I am currently going through schooling to become a recording engineer, and I was wondering if you could tell me what kind of mics you used in the studio to record and time begins.Thank you.

Yeah, for the overheads we used a pair of Shure sm-81 LC's. For the snare we used a shure sm-57 (top head). For the hats we used an Audio Technica at4047. And we made the huge mistake of using triggers on the toms, I'll never do that again! And of course the kicks were triggered too, which is cool, but I think next time we will do a combo of natural bass drum and trigger. We recorded the drums to ADAT, then transfered everything to my Paris pro D.A.W. From there we tracked the guitars with two Shure sm-57's, in correct phase out to a high quality tube mic pre. The Bass was recorded direct in and mic'd up. For the vox we also used the at 4047 out to a tube mic pre.

thanks! I don't care for triggered toms either. I don't know how Sandoval gets away with it but it works for him I guess. What kick drum mic would you use if you were going to use one? D112?
Shure Beta?
I would also like to know what gear derek used on the recording and what you used compression on. Thank you.

We used compression on everything (post tracking) via plugins. Derek Used an SWR SM900 bass head with a 6x10 Goliath SR. bass cab, a Sans Amp Bass DI, a BBE sonic maximizer, and a Tobias 4 string bass with 18 volt active pickups. We recorded him one channel direct and one channel mic-in through a tube preamp.
Humm... I'm not sure about what mic I'd use to record kicks, I've heard those Beta's are great, but I would have to consult my higher powers to guide me on the right track.
