Which bands were good and which were not as good as you would have thought. Any surprises? I was only there for the grind bands, so that's all I'm gonna talk about. But I'd still like to read other stuff.
I thought that Butcher ABC totally kicked ass. I was hoping that it would be good, but it was better than I thought. It looked like lots of people were very familiar with Butchered at Birthday. I was kind of nervous that they wouldn't have a good response, but I was happily surprised. I also thought that Mucupurulent was one of the biggest disappointments ever on a live set. I know they changed and I know they don't use the high screams anymore on the new stuff. But when they played the old songs on Sicko and Horny Like Hell, they just replaced the high screams with low grunts... This was a total disappointment and would actually rather not have seen them because they were fucking boring. I'm not gonna knock the latest album or anything because bands change, but don't play the old ones without the highs because that's what I wanna hear. Maybe I'm alone on this one. I really like Embryonic Cryptopathia but it was not as cool without a shifter I'm afraid... Not as exciting as I was thinking, but still a cool set! I went in knowing what to expect of Haemorrhage and Rompeprop and was not let down. Absolutely amazing sets and I love the new Rompeprop song "The Cleveland Steamer"... Haha... Never imagined they would use that as a song title, but cool!!! I missed Unholy Grave cuz of a "problem". Any good??? I haven't heard how they played from anyone.

I didn't go to the fest, but Unholy Grave was REALLY good at the NYC show.

Damn... I was hoping that they didn't kick ass! Wish I would have seen them. Oh well I guess.

Day 1 i thought Muinicipal Waste, Skinless, and CLiteater were the best

Day 2 Rompeprop, unholy grave, disfear, and Necrophagist were amazing

Necrophagist's sound sucked. I liked Severe Torture, Alarum, Anata, Haemorrhage, Butcher ABC. There weren't any bands I hated. I missed Rompeprop's set and I see that was a BIG mistake.

I'm not trying to stir up a bunch of shit, but I was actually really disappointed with rompeprop. a lot of their material sounded watered down and i hate vocal effects. I was outside during the first half of their set, so i don't know. maybe I haven't listened to them enough?
three bands I hadn't heard and thought were real impressive were Unholy Grave, Sayyadina and Embalmer. Necrophagist's sound was shitty, but they played a good set and they played a week later in my hometown, so that made up for it.
Severe Torture was good , but the whole fucking time there was a guy about 7' tall who was being a total dick in front of me. it sucks being short.

Cattle Decapitation, Necrophagist, Rompeprop, Cliteater, Vital Remains, Yacoepsae (VERY impressive), Skinless, Anata (OMFG they ruled), Alarum (woah so sick), and Cenopath.

Those were my favorites.

Disfear wasn't bad...had great stage presence...but their sound all messed together in a wave of treble.

I actually hate the vocal compressor as well. Their music is VERY good though...I just wish it were natural vocals.

Sadly I had only really heard of a few bands that were at Deathfest this year. And it was mostly the main ones. So I went into this show with a very open mind. I'm very glad I did though because I ended up loving almost every single band that played. I thought they all put on great shows and it pushed me more into the grind genre than I had been.

First day the best bands by far were: Cenotaph, Clit Eater, and Butcher ABC.

2nd day best bands by far again were: Sayyadina, Haemorhage, Machetazo, Severe Torture and Rompeprop. (I may have days mixed up for 2 of these bands)

Let's face facts, hardly anybody on this or any other thread really were blown away by the headliners. Rompeprop easily was the best band, played the best set, and had the best crowd response.
