Ok this board is in hibernation, so I'll do my little bit to try and liven it up. There are quite a few new releases which I'm looking forward to (metal and otherwise). Here's what I'm on tenterhooks for:
ENTOMBED - Say what you will, I LOVE these Swedish Death N Rollers! :hbang32en The awesome "Left Hand Path" and "Clandestine" assured their place in DM history, but I have as much love for their more straightforward blues/hardcore/rock flavoured metal ("Same Difference" being the only album where even I went "umm, dudes you're not trying!") With Uffe pursuing a more noise-orientated direction with crustheads Disfear, I actually have a suspicion that the remaining members might make a return to the more traditional Stockholm DM sound. Tracks like "When In Sodom," "Thou Shalt Kill" and "Carnage" sound very promising. I knew there was a reason I dug out my Autopsy "best of!"
SPAWN OF POSSESSION - on the modern hypertechnical US-worshipping side of Swedish DM, I am drooling for the sophmore release "Noctambulant" from these sickos- CC on methamphatemines! Better than "Cabinet?" I have my doubts, but I'm looking forward to being proven wrong!
DISFEAR - Tomas Lindberg's crust mob. If you like a bit of Motorhead, Discharge, hardcore and grind, their new one should be worth checking out.
UNMERCIFUL - One of the new ultrabrutal DM bands that I'm most excited about. I really wanna hear them assert themselves in the upper ranks of premiere US DM.
DEATHBREATH - Returning to Sweden (again!), it's time to go back in time with this fetid, puke-covered and rotting ultra old school death metal mob, featuring Swedish DM greats Nicke Andersson and Jorgen Sandstrom (if you don't know who they are... for shame!) Nicke has currently put the groovy Hellacopters (quality retro punkrock with balls!) on hold, to return to the genre that established his name in Entombed- DM always triumphs! :martyr:
Nicke was reading the solid "Choosing Death" book and said so many great memories came flooding back, that he had to return to the fray.
Note that he is wanting to go back before Stockholm... to the very roots of the genre: inspirational reference points include classics like Death "Scream Bloody Gore" and Possessed "Seven Churches."
If all you listen to is subpar metalcore, emo, wannabe kungfu fighting hardcore, endorsed by Ozzfest etc. --> FUCK OFF! :flipoff: You are not wanted here. Genuine lovers of music and metal, await Deathbreath!
BLOOD TSUNAMI - Raw, violent thrash from Norway, featuring Faust (ex-Emperor, Scum) on drums. If you like Stone Age era Metallica, Slayer and Kreator in their full Glory (Like codgers like me do, HeHe!) and mourn the passing of Defleshed, this band's debut will require your immediate attention.
COVENANCE - Brutal technical DM crew featuring warriors from Dying Fetus, Misery Index and Cryptopsy... Martin Lacroix's new band. I really liked his vocals and wish him every success... now is his time to shine! I'm assuming his English is improving as this band is in the states: is he leaving Montreal? No matter, I am very interested in this.
and finally
COLDWORKER - Masterblaster Anders Jakobsen from grindmasters Nasum (RIP) new band. With grind still flavouring the mix, this band will definitely have more of a DM edge, with some of the demo riffs showing an almost CC influence. After much quality grindcore, Anders said it was time for something new, and I respect and endorse his choice. I cannot wait to hear the debut and hopefully se 'em live.
And there you have it. Damn it, this stuff can't come out soon enough. If you have opinions or info to share on these groups, please do so. What discs have you massaging your dick in anticipation?
Have at you! :D

Yeah, and I'm still trying to get it through my head that they have a guitarist that's FIFTY-FUCKING-THREE years old. That's insane. I though that Bill from Decrepit Birth was the craziest old man in death metal, but I was proved wrong. At the same time, Bill lives in a huge home-made shelter, that's fucking death metal right there! :hbang32en

