Just in this evening from the OTV boys:
The latest events have caused much grief all over the country. A thick black cloud hangs above all of us as we unearth our dead from under the rubbles and bury them maimed and unidentified in collective graves!
How can we make any plans or foresee any future for our country when world leaders sit back and allow Israel to commit these atrocities? It is now very clear that Israel is above international law, above the UN Security Council and above humanity. They can clearly get away which so much killing without any form of reprehension!
Up till this moment Israel has not managed to really weaken Hezbollah. They tried to invade by land but suffered severe losses and were forced to retreat, claiming that they retreated for tactical reasons. Moreover they continue to cover their failure by targeting civilian areas as they did this morning when they committed yet another horrendous genocide at Qana (the second time in the last decade), killing at least 36 children and more than 60 civilians in total who had taken shelter in a 4 storey building that was so cruelly and unjustifiably brought down on their heads! This is essentially a brutal war conducted against civilians with children forming nearly 90 percent of casualties. This is a war aimed at destroying Lebanon, its people and its infrastructure. The Israelis destroyed all the roads and bridges linking the towns in the south of Lebanon to each other and to the rest of the country then threw leaflets asking civilians to evacuate, having made it impossible for them to do so. They then murdered those who were trying to escape the carnage by shelling their convoys, busses and ambulances, and they finally brought down the buildings on the women and children who had no other choice than to stay and take shelter in their homes. This is in its essence an act of cowardice and the lowest form of premeditated terrorism hiding behind the flag of democracy! Forgive me if I fail to find justice in these heinous crimes carried out with hatred guided missiles made in the US!
The Israeli government is realizing the extent of its failure day by day, but knowing the Israelis they will not comply with any request for a cease-fire until they realize some form of victory or redemption however far from their initial strategic objectives it may be. Moreover the US will not accept any form of cease-fire without guarantees that their plan for the region will be completely implemented. When we have seen the extent of failure of the US intervention in IRAQ, we can only expect the worst. The damage that we have seen in Israel so far is in no way proportional to the atrocities committed in Lebanon, and the only solution that could procure peace is one that serves the benefits of both sides. Lebanon should be allowed to grow and to form strong defenses against future incursions and penetration of naval and air space by Israel or any other country for that matter. How can the Lebanese army be expected to defend Lebanon when its arsenal dates back to World War II and when its procurement of helicopters and fighter jets is forbidden by international consensus? Is this not all part of a plan to keep Lebanon weak and use this small country on the Mediterranean as a battlefield to serve Israeli interests and US interests in their so called war on terror, the single most potent source of terror in the world?
