoes to fill in the drum department alright, and the new drummer delivered!

I also like the multimedia section. The making of the album, the live footage, etc... is authored fucking killer! This came as a surprise to me as the advertisements didn't mention the bonus material.

Overall, its a sick album! Now, I got to get me some new Disavowed merch! Thank you Disavowed for not wimping out!

you do know that there's two, rather different sounding, vocalists in Arsebreed not just Robbe, right?

I think Bob's vocals are bang on actually. Shows he's more than a one trick pony with the hand-cupping thing and he can actually do 'vokills' with more depth.

another thing that was such an important thing to Disavowed (at least to me) was the simplicity and catchy-ness of their riffs. now I'm not asking for you guys to write catchy songs or anything because I'm the type of person that doesn't mind listening to an album multiple times to understand the structure of a song. they're are traces of this on the new album that RULE "Restricted Conceptions" "Dogmatic Conceit" and "Treason" are the first that come to mind. but you guys really improved technically. but I felt like the technical side of Disavowed was Arsebreed. man I complain to much....haha. I don't hate the new album at all. I really like it actually. it proves that you guys have a unique style which is why I love this band so much. I feel like I've said this before....hahahahahaha

to be honest, while the simplicity and catchiness of the riffs in Perceptive Deception were a plus point, I think they were also what suckered a lot of critics into writing the band off as just being yet another Dutch band treading the same ground as the other bands around at the time.

Whereas with 'Stagnated Existence', there's still songs on there with the infectious (sp?) catchiness and groove we all love from the Dutch yet at the same time ratcheting up the technicality - without upping sticks and jumpnig into the 'TechDeath' camp - and in my eyes showing their critics more of what they as musicians are capable and proving wrong all those ones that slagged them off in the past.

I like both albums almost equally, but likewise I see 'Stagnated...' as a manifestation of the bands' natural progression and evolution into a leaner, meaner, killer.

I'm rambling again now anyway. To summise, yes the relative simplicity (in comparison to the second album - on it's own I'd still not say it's extremely simple) of 'Perceptive Deception' was part of the appeal but at the same time it didn't really showcase all of that which Disavowed can bring to the proverbial table.

EDIT: just realised people were talking more about the vocals than the riffs, but fuck it.

Question from Vriend is: What do you think makes a good textwriter?
A good textwriter in music to me is somebody who can:
1. write constructive lyrics, whatever topic he is writing on
2. convert these lyrics into compact vocalspatterns
3. make these vocalspatterns connect to the music

I don't think am a real good textwriter in this sense
