Shameless self-promotion rules!
I run a recording studio in Brooklyn:
PAINcave Recording Studio (http://paincavestudio.com)
If your band is looking for a place to record, let me know.

hey Colin, I was curious- since musician/producer (not only producing my own material, but hopefully others' music as well) is the direction I want to head in, do you easily live off the money you pull in from that? I read somewhere in an old interview you had another job working as a delivery guy or something... I know all that glory you see on tv is far from it, but as long as I'm not knee deep in debt and shit (with a bit of luxury money :P), I think I'd be happy..
(sorry if this goes under that rude-to-ask-someone-elses-income category.. dont answer if you don't want..)

i've been engineering full-time for about a year know and have been scraping by. i'd probably be doing much better financially if i didn't have so many other commitments and spent more hours working, but i'm the kind of person who tries to do everything i guess! also my rates are still super low because i've been trying to encourage business and because right now many of my clients are unsigned bands who are paying out-of-pocket.

What are your rates? Seriously, my band needs a good recording job.

yeah, col- you might want to check that home page of your site, because, I don't know if it's just me or my browser or whatever, but the menu isn't obvious, and for awhile I didn't know that it had frames since it doesn't show the scrolling arrows. :/
"studio rates
tracking / mixing: $25 per hour
mastering: $25 per song"
click the link then click your mouse wheel thing where it says PAINcave and scroll down
Yeah, the page is messed up.

I was surprised at how broad colin's recording horizon was.
Another surprise (for me) was that I was actually into those 2 electronica tunes a bit, haha. Also a bit of the Byla song, too. I was gonna check out a bit more of Stay Fucked I think, too if I remember correctly.

:D
Well I don't know how to fix it, but like I said, a temporary solution (for IE) would be just to you the mouse wheel button thingy to scroll down, but I don't think it works for Netscape.

the PAINcave website doesnt work in firefox either. Its a different problem from those other guys though. Whats wrong is that there are no scroll bars so scrolling down sucks. Also, Colin, will we ever see a recording of frantic disembowelment? I for one think that song is amazing (not that the rest of the songs arent).

the drums sound good in most the recordings, but i think you could def. use a guitar specialist.

I wish! Alas, that album was recorded when Colin was probably 5 years old.
I'm in the band Genghis Tron and Colin recorded our "Cloak of Love" E.P.

Agreed. I love his 'Black Metal (in the style of Ulver)'. Haha. Sounds exactly like Nattens Madrigal.

Man if I had the money I would totally go to New York and record a demo with colin/play fighting games at that arcade in chinatown. Out of curiousity, Are most producers such as yourself used to working with midi? I write my music in sibelius, so if I was to get something professionally recorded I would just want to record live guitar over decent midi sampled versions of my songs. (as apposed to the default shit on my computer) I'm not good enough at drums to pull off the drum parts, and recorded keyboard seems silly, since it's just midi via your fingers.
