Hey, im from Venezuela, you guys make really cool music i love it ! Those Brain crushing rythms and fast solos ! And the vocals are perfect !
I was just wondering, what pedal of distortion, you guys would recommend me?
Im looking for a Boss metal zone, Line 6 uber metal, etc.
I play brutal death metal (Think Of Braindrill, Origin, Guttural Secrete)
Thanks !
P.S: Sorry for my english !

We use Mesa/Boogies Triple Rectifiers and rackmounted compression/Maximization, but you can squeeze tone out of Line 6 or various other solid state set ups if you invest a lot of time in knob twiddlin. If you want Origin kind of sound, I would recommend a tube amp, I know Paul Ryan and he uses a dedicated tube preamp and poweramp. I find tubes have more headroom and allow for more "crankability".

Honestly, I used a more intuitive approach with the Rectifier. I don't remember the actual settings...I forgot that we also used a Boss compressor/sustainer pedal for more gain. I turned down the gain on the Rectifier and relied more on the gain on the pedal to drive the tone. That's pretty crucial for getting a cleaner, sharper distortion.
As far as frequencies, though, bass was all the way down. The bass guitar should fill in the low end frequencies, not guitar. Mid was probably nine to ten o'clock, while highs were more noon to one-ish. Of course, I did run the guitar tracks through some processing like waves Eq. and I'll be fucked to remember those exact settings...they weren't that crucial (mostly to cut boominess and/or shrillness).

Yeah, tubes are usually really expensive. You could get some pretty good tone out of a Line 6 Pod Pro (rackmounted) which will cost you a lot less. But I feel like tubes are the best.

maybe a tube amp and no distortion pedals? cause theres a peavey, a valve king thats " cheap " but i havent used it before
Metastasis

Well, yeah the distortion comes from tube amp itself. If you are looking into something cheaper, make sure you try it out first and see if you can get the kind of tone you want. The thing about tubes is that they are usually harder to dial in than most pedals...you might need compression and eq. But definitely try gear before making a purchase.

I use a schecter diamond series 6 string. Although a good Ibanez (no floyd rose, though!) or a jackson can also get some good tone.

Do you hate the floyd rose??
Metastasis
03-26-2007, 11:16 PM
Yes, I do. There are good models out there, but the ibanez floyd rose is cheaply made and goes out of tune a lot...it's generally been a head ache in my experience.

How about a schecter hellraiser??

I'm not familiar with a hellraiser...you got a link? BTW, where's Max when you need him? He would know more than me when it comes to guitar talk. I'm more of a recording gear slut.

I agree, fixed bridges are better.

The schecter 7 string sounds fat. Nate bought one, but he returned it because he thought the neck was too thick.

I've never played a B.C. Rich that I liked. They mostly just look cool (I guess). Although, I think Pat (forgetting his last name) from Cannibal Corpse uses a B.C. Rich seven string, and it sounds awesome.

Schecter 006 elite is what I have...it comes with duncans that sound pretty good. A good, fixed bridge Ibanez would be good, too. Like the RG321: http://www.ibanez.com/eg/guitar.aspx?m=RG321MH

What about the Ibanez RGTHRG2, http://www.zzounds.com/item--IBARGTHRG2 , i checked that 006 elite looks nice, what can you tell me about the schecter
Metastasis

Oh shit, that Giger guitar looks awesome (except for the trem!)!
The schecter I have is pretty sweet, I can get some pretty fat tone out of it and works well with thick gauge, detuned strings.

Hey you guys use any type of effects when you are playing live ??
Metastasis
04-03-2007, 08:49 PM
Well, we are currently working on that right now. The guitars will probably be pretty straight forward, just a distorted rhythm channel and a clean channel, and both plus a solo channel with a reverb unit for Max.
As far as samples and loops go, I'm working on playing to a click track so that we can play it through a venue's loudspeakers. Either that, or using a MIDI controller and playing them manually.
