I think it means "you" in Japanese or something.

Haha. I don't know about that. It has a ring to it. Would be more, uhm, fitting if it meant "I", but I think Anata is a great name anyhow. The logo is perfect at least.

If you say the name really fast in a cockney accent you get:
A nutter'.
As in: YOU'RE A NUTTER, MATE!!!!

it does... but that would make it about the worst name ever for a death metal band. :emot-LOL:
Haha shit... ANATA actually means a lot of things in different languages. It's the Australian National Art Therapy Association, also a knitting company, a TV station in Russia, a confectionary company, a small village in Palestine completely flattened by the Israels...
When we came up with the name in -93, you know in the dark ages, we didn't have the internet. We thought we came up with something really original, a name that no one would copy. It was also symmetrical enough to make for a decent logo, sth that was quite important back in the days.
But what does ANATA mean? Oh, that's a secret. Let's just say it stands for our music :eplus2:

That begs the question, which syllable is stressed?

The middle. Read anata. That's how we say it. But there's no right or wrong really. For example, people in Germany seem to pronounce it quite differently. But we're kind enough not to correct them. As long as you say it as often as possible, we're happy with that.

Fredrik told me years ago that ANATA is a mix between Satan and Anal but backwards. That's why I joined this band.
