Chuck was an amazing guy. He wrote some amazing songs. Individual Thought Patterns, Symbolic and The Sound Of Perseverance are such great albums. What are all of your opinions on Chuck? He is a great inspiration to me.
I have just found this tribute video, and it is great. It has footage of him as a child, and plenty of pics!. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlYVVoVXtRo&search=schuldiner
Check it out!
R.I.P. Chuck!

What the hell does this have to do with Atheist, except that Chuck got lots of press for some strange reason, and Atheist didn't?

I met him on the Human tour along with Paul and Sean of Cynic (now Aeon Spoke, who I run a UK fan site for).
I've got his autograph on a human sleeve and a leather jacket. Only spoke to him for a brief moment. He came across as a genuine nice guy, not the monster the press sometimes made him out to be (as in the regular line up changes in Death).
More recently I spoke to Paul Mastival about those days. We had a good hour remembering Chuck and the early 90's metal. Paul still has the upmost respect for him and the boost it gave their career in Cynic.
If you go to emptywords.org and look up the tour dates for Human in Europe, the signed sleeve is mine. :)

It's a bit like the 6 degrees game with Kevin Bacon....
Death - Human Album and tour.
Featured Paul and Sean from Cynic.
Tony Choy was in Cynic.
Tony Choy joined Atheist.
There you go. Not as many steps as the game requires... but good enough. :)

No idea what some of you guys seem to have against him, but Chuck deserved every bit of the respect he earned through the many years of hard work he put in. No, Death wasn't my ultimate, favorite band but I can't exactly blame him for having more success than, say, WatchTower (my personal no. 1).
I got to know him after flying from Seattle (which he routinely skipped on tours - who wouldn't?) to Amsterdam to finally catch them on the ITP tour. Every time we hooked up he was very cool, laid back, down to Earth, and genuinely interested in talking about just about anything at all, as well as kidding around. Great to hang out with.
My favorite Death album is Human. According to his mother, there should be an announcement soon regarding the finishing of When Machine And Man Collide, and Steve DiGiorgio seems pretty anxious to finish it in Chuck's name. The things I heard that are to appear on it, impressed me, so it would definitely be something for me to look forward to.

Death were a great band (although not my favorite), and Chuck was a great musician. Nuff said.

Both Atheist & Death were pioneers in the genre, and without them we wouldn't have the great masterpieces that we have to reflect on. I can't say I particularly like the vocals in Control Denied, glad Chuck changed the name of the band to reflect what I see as a huge change in the band. Still looking forward to hear the last of hs music though.
They're also both Florida bands, and have the aforementioned Tony Choy connection... And now they also have the tragic and untimely loss of a member. I'd say that's more than enough reason to talk about him in here.

I agree with that. Because of the whole Cynic connection, it kind of links them together a bit.
About Control Denied, I like the music but i too am not fussy on the vocals. Chuck didn't want to put it out as death because of the difference, and he knew it would upset the fans. So you have to give him respect for that. He could of just put it out as a new Death record, and gotten more hype & sales from it, but he did the right thing.

don't get me wrong, I love the music of Control Denied, it's JUST the vocals I don't like... enough of that style in the 80s... move on...

Chuck practically invented a whole entire genre. Who else can say that?
Never got to see them other than the two DVDs, but I have his autograph on my Death Fan Club Membership Card right next to my name. 'Tis very treasured.
When I got news of his passing, it hit me like a 220, because he was reported as getting better.
My fave is Symbolic. It belongs in that "perfect death metal" section. His genuine love for MUSIC is and continues to be VERY inspiring as well. Not enough people play this game for the sheer joy and love of the music. So much BS and politics now... whatever happened to music being an escape from these very things?
R.I.P. Chuck. You'll never be forgotten.
Oh, and he was ONE HELL OF A MUSICIAN!!!

Death did nothing Deathstrike, Sepultura, Celtic Frost, Sodom, Possessed and Necrovore didn't do first.
Atheist is actually good. Death is... I like some of their work. But it's not what people make it out to be. Chuck is worshipped, and because of it, better bands are denied.
Death to Chuck and his fans.

Chuck was a great guitarist, a great songwriter and a great personality. He is nearly my maininfluence in music and Death is my certain favoriteband. I couldn't throw shit at him for a million like some of you guys have done here. Though like whocares says everybody has an opinion and they all don't fit yours. Anyway, rest in peace Chuck.

Not cool.... and Death formed the same year (earlier? I'd have to check it) as Possessed and Sepultura, just because they didn't get signed first doesn't mean they didn't a huge contribution at the time.
