Maryland Deathfest V will take place on May 26 and 27, 2007 and will return to the same venue at SONAR (http://www.sonarlounge.com/) (Baltimore, MD). Be sure that we will come back with an amazing billing of bands to help celebrate the 5th anniversary of the festival!
Soon we will be ready to announce the first few bands confirmed for the next festival, then additional band announcements will be made over a period of several months. Tickets are expected to go on sale at the same time as previous years, most likely in December.
Not much will change with our approach, except we will probably have a total of 28 bands in 2007 in comparison to the 32 in 2006. This will allow for the headliners to be scheduled a bit earlier. Doors will also likely open slightly later than in 2006.
We have a new message board, so go here (http://www.smnnews.com/board/forumdisplay.php?f=150) and take a look.
Vendors @ MDF V - Vendor space will be strictly limited in 2007 and reservations will be taken on a first come, first serve basis starting in August. Once that limit has been reached, it will not be possible to reserve a table. We won't be making any exceptions with this procedure. You can contact us (http://www.supremebrutality.com/fest/contact.html) anytime for more information.
Start spreading the news early with this banner!

I was just told that sonar's been bought out... to make condos!
someone from the maryland scene said they found out about it like a day ago

As expected, that is just a rumour about Sonar...
"don't worry, we're not going anywhere."
that is what the owner told me, and I believe him...
See you at Sonar in 2007....

thats awesome, that fucking club was absolutely perfect
and personally id rather have fewer bands for the same reasons cited earlier, not to mention i mainly came for 5 or 6 bands (drove 13 hours from Illinois)
edit: I notice that Haemorrhage's singer is on that banner, i hope that means what i think it does

I'm sorry. But I, along with the group of friends that went with me to the show, did not like the venue. There was a lot of smoke which wasnt our main gripe. There was absolutely no where to sit inside and toward the end of the 2nd day we weren't allowed to leave the venue because of the police. So we were stuck inside in the heat for a few hours with a large crowd after we had already been standing for close to 10 hours. That was very displeasing..and honestly this venue may keep us from attending next year. If all those homeless fucks can walk around the city and beg for money I dont see what the big deal was with some kids sitting outside in the grass for 20 minutes. From what I saw, everyone who was attending the show seemed to be behaving.
Other than that though I'd say we had a good time.. except for vital remains... (not to try be all negative).
You should try out deathfest in a large open field kind of in the middle of nowhere. (haha)

Um, there was a lounge at the venue with couches. Obviously not enough couches to accomodate nearly 1,500 people, but there were some. Not to mention if I attend any general admission fest, I don't expect the venue to have seating for everyone as well. Just sit on the floor, unless you are afraid of getting a speck of dirt on your pants.
Re entry was no problem until the last 2 hours of the fest when the police made the venue pull the plug on it because of too many people in the streets. In fact some fests advertise re entry until 10 or 11 PM for that very reason, but we tried to make it possible the entire time. Up until that time you could've gone outside and sat wherever the hell you wanted, just as many people were doing...so I'm unsure why you are complaining about standing for 10 hours when you didn't really have to do that.
Furthermore I don't remember it being overly smokey inside, and if it was, you could've walked outside not only for fresh air, but to sit as well.

This reminds me, I keep hearing that there was a stabing or something at the fest. What was up with that?

Nobody was stabbed.
All I know is there was a problem between a few drunk mexicans and a bottle broke. Security handled it correctly and it was the only little problem experienced.

True, but everyone knows that 99.9% percent of the people attending the fest are completely laid back with no interest in traveling across the country or from overseas to start some stupid problem and get thrown out of the venue. Of course there's always the potential of a dickhead or 2, that's a given with a lot of people in one place.

If you went to MDF 3, then you would realize how generous the re-entry policy for the Sonar is. On day 2, there was no re-entry, period. Some of us were in there for 10 hours.

True, the guards at the House of Blues were dicks, but if you knew about the downed fence behind the Relapse table then you could have come and gone all day each day. My friends and I brought beer and food in from outside the whole time.
Hook Aversion to Life up man I pretty sure that the rest of the guys would be cool with that, hehe.
The police definately would not let people outside to sit, and it was NOT just "the last two hours" they came in early afternoon sunday and told all of us we would be arrested if sitting on benches or grass across the street. Definately not the promoters fault but that's what happened, we all had to go.
How about selling some food next time? The mile walk to subway really sucked because by sunday they were out of meat!!!
Great festival though, definately worth the price of admission, I go every month if they had it ;-)

Yeah I thought that diner across the road lost big $ by not remaining open.
Lucky my hotel was only three blocks away.
You are right about that diner!!!! LOL, i thought the same.

well the diner was supposed to be open and closed just before the fest without our knowing.
regardless we will look into having street food vendors next time, similar to what you would see outside of a stadium event.

negros?!?! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! !!!!
I must say that when we were walking through the town (leaving the show sunday), there were soooo many black guys on the street just watching cars. up here in the north, that would in of itself be a huge problem for 2 crackers. my gf slammed straight in to one dude while marching back to the car. in NE, that would have been the start of WWIII.
but the dude was so nice. I was ready to bolt.

we were sitting in the lot during some band and there were people drinking in some vans, and people just hanging out listening to music....so harm being done really....If anyone trashed there spot then they fucking suck.

i really dont have any complaints at all it was my 4th mdf and i thought it was the best one yet, and being a resident of maryland i can definetly tell you all sonar is the most accomidating venue for mdf in the area.

as intimidating as baltimore can be people can be really cool, most of baltimores venues are in kinda shitty areas (sonar is a huge exeption that is a fairly nice area) and usually the people living in the neighborhood dont bother people going to show.
and to the guy complaining about the smoke its one of those things that come with the territory when you goto a concert.

Ryan,
Was my first time to MDF and I had a hell of a time. I think it was very well organized event. My buddy and I hung out with the guys from Dismember, and Paula from Candlelight over the weekend. Other than a few issues I saw with merch tables being overcrowded ( which I think your going to try to keep under control in '07 ) I thought the event was flawless.
Would love to see Dismember invited back. They put on a hell of a show.
Horns up!
