ten_second_infinity

nile and origin are heavier and more technical than half the bands that you listed. :emot-wors

well, technical in time change wise, is that what you're talking about? nile doesn't have a ridiculous amount of time changes like ed gein would in most of their songs. not downplayin nile at all, they're the shit, this is all imo.

Especially Arsis, wtf.

Arsis isn't technical in the way that IonD or Psyopus or whathaveyou are...not by a LOONNNG shot.

But w/e, genre tags are stupid...I'm starting to lean to the good/bad genres now haha.

I'd recommend bands like Embrace the End, With Passion, Animosity and possibly Beneath the Ashes. They have the eratic time signatures and are pretty metal but I wouldn't say they are super technical.

wtf? nile and origin are death. not tech. ugh.

anyway. Basically, Bands like Ion Dissonance and Into the Moat are quintessential examples of tech metal.

other bands I would put there

BTBAM (TSC era)
Red Chord
Psyopus
Arsis
DEP
Ed Gein
Glass Casket (maybe)
Cephalic Carnage (maybe)

Basically, when you're talking about tech metal, you're talking about bands that are generally very heavy, and don't really have any characteristics of any subgenre of metal. They tend to use a lot of time changes, and a lot of technical riffs.

It seems to me that most bands that are considered tech metal are bands that kinda wish they were death, but don't want to leave behind some of the "core" elements, and tend to either lack structure, or have an affinity for having insane structures in their songs.

i pretty much disagree with this entire post.

I definately don't agree with "Shawn." Seems like he's trying to explain a genre he has no experience with.

And... alot of people wouldn't generally know shit about "Tech Metal," or even the history behind it.

And Arsis play technical shit, believe it or not. Some stuff on celebration of guilt can easily be considered Technical Death Metal.

Atheist
Death (later era)
Theory In Practice
Pestilence
Cynic
Necrophagist
Martyr
Spastic Ink
Watchtower
Decapitated
Spiral Architect
Suffocation
Augury
Arsis
Behold...The Arctopus
!T.O.O.H!
Quo Vadis
Sleep Terror

ect...

He didn't say technical death metal... he said TECH METAL.

anyways. my view point on the subject. these bands deserve the category "tech" metal. because when i listen to them, they are not only crazy, but keep the same structure that the broad genre of metal has, some have a death influence too.
bands like conducting from the grave, cloacal kiss (props shay, i love you guys), Bodies in the Gears of the Apparatus, Despised Icon, !t.o.o.h.!, With Passion (vomit), Into the Moat (vomit), Spastic Ink (more old school though), The Concubine, The Red Chord, The Sawtooth Grin, and more.

Bands that are the more generic tech are kind of predictable but still kinda fun to listen to. lots of dissonant chords, and weird breakdowns, mixed with the dissonant chords. lame, but anyways bands like 2 o clock Girlfriend, See You Next Tuesday (thanks FASSW alex for introducing), Flesh and Blood Robot, The Locust, the #12 (vomit), and some others i cant think of are just in a more generic brand of tech. now remember this is all my opinion so don't talk shit just yet.

but bands like Psyopus, Behold...the Arctopus,, Ion Dissonance, and DEP (older stuff) in my mind deserve the title of that famous "math" core genre. i hate genres though, im just listing similar bands to me.

and bands like BTBAM, Glass Casket, Reflux, A life Once Lost, Embrace the End, Animosity, Crowpath, The Taste of Blood, Prayer for a Cleansing, From a Second Story Window, and Through the Eyes of the Dead seem to fit into a more core version of the tech genre. i don't know why, its just when i listen to them thats where they go in my head. they kinda sound alike anyways. And sometimes i think Despised Icon and The Red Chord fit more with these bands too. Maybe a little more, not sure yet.

Beneath the Massacre, Decrepit Birth, Psycroptic, Trails of Anguish, Decapitated, Gorguts, necrophagist, Origin, Cattle Decapitation, Cepharnaum, Cryptopsy, Nile, and Sleep Terror go in the genre technical death metal. cause its obviously death metal, and its also obviously technical as fuck.
