DING DING DING!

Well we don't exactly use a drum machine, even though that's what we usually tell people. Be actually use software sequencers...and while we've experiemented in Live and Reason, our main program of choice is Fruitly Loops, or "FL Studio" as it is now called.

I was waiting for someone to make this thread so I wouldn't have to do it.

Fruity Loops seems to be a popular choice.

Yep, that's what we used for Cloak and for the new album as well.

A lot of people are surprised that we use that program because everyone thinks it sucks, but that's often because most people don't take the time to really work with it...it has an amazing amount of potential, not to mention a ton of powerful plug-ins.

Also, anything you do on FL is automatically going to suck if you use the default samples they provide you with...if you want realistic drum sounds (or anything else good for that matter), you should collect/download/steal/buy/create better samples for your drum hits.

Speaking of samples that don't come with FL, where do you guys find your drum sounds? Where can we collect/download/steal/buy such samples?

We get our samples from a ton of different sources. Hamilton used a lot of drumkit from hell samples on Cloak of Love and Michael downloads a lot of stuff off of filesharing services. For the new album we had a friend of ours give us a shit ton of really realistic drum samples.

i've been working with fruityloops for a year now and have three projects.

SU-PA-SONIKKU SUTEREO OUJOU (http://www.myspace.com/supasonnikusutereooujou)

Oh and for the people looking for custom samples/loops that don't come with Fruityloops I suggest you try www.loops.net/ (http://www.loops.net/) a lot of their loops aren't actually free...but you can find ways of ripping them off and such. YAY.
