Hey guys - This is my first post on the Atheist boards...just wanted your opinion. (Forums are a great place to go for opinions...everyone has one, sometimes two...)
The above is a link to my bands MySpace, we've been around for about 5 years, I've been drumming for them for about 2 years.
We've just started shopping for labels, and have been getting some awesome reviews in Terrorizer and Metal Hammer etc...
Just wanted to know if you guys thought we sound at all like Atheist? It's weird, because once we started sending the demo out, alot of the reactions were that we have an undeniable Atheist influence, and admittedly, we are huge Atheist fans...
The thing that perplexes me is that I only really started listening to them AFTER we started getting compared to them! I'm guessing it's maybe the fact that we have a natural 'off time' writing style and fluid riff progressions?
I'd love to know what you guys think.
Cheers in advance!
- James.

Not bad at all, but I wouldnt compare you to Atheist in the first place as there are many other bands that have a similar sound. Like Amoral.

Thanks for checking it out Epitaph...
I can't say i've heard Amoral, but I know there are alot of bands with a similair sound.
I mean, i'm no Steve Flynn...that's for sure...But I just found it odd that people were comparing us to them when I hadn't really heard too much of their stuff to begin with!
Anyways, like I said - cheers for checking it out.
I'll be keen to see what others think too.

There's a little piece here and there that sounds somewhat like Atheist, but I wouldn't go so far to say that you sound like them. Good stuff by the way.

Wow those are some great tunes... Usually amateur death metal vocals (well, it's not limited to just amateur) I don't like, but he has that cool 'quality' that I like in it. Some great musicians in there, I like the acoustic in 'perpetual', although I don't really like that low clean voice in it. I think I can see what he was trying to do, but it just wasn't really executed right in my opinion. Good job, though, seriously. I wish you guys the best.
Oh yeah I didn't really hear the Atheist in it. I may have to listen to it more to draw a better conclusion.

F.Y.I - The "clean" vocal part in 'Living a Perpetual Dream' was dropped years ago...we hope to re-record this song at some stage as well...That e.p was recorded years ago...I didn't drum on it.
Please keep your eyes and ears out for us, as we are currently shopping for a label, and hope to get a full length out really soon.

Good stuff! I hear Atheist, Obliveon(Canada), Kreator, and maybe a little Morbid Angel or late-period Death.
The guitar riffs are structured a little like the way Atheist does it. The tempo changes are along those lines too. There are similarities, for sure. I'd say Atheist and late Death are good comparisons, but its not close enough to get confused.
Thts some cool guitar work and some mighty spiffy drumming. I like the riffs too. Good variety and not too much of any one thing. Enough changes to not let me get bored.
well done!!!

Oh, and Fatalerror slipped in whilst I was replying - thanks for checking out the stuff, and for your opinion dude!
I may have neglected to mention - I don't really think we sound that much like Atheist personally, it just seems to be a reoccuring opinion in our Reviews...

Woah...I'm blown away by the feedback i've received in one day!
Thanks so much for listening pitchfork...i'm digging that you hear some Death influence in there - they are a HUGE inspiration to all of us in the band.
I'm also amazed that you compared us to Obliveon as well...Only one other person I know has compared us to them, and that was the guitarist from Beneath the Massacre when I linked him to some of our stuff.
Like I said - Keep your eyes and ears peeled for some new material real soon...I'll try keep you guys posted as well as I can!

Oh yeah - and if you guys have bands - link me! I wanna hear that shit!

Well both shows have websites, http://www.sexto9.com & http://www.divasatanica.com and we put our playlists up at the end of each show (as you can see there...) Sex to 9 is broadcast on Totalrock ( http://www.totalrock.com ) and Diva Satanica is only via the website for the moment, we're hoping to get it on FM here in Spain (it's basically the same as the other show except in Spanish, and 2 hours instead of 3)

[QUOTE=SteveFlynn]Wow, that's a hell of a compliment... thanks a lot man.. I really appreciate it! Especially since you guys are great players.
I think the comparisons to Atheist, as Mr. Fork highlighted, come from the nature and style of the guitar rhythms. They're melodic, snake-like, riffy with harmonies and they change a lot. That was a trademark of the guitar structures in Atheist and your drums change a lot....just like I did in Atheist. So, I could see where people would say that.....though I hear a lot of other influences/similarities as well.
It seems that a lot of great bands are coming from Australia now. I'm sure bands like yours and Alarum have been there for a long time....we're just now getting to hear them on this side of the planet thanks to the internet.
I look forward to hearing new material from you guys and more Australian bands.... Unfortunately, I can only hear the songs on my shitty computer speakers..... hopefully I'll get to hear an actual CD when you get your new stuff recorded....
Thanks again for your compliment about me and about Gnostic. We'll have new stuff in June.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH.... that's just awful. Did they live in LA at the time?.... I mean Motley Crue looked gay as well but were considered one of the heaviest bands around in early/mid 80s.... I just wonder if they got swept up in that LA scene.

Well to get back to the topic: I like this band! I also hear some similarities with Atheist. But the sound of the new songs (from the last EP) has something of later-Death, rather than Atheist.
Is there btw any news? Any new songs? Plans for a new cd? If so, I'd love to hear some more!