DISFEAR - Tomas Lindberg's crust mob. If you like a bit of Motorhead, Discharge, hardcore and grind, their new one should be worth checking out.
Oh yes... should be class - I only wish it was another Lock-Up CD though, as Hate Breeds Suffering is Tomas' finest album performance to date.
This should be a corker, although I wonder if it will be a full-time touring band or just a studio project? I'm sure I read that Matt Byers & Bruce Greig left Misery Index because they couldn't deal with the touring. It should be cool to hear what they come up with anyways...
and finally
COLDWORKER - Masterblaster Anders Jakobsen from grindmasters Nasum (RIP) new band. With grind still flavouring the mix, this band will definitely have more of a DM edge, with some of the demo riffs showing an almost CC influence. As tragic as it is with Mieszko Talarczyk being killed before his time, I'm glad the other guys haven't opted for early retirement and are forging ahead with some new shit. I'll definitely be buying this when it comes out...
I'd say the albums I'm getting an engorged mancumber over in anticipation of their release, would be:
Misery Index: Discordia - I went to see Misery Index recently. They only played a 30 minute set, but fuck did they cram every last drop of blood out it!!! That band really take the piss for delivering uncompromising clenched aggression & soul-raping breakdowns. You should really pay attention to those guys if you dig your Metal delivered with complete fury!
Suffocation: S/T - This will be a mandatory purchase, with no explanation neccessary.
Deicide: Stench Of Redemption - I'm looking forward to hearing the new guitar pairing of Oyster & Santolla, it'll be a refreshing change from the repetitive riffs of old. I bet it'll still be total christian bloodshed...
Strapping Young Lad: The New Black - I love everything this band have done & I heard a few pre-production tracks from this album, which just sound collossal. The end of the world is definitely nigh...
Dissection: Reinkaos - I've already pre-ordered this one from their website, it's already shaping up to be a gusher. The video for Starless Aeon is class, and I like the way they've sharpened up their sound from days of yore. I look forward to catching them on tour soon as well.
New albums I'm currently twiddling my nipples over are:
Ihsahn: The Adversary - Fucking stupendous album. As much as I love Emperor, this shit is THE SHIT!!! I can't get enough of this, and if it had a vagina, anus or even a mouth - it would get fucked... HARD!!!
Dim Mak: Knives Of Ice - Got it through in the post early last week, and it's just pure violence. John Longstreth really takes this band up a few gears and where the first two albums were recorded in bullet time, this new one is pure Jackie Chan fast-forward Fists Of Fury.
Cannibal Corpse: Kill - Sure it's nothing new, but I never expected it to be. They're a band that never let me down and deliver constantly. I look forward to catching them live soon as well.
Gnostic: (Demo) - Steve Flynn (ex-Atheist Drummer) his new band, sound quite promising from the scratch tracks I've heard. On a sidenote, it's made my fucking life to know I'll see Atheist perform on stage twice before the end of this year. Gnostic, definitely have a similar sound to the old Atheist vibe, but have a different take on writing, and I think they'll manage to create theiir own vibe in time. Definitely one to watch...

Okay, well I'll say the best for Death Metal. And you can't deny that one because so many bands are coming out with new stuff dude. But it all depends on one's taste. I could like 400 bands, and you may happen to like 2 out of the 400, so really, it all depends on the person.

I will also say I seriously doubt 2006 will even be in the top 5 or 6 years for death metal. Aside from a handfull of bands death metal has been on autopilot since about 1995.

Hey dudes, cheers for the perspectives... there are now a few more for me to investigate!
TYLER- Wassup? Nice to see yer mug around again!
I'm massively embarrased to admit this. I love all Napalm Death (even weaker albums), "World Downfall," the two megablockbuster-soundtrack Dimmu Borgir albums and At The Gates and Skitsystem...
... and I still haven't heard "Hate Breeds Suffering!" :emot-fail
Awful I know. Of Course I've known about Lock Up for ages, but couldn't find the albums anywhere. After your endorsement, I'm more determined than ever! Best Lindberg performance? Them's fightin' words, Baw!! ;)
I agree with your Coldworker outlook- I am so on this band.
Suffocation - And I was just listening to "Pierced From Within" last night...
Dissection - You're positive about the new one? Hmm, ok. I recently heard "Storm..." for the first time in ages, but "The Somberlain" is definitely me personal favourite. Great MELODIC DEATH... before the term became a musical vomitory (but not a "Vomitory," HeHe!)
Jon is talented, but also completely batshit... we all already know this. If the music is good, count me in.

Before you go a-searchin' I don't know if you're aware, but it was Pete from Hypocrisy who done vox on Pleasures Pave Sewers, but he's just totally eclipsed by Lindberg's performance on Hate Breeds Suffering. Given your love of Lindberg's vocal style, I'd say if you imagine what Terrorizer would sound like with todays production techniques with Tomas delivering his totrured pig sermon as the icing on the cake.

A lot of people will probably wont dig the new Dissection as it sounds too polished. The production is really clean and the riffs and melodies are more pronounced and staccato now. However, if you can bypass the fact that it's a totally different line-up - you'd probably hear it's for the better. I fully expect the Marduk & Morbid Angel Demo Tape Worshippers brigade to hate it.

