Yeah, that guy is a total protools editing hack.
^
rolls eyes at people who say this. Jezuz, John is the man, I checked out those interviews too, and they talk about 'taste' and 'groove'. And it's true, everybody talks about John's blasts, but the thing that makes him is that he does exibit great taste. If it was just straight blasting all the time Origin would be so boring, but all that blasting is actually just part of a jazzy, improvosational stew.

yeah, we actually played with them last july, it was amazing to watch and I did enjoy it. I actually got footage of all the guys in the band jamming, up close.

a theme tune for the website SickDrummer.com probably...
has all kinds of brutal drummers like Longstreth, Tomasz Pilaciewicz (whose name i used to be able to spell) of Gorgasm, Romain Goulon and tons of others.

yeah i know, i know it's one of those thing where once you learn how to do it you can pop them out pretty laxed
i just think it looks funny/cool when someone busts them out.
Longstreth truly has the speed technique down pat.
Really relaxed behind the kit and he's efficient and light with his hands.

Awesome! I love the way this is just one random live show and his playing is so full of energy and spot on.
Love him or hate him, you gotta recognise that Longstreth has somehow raised the bar for all of extreme metal drumming.

Right, so I've just regained consciousness after last night's gig, and jesus christ it was awesome. The guys are FLAWLESS musicians. Watching Longstreth play is really a fucken spectacle, damn. And Paul as well! That guy is fucking stamina! He has the oddest picking technique ever - 100% arm, no wrist or anything, and he can just keep on going at that ridiculous speed forever. The other guys were incredible as well, and James happens to be the nicest person ever, hahah. What an incredibly funny guy. I smoked pot with them! Win!!!
Misery Index kicked everyone's ass as well. I went up to Jason afterwards and just thanked him for being so awesome, I might have annoyed him, haha. But he was really nice as well.
Everyone should go catch these guys live. Incredible shit.

Misery Index, until Necro gets back on.
I was pretty drunk, but I remember (this is an approximated order):
Disease Called Man
Reciprocal
Staring From The Abyss
Implosion of Eternity
Endless Cure
Meat For The Beast
Echoes of Decimation
Perversions of Hate
(I THINK. No idea, I was pretty fucking drunk)
You can see my blond girly hair flailing in the bottom of this picture. At least I think it's me.

paul definitely has a weird picking technique, and he does move his arm a lot, but he uses a lot of wrist, too.

I love origin. haven't seen them live yet! How does their bassist Mike sound live? In all the videos I have seen his bass sounds like one big fart with alot of clicks. I don't see why he down tunes so much. Droping a E to B is pointless when you could have a 5 string...

he sweeps with 5 fingers. Erlend said that he double thumps with his fingers. uses them like picks. Idk you cant really see his plucking in any of the videos. I wish he would do a instructional dvd!

he mainly uses long and ring finger playing up and down, pretty much like you'd finger a girl (and friggin' fast too!!). i dont recon his bass sounded much different from most dm-bands. which is pretty much nothing at all btw

Faaaawken hell, what a show that was! I'd never heard Burning Skies before, and I feared that they were your standard deathcore band, but I must admit that I really got into their set, and so did quite a lot of the other persons in the crowd. I had a chat with some of the lads in the band after the gig, and they seemed really stoked by the way their European tour had turned out so far! Origin was absolutely amazing, even better than what I'd expected. Tight as fuck! They played all my favourite songs, except "Designed To Expire". I went totally bananas during "Perversion Of Hate" and "Portal", two of my favourite DM songs ever. Shook hands with all of the guys, and had a quick chat with John "Ryan Dunn" Longstreth too. Misery Index was decent, but I had to leave quite early in their set, as I had to catch the last train home.
I was also happy to see that the turnout was good, especially for a Tuesday night!
Disease Called Man
Reciprocal
Staring From The Abyss
Implosion of Eternity
Endless Cure
Meat For The Beast
Echoes of Decimation
Perversions of Hate
I believe they played those, plus Portal, Lethal Manipulation and Vomit You Out.
Mike is an incredible bassist, has some of the fastest fingers ever.
mate, there's a Northern Irish band called Condemned (no not the Californian band of the same name getting more recognition it seems) with a bloody phenomenal bassist.
Saw them live in Liverpool last year or the year before and the guy had practically everyone in a five metre radius just in total awe of his flagellation...

Echoes of Decimation
Perversions of Hate
Portal

Lethal Manipulation

He can play bass like a motherfucker!:emot-eek:
fuckin hell.
i went to two consecutive dates - and ironically got to witness them live with both a good PA sound and a fucking shit PA sound (which the big vocalist guy was NOT impressed about) - and my god... i can totally see what you guys mean now.
I have to admit the effect was kind of lost on me as far as when it came to listening to it on CD, but seeing it live...
the set-up last night in manchester was fucking dire, they couldn't get any decent sound in the monitors, the drum-kit kept shaking forward and Longstreth had to keep stopping momentarily to pull the bass back at times, and the triggers were, well, pretty much non-existent. They were there, you just couldn't tell they were. But conversely if anything that just made it all the more mindblowing that you could still actually hear Longstreth playing every single fucking note/beat/whatever HIMSELF regardless of triggers.
Pretty spectacular in retrospect, especially b ecause i had the two opposites: good sound in Leeds resulting in proper embludgeonment, shit sound in Manchester resulting in well, the opposite, but providing the unexpected spectacle of pretty much almost witnessing Longstreth in accoustic glory.
and as for the bassist. fuck.
they asked for a bit of bass for the sound check, and the guy was just reeling off some quick fingerwork that fuck knows what bands couldn't pull off in their tightest proper set let alone just for a soundcheck.
I got some cool pics of him actually which i'll upload later.
Random downside: the amount of people that wanted to talk to Longstreth but kept getting confused by the lack of a beard which made him look pretty much almost identical to this guy out of Diskreet who had the exact same 'do/complexion,..
btw, looking at the photo posted up there...

yeah but people sure as fuck weren't missing anything.
I witnessed them in Leeds and even most of the Necrophagist fans weren't happy they were that lacking in atmosphere, just completely going through the motions looking bored.
