JAPAN & HONG KONG
To be asked to play in Japan, was one the biggest dreams for everybody in Disavowed! This is exactly what happened, almost a year ago, when the guys from Tokyo Deathfest approached us. I personally, jumped a “hole in the sky” and this whole thing was one of the first initiators for putting things in Disavowed back together after a long period of inactivity.
At that time we weren’t playing any shows because of our drummer having a wrist injury. We all decided it was a good idea to start rehearsing again after a period of more than a year, to get the Disavowed machine rolling again, because it was falling apart at that time. We looked for drummers in Holland, but nobody was able or willing to play with us, so we looked abroad and found Dirk from Despondency to fill in as temporary replacement for the mighty Robbe V (also Pyaemia). After a short period of rehearsing with Dirk, we were asked to play at the Tokyo Deathfest! A huge stimulant for Disavowed and Dirk to get everything in shape!
TOKYO DEATHFEST
After doing two local shows in Holland first, it was finally time to go to Japan! We flew on the on the 25th of April to Tokyo. It was a 24 hour flight in which we had to change airplanes in London and Hong Kong. We almost lost our connection in London, due to severe luggage control, but in the end we made it in time! After the long flight, we were picked up by the guys from the Tokyo Deathfest and we had to wait for a couple of hours more, to finally meet our brother Keisuke from Vomit Remnants! This guy is awesome! We could stay at his place for the time we were in Tokyo! He turned out as our driver, caretaker and the best host we have ever seen! Awesome! He showed us around in Tokyo with a van he rented and drove like a maniac!
The only thing missing at that time, were our guitars and bass guitar! They didn't arrive in Tokyo, but after a couple of days they arrived as well!
The Tokyo Deathfest consists of two days of death metal mayhem and is held in two different venues to attract a wider audience, because Tokyo is so big! We had to play on both days and in our first show we had a bit of bad luck! The drum module of Dirk stopped working 5 minutes before playing our show, so we had to lend Keisuke's module! Well this module didn't work exactly as planned, so at certain points in our set, the bass drums went completely over the top! The other thing is that I fell down the stage while I was introducing ourselves: "HELLO, we are DISAV.................. BOOM". Ha Ha Ha! I didn't see the end of the stage, because of the darkness and fell really hard on a steel pole! Well, the rest of the show went fine, fortunately! Some crowd surfing, stage diving and a lot of mosh pitting!
In the second show, we took revenge! The crowd went nuts and our show was tight, like it was supposed to be! Banzai!
In the end we had a great time, especially with our host Keisuke and the vocalist of Vomit Remnants Takanori! Lot's of respect to them! They showed us around and helped us on our way! Keisuke is the most hardworking man, we have ever seen!
Then we were off to our second adventure:
SONI & HONG KONG
After our adventure in Tokyo, we had to fly back to Hong Kong, so before we left Holland, we got in contact with Soni from Trinity Records and he agreed to set up a show for us in HK! Awesome!
Soni arranged a hotel for us, which turned out really nice! After 5 days sleeping on the floor at Keisuke's place, a couple of beds were most welcome! We had some nice dinner and talked to Soni about the show! There is not such a big scene in Hong Kong and we were wondering how many people would show up! We drank some beers in a local bar and I have to tell you that the surroundings were completely different form Tokyo! It was hot, sweaty and there were a lot of bars were woman would try to get you in, to buy them expensive drinks!
Later that evening we got to see the place where we should play and it turned out to be a small restaurant in a cellar! The drum kit was not that good, so Soni arranged a better one, fortunately! And here it is: At that time we thought maybe 50 people would show up! It tuned out to be more than 250! It was total mayhem! People screaming and going out of there minds!!! Imagine: 250 people going mad in a really small restaurant! The owners of the Restaurant won't forget it! This was definitely the highlight of the whole trip! It made a big impact on all of us!
A big hail and thanx to Soni! He is one of the initiators to bring metal to Hong Kong! Respect! I hope he can arrange more shows like this and bring more bands to Hong Kong!
FINAL THOUGHTS
We would like to thank the promoters form the Tokyo Deathfest, Keisuke and Soni from Trinity Records for organizing the shows!!! I hope we can come back in the future!! We wish Soni all the best with setting up a big metal scene in Hong Kong! There are really talent bands around! Hermetic Silence and Nanahara Shvya are worth to mention and hopefully more bands will show up from the pits of the city!
We are currently working on a new CD and we will start recording in September! We have new drummer called Romain from France and he is really pushing the songs to a new level! Check out Soni's label Trinity Records and keep supporting the underground!!!! We will be back!!!!
