Hi There!
In my mind there is no doubt, the best Death metal producer is, and will always be Scott Burns...he has produced about all the milestones in early 90s Death metal, think of "Slowly We Rot", "Deicide", "Ten Commandments", "From beyond", "Leprosy"...Fill in the rest! My favorite productions includes: "De mysteriis dom sathanas", "Transilvanian hunger"(kinda Anti-produced, but my satan it works!), "Let us pray", "Extreme aggressions" etc etc. But really, Scott is my choice for best producer(He could make wonders with Exmortem he he...)!!

Different horses for different courses...

I mean, I like Neil Kernon, but would I like him to produce a Dark Throne album?

HELL no! :-)

Colin Richardson was also cool on the Carcass albums..

Rick Rubin IS the sound of Slayer...

...and when it comes to noizy, tortured sounds, Steve Austin from Today is the Day and Steve Albini are great!

Abyss Studios and Fredmann studios sound is beginning to bore me to death, though... :-(

Too polished and not enough POWER!

My 2 cents...

PS: If the drums doesn't sound good, then the rest crumbles if we're talking extreme metal!
Crucial!
