On this the 15th Anniversary of the death of Atheist's prodigy Bass player Roger Patterson, we wish to ask you all to throw your horns in the air one long time for him, and maybe spin "An Incarnations Dream" from U.P. in his honor, he was truly one of metal's best bass musicians ever!
We miss just as much today as we ever have. Myself(Kelly) and Steve Flynn went to visit his grave in Palmetto Florida last week, smoked a fatty and hung out with him. He would be absolutely blown away by the respect that you have all created and shown for him 15 years later! Here's to you Roger (Horns fully extended) Cheers Kelly...
See you in Europe this summer!

I was asked to post this on behalf of the band. Please, no disrespectful comments.
Lets see some horns for a well loved and missed brother in metal.

Dumb question maybe, but why specifically "Incarnation"?

guys, come on. metal heaven? the band is called ATHEIST. i am sure that roger wouldn't want his own beliefs pushed aside in favor of nice ideas about how all the musicians meet up in heaven and jam. it's a cop-out.

I would just like to say how much of an inspiration he is/was to me as a metal bassist. Definitely one of the ones that I always aspire to be like (but fail by a long-shot) and I dont know how many times I've ever slapped a guitarist in the face who says "bassists can't do shit" by popping in Piece of Time!

It's been my dream to re-enter the stream, to let carnates know what life really means, if one understands that's all i can ask, life to you is such a wretched task.
It's just lyrically appropriate, and one of his favs! cheers K

I'm currently making a school project of Atheist.
(it has to be atleast 10 page long) And on the front page
I'll put Atheist's logo + the In memory of Roger Patterson pic.

I also did a similar thread at the official Cannibal Corpse forum about Roger.

that's cool. i've done a project on Megadeth for school, and also one on the evolution of heavy metal.

Roger wherever the Hell you are I hope your having a good time and doing what you love most . You rock the world man.

It's probably the best song we ever wrote, it encompasses everything that we were, it has about 14 different parts, and it's not unlike a fucking roller coaster, and i know roger loved that song!!! THANKS FOR ASKING! CHEERS KELLY

Great minds... ;) It's been my favorite Atheist tune since the release of UP. One thing I've wondered about is if there's anything on Elements that still included Roger-related riffs/ideas/bass-doodles/whatever. The answer seems obvious, and I never got the impression - in fact to me that and Steve were two things I really missed, listening to Elements, when compared to PoT and UP. I'm still curious to hear about the creative process that resulted in Elements, compared to the first two, though.

I consider Roger's loss to be a tragedy for metal. Apparently, he was also an intelligent comrade to some very important musicians. That his loss is often overlooked suggests much of the metal community could have learned a lot from him!

wow. A post where you actually aren't shitting on a dead musician like chuck or dimebag. congrats, you just saw your first sign of growing up.

Oh wait, I was wrong. You just made a thread in the dimebag forum. I find it great that you praise roger, but stop being a fucking dick about dime and chuck. You dont like them and their music? who fucking cares. But you dont have to bash everything.

We lost a good one when Roger Patterson of Atheist died (http://www.smnnews.com/board/showthread.php?t=106397). We didn't lose anything when Chuck Schuldiner was stopped by the gods from producing another overhyped heavy metal album with thin death vocals. We missed nothing when demonic forces destroyed New Orleans for being full of crack-addicted criminals and whining privileged politicians. Of course, when Dimebag died, we lost a highly visible symbol of the incompetence of most metalheads. But that so many fail to consider that Roger Patterson was an actual music, artistic and cultural loss suggests they're all just looking for a surrogate Jesus instead of finding musicians who matter.

Death to Dimebag! Death to Chuck! Death to NOLA! Hail Roger Patterson!

15 years already, wow.
RIP dude, never met him unfortunately but he was a great guy by all accounts, and definitely one of the most talented people to ever pick up an electric instrument.
This music is timeless... you created a truly great thing there with your brothers.

Broski, you took the words right out of my fingers. I'd love to lay it on thick, but not in this thread.

On a semi-related note, I've seen so many great shows in New Orleans that it isn't funny. Some of my greatest musical memories were given life in that city. I'll be there for Ministry in May and many more for years to come.
