Read an article about that first dog a couple of months ago... apparently it's from what's regarded as one of the most beautiful (if you're into that sort of thing) breeds, but somehow a prizewinning bitch spawned that freak of nature (according to the artivel he's actually a pedigree).

he was one of those breeds indeed I think, but he was born with a genetic defect or something causing multiple ailments (loss of fur, blindness etc)...

Still prizewinning though, as he was crowned Worlds Ugliest Dog a couple of years.

Unfortunately died at the beginning of the year i think though.
Rumours about it happening after catching sight of itself in the mirror are purely circumstantial.
