When they're overused it's very tasteless and tacky. Paul tends to do it which I think takes away a lot of what would make me personally think he's an amazing player. I kind of just think of him as a very talented guy who if he used less sweeps and maybe used some other sort of techniques would be putting his talent(and the guy has a lot of it) to better use.

It's because they're wankerous as hell, especially in that song. Sweeps only work well maybe ONCE in a solo, not playing 4 complete measures of them...gets old really fast.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the skill it takes but it's just wack...makes it sound like your trying to prove a point. I don't like that solo for the same reason I don't like almost every Necrophagist solo anymore, haha.

lets face it. a beginner can play the vast majority of the selkies solo, but that doesnt make it a bad solo. it makes it a solo that fits the song/mood.

the selkies solo is really good. so is the fermented offal discharge solo. however, (with selkies) it turns from a good hearted solo that fits the song into a guitar lesson. fermented solo is pretty nuts tho...

btbam has always (as far as i know) not been out there to impress people...someone should write the ending of the selkies solo without the sweeps and put it on tabit

I mean, call me gay, but I don't see anybody else doing that, so it makes it original, and it's also crazier than shit. I fucking love Necro. Only complaint is the vocals. Very monotonous imo.

If you read up the page a bit someone says that sweeps are tasteless. I am just pointing out that Necrophagist are just tasteless fullstop, yet they are getting their dick sucked for doing it. Some people are pretty hypocritical when it comes to bands they love, and bands they loathe.
