I haven't seen this, which issue was it? We actually invited both Terrorizer and Zero Tolerance and both sent reviewers to the show. Hopefully they were impressed as that was about as good as it gets (in my opinion).

All Blasphemy nights are now cancelled the venue doesn't want them anymore which I think is bollocks cause anyone who attended the Death Vs Black metal night would have seen how fucking packed the place was! They said it was due to "negative effect on friday trade" probably meaning the business men who drink there didn't like the look of us, the rowdiness or the "noise" haha Fucking cunts! I'm so sick of doing this all on my own, I have done since day one and its been fucking hard word to no avail, there are many local metal heads who couldn't find the time to support the fucking scene, some nights were really busy some nights were empty no matter how I plugged the gig and no matter how fucking good the bands were! Maybe if I had help it could have been better! I put myself through the stress and loss of money to try and do something for the scene who in turn didn't give me the support I feel I bloody well deserved!
If I do find another venue I would want a partner in crime to help me out with it or I'll just give it up and lay it to rest once and for all. Rant Over!

Keep an eye on the Forbidden gig that was lined up at the Underworld, sure it's off. I was in the World's End pub on Friday + Saturday and their gig list that was up by the front doors had it listed as cancelled, but when I last looked, it wasn't confirmed as off on the Underworld's gig page.

As for Blasphemy Nights, I've only ever attended one (the black vs death one). I live outside London, so it's not always easy to finish work early enough and gather yourself for a trek to East Croydon. Most Central/North London underground gigs get pretty good attendances, but then owners like the guy from Bar Monsta seem to be pretty supportive.

Bah, every big city has poor turnouts at times.

I remember going to see Misery Index with Coldworker in Manchester last year and there honestly being probably no more than 8 people tops, easily outnumbered by the bands and crew.
Same story with Vomitory a couple of years back with only about 10 people there.

But then to contrast with that you get some schmuck tour planner scheduling dates in the likes of Hull and Norwich - hardly at the forefront of international tours coming through - for Origin and Hour Of Penance so I can only imagine how piss poor the turnout is going to be at both those dates.

In short

Unmerciful were fucking killer as were Decrepit Birth and Detrimentum. Emeth were alright but i thought they sounded very thin in comparison to the other bands, grind inc were really good, and i just chilled in bar for Cryptopsy but i did not hear anyone complain and they sounded good but i not really a fan so cant comment, did not see infestation or brainchoke & prejudice did not play.

Unmerciful were intense, brutal, and tight as fuck. They totally owned.

Decrepit Birth played the best performance I've seen by any band ever. I was into their set on a level high above any other band I've seen, it was quite an experience lol.

Emeth were a bit of a let down, kinda weak, probably a bad gig for them.

I only caught the very end of Detrimentum as I arrived late due to working, sounded tight as ever though.

Didn't watch Cryptopsy.

Unmerciful were my fave band of the day and Detrimentum were the best of the early bands, honourable mentions for Decrepit Birth and Grind Inc. Emeth are kind of like a light version of old Aborted stuff, to me, they did a Pantera cover too.
Cryptopsy stayed away from poncey new stuff, I did recognise 'slit your guts' from 'none so vile', one of my fave tracks by them. Prejudice pulled out, so set times got switched about a little, but every band got a decent amount of time to play.

Thanks for the write-ups. Here's what a friend of mine wrote:

Went in at about 4pm and Infestation were towards the end of their set. Very ordinary. So that meant I missed Brainchoke and Detrimentum, who I wouldn't have minded seeing in retrospect.

First band proper then were Emeth, who had some serious kick drum trigger issues, regardless the crowd reacted well until they decided to commit suicide by performing a cover of Pantera's "Strength Beyond Strength". The floor emptied when they did that. Their set was mainly from the latest album - dull. They only did one track from the 2nd album but did do a couple from the debut, which actually sounded really good. Real shame about their choice of set.

Next up was Grind Inc who were so so ordinary, but got a really good reception. Unmerciful followed and ruled IMO. I was down the front and to be honest the sound was shit, but I had an unrestricted view of Clint Appelhanz's playing. Their vocalist is a really good front man too. They did their Suffocation "Catatonia" cover too!

Decrepit Birth were also very good. Their sound was tops and they had a 2nd guitarist who was also excellent. Their vocalist is a decent front man also, and KC Howard really is an awesome drummer. Set was balanced between 1st and 2nd album, and they covered Suffocation's "Liege of Inveracity"!

Then Cryptopsy. No Keyboardist. New vocalist was average. I was right in the front again so couldn't really hear him properly. Had an unimpinged view of Alex Auburn which was another treat. Set was pretty short, and was pretty good until the last 3 songs when it turned great - "Slit your Guts", "Cold Hate Warm Blood", and the encore of "Phobophile" were all fucking awesome, and vocalist aside, the rest of the band were shit hot!

So all in all 3 decent sets from the bands that mattered most.
