I'm hoping to have about a grand. I need a new amp desperately. The SS marshall that I had probably wont cut it even if i do decide to fix it. I want a really good amp because I want a great sound, but at the same time I probably wont be putting much use into it in the foreseeable future other than jamming with some friends in my band that I have more or less just for fun.

I will need a head and a cab, because I don't have any tube cabs.

I was originally looking at a Powerball, because they seem well worth it, but for what I will be using it for, I'm not sure, as like I said, I'll need a cab too.

Right now I'm highly considering a Dual Rect. I've always loved the sound they have.

Here is where you guys come in.

How much can I get a dual rect for? (new and used)
How does it stack up to some other amps within that price range ($200-300 above or below)
What are some other good amps that will give me a good sound and be suitable for what I'm using them for?

and anything else you think I should know.

for the love of christ get a powerball. ask sean why.

i witnessed the most beautiful tone i have EVER heard in my entire life (and i almost collapsed due to the sheer awesomeness of it).

as much as i badmouth mesa.. the dual rect gets the job done if you know how to work it

you can probably get a good used one for like 900-1000.. but you should check out www.madisonamps.com

great sounding shit, i've heard about a few issues with "poor construction".. but i think that's a bunch of crap, they sound great and are pretty cheap/versatile

check them out at www.rocksolidamps.com

I know how awesome the powerball is, but its probably not suitable, depending on how much more money I'd have to spend. I'm going to try not to drop more than $1800 on anything, and considering that I'd have to get the cab too, or a cab (which with a head that nice, I'd need a cab equally as nice in order to not jew myself out), I just don't have that kind of money.
