Ok this might be silly question...
i see you dont have a bass player, so do you record bass guitar in the studio?
or is the synths handling this area?

not a silly question...quite a good one, really. on "cloak" there was no bass...but on "dmm" we used some minimal bass on about half of the songs.

about 90% of the time, the synths are bassy enough to negate the need for traditional bass guitar, but there were some instances where we needed a "punch" you can only really get from bass guitar.

live, it doesn't really matter that we don't have a bassist...after all, it's nothing that you can even hear on the recordings. it was more of an audiophile thing just to make the record sound a little beefier.