Slayer- your avatar cracks me up everytime! Although "Hate Me" is the Darkthrone album I listen to most... I know I'm wierd! Are you excited about Abbath's new band I? I really want to hear that. I was wondering about Isahn's new one: comments please!
Tyler- Yeah I'd heard Peter had given good throat on the debut, and then Tomas on the followup. I recently read that if you are a Lock Up fan, you must get hold of their Live album recorded in Japan on tour, "Play Fast Or Die!" I think. The reviewers were all saying it is excellent, with Tomas sounding positively rabid on all the material, with the band doing their utmost to sonically demolish the venue.
Only downside is you have to look for it; I think mostly you'd have to get it online... apparently it's worth every cent, but is not cheap!
As for the Dissection: now you've made me very curious. Despit Jon being madder than a box of frogs, now I really want to hear it. Polished and gleaming, stench laden and raw... if the music is good, I enjoy all manner of production. And as for the lineup changes, well I like the fact most of the original guys went into SoulReaper; but despite some highlights, I didn't think the recent "Life Erazer" was as good as "Written In Blood." And I'm not just saying that 'cos I worship the MA demos! :D

Thanks for the tip. You got to see Lock Up live?! Lucky Bastard! Apart from Paper St., where exactly do you reside? I know that they went on a 2002/3 "Extreme the Dojo" tour of Japan with Wil Haven (who I don't know) and Converge (who I love!).
I checked their site: it seems Embo has material for the 3rd (and possibly last) album. I'm sure Tompa will be back, Barker- likely as they are such good mates, but hopefully he will have sorted himself out. Jesse- Yeah, this is where gets sticky. Even though Napalm were supportive, Jesse's excessive drinking and errant behaviour were becoming real problems, so they parted ways. I hope he's sorted himself out; he seems to be preoccupied with the "new Terrorizer," which I still am a bit iffy about.
And exactly which Terrorizer songs did they play live?

Hey! Thanks, man. I miss your scream bloody gore sig (and your whorish post count haha). "I" sounds VERY interesting. Two parts Immortal, one part Enslaved, one part Gorgoroth, and a cup of flour. Chill at Norweigan temperatures, and...ok maybe not. But still, I'd love to hear it.
As for Ihsahn's new album - it's quite varied. As much as I wish it were a new Emperor album, it isnt haha...but try your best to keep those thoughts out of your mind. This is seperate, and it's great. Really, his site gives a pretty good description of the album. It's somewhat of a culmination of his career, so it includes all sorts of textures and moods. Sometimes black metal-ish speed, sometimes things slow down to a surprisingly beautiful folk section.
Anyway, you can listen to some clips and watch a vid at www.ihsahn.com

I can't give you my exact location as there's too many people baying for my blood. (No kidding... it's hilarious!!! I post on quite a few forums and as you can imagine... my Elitist views don't go down too well among the emosexuals of this world). However, I do reside in the UK and I often travel all over the UK for gigs. I saw them on a short tour for their 1st album - I think it was Corporation 187 supporting. Lindberg done the vocals on the tour & they were a total wrecking ball the night I caught them. I think they played Dead Shall Rise & Storm Of Stress... they may actually have played Afterworld Obliteration as well as an Impaled Nazarene cover (don't ask me which one, as I don't really dig them), my memory is quite hazy as they pretty much left everyone for dead...
The last time I called Hongo, he said that they were thinking of finding a replacement for Jesse anyway, so they could tour the Hate Breeds Suffering album properly. I did tell him that it wouldn't be the same to record with another guitarist as it probably wouldn't have the same vibe, but if a tour happened with a replacement guitarist that would be cool. I also asked him about the chances of Jesse even doing another Lock-Up, and he said Jesse is pretty much wrapped up in his Terrorizer world just now. Hongo doesn't rule out any collaberation in the future as stranger things have happened, but he didn't think it would be any time soon. So I guess things are pretty much up in the air for Lock-Up...
I'm really not looking forward to this new Terrorizer album... Jesse & Pete are the only two original members doing it, and some of their plans for it are a bit ill-conceived. I don't think they realize how huge a legacy they are potentially going to destroy if they go through with it...
... I say let sleeping Grind lie...

Slayer- HaHa, I like the recipe! Gotta admit I is something I really wanna hear. It's been so long since Abbath's "dulcet tones" charmed my ears.
Tyler- Ok fair enough... I guess you're as underground as can be! Yeah, you are damn opininated BUT it's always able to discussed in an actual dialogue, if other guys are willing to be calm and rational.
"emosexuals?" Priceless. I have to use that.

Some people just can't help themselves, I doubt it will be able to match up to the legacy which the first album created.
