Does anyone know what Jon is up to now? I'd love to hear his stuff.
Don't you mean Queen?
nah, Freddie is dead so they can't get that big fat homo to rejoin.
:)
Well, you never know... Worm came back. I personally don't think Levasseur will come back, i don't see why he would, unless there is a big wad of cash for him in the deal.
Worm left and came back for financial reasons.
Jon left... for other reasons... I"m not sure why...

i hope he is playing guitar in some band as he has one of the most unique playing styles in metal......it would be a waste of talent if he had his electric twanger under his bed or in his closet... :bonk:

Ah, this topic. Here goes...
Yes, I would love Jon to come back but remember, he told us all that after making such great extreme music with friends for over 10 years, he wanted to step back, lay low, perhaps investigate other musical avenues. it's sad that he left, but I have to respect his decision and the classy way the band wished him well. As LW put it, once a member of Cryptopsy, Always a member.
Yeah, I will fucking buy any solo/project album puts out, be it some band, blues or jazz. Next to Robert Smith of The Cure for indie/alt, Jon is my fave metal guitarist... whenever I say that to most guys here, they're like "Who?!" If I have to hear about Alexi from Children of Bodom one more time...
:toilet:
I like OUR! Alex's style, he's a great player, with his OWN (Ba-da-bish!!) style. I'll admit it, I would love to have seen Dan Mongrain join full time. But Respect to him and Martyr.
I've been euphoric to see Suffocation regroup and nomads like Anders Bjorler, Adrian Smith, Rob Barrett and David Vincent return to the bands that I loved them in.. can't deny I wouldn't be overjoyed if Jon CHOSE to do the same. Y'know: he one day decides he misses it (the music not the money, but I respect having to make a living), has a longing to return to DM and comes back. He and the band regroup, do some fucking shows (and I get to see them this time, Ha!) and they comfortably start writing the next album.. and we all live, happily ever after...
well, that's my fantasy.
I'm gonna end off by saying- If Jon doesn't want to return, I WOULD like Cryptopsy to find a PERMANENT second guitarist/member/songwriter that can complete the band, making them whole again. Maybe someone from the many great DM bands of the Quebec scene?
It's a very traditional view of a band, but that's my two cents.

A-Ha, I knew you had it in for me for some reason!!
My family is South African, but we have a division in Sydney. I watch cricket from time to time; most of family here root (not literally, Ha!) for the Ozzies to wallop the SA team. I will say most Australian commentators seem to appoint themselves as the official experts on EVERYTHING!
While he is talented, Shane Warne often seems like the biggest Poes on the planet... maybe it's his highlights? He needs a bloody cricket bat violently shoved into his chocolate swamp!
Before you say I'm a patriot, I think Graeme Smith is a poes also... goddam, did you see his ex-girlfriend, the model... forget if it was Minki VanDer Westhuizen or Kerri Magregor. Anyway, they both need carnal gravity blasts from yours truly! :emot-yum:
Herschelle Gibbs is also a fucking Rock: I had the "pleasure" of being a junior in the same high school as him, and he was a five star asshole.
I'll have to get back to you on this, but my fave Australian export would have to be Elle Macphereson... Jesus Christ! She needs to put the weight back on though, change the athletic look back into curves, and what curves when they are there!! :jerkoff1f But seriously she's hot and beautiful.
This also goes for Dame Edna Everidge! :D

It would be cool if he come back in a few years with fresh ideas. He left because the music wasn't so interessting for him anymore. So maybe he takes a break for a few years, gets new inspiration from other styles of music and then rejoins with a new fresh ideas.
i heard he got pretty skinny towards the end...
That's what Anally-Injected Death Syndrome will do for you.

nice thoughts :wavey:
Persoinally, as much as I know it sounds rather xKerrangXCorex to pick favourite members of a band UNIT, so long as Flo doesn't leave and Cryptopsy stay definatively Cryptopsy.... then I can't complain really.

Alpha - That's a good thought. Maybe it can happen...
Surt - I totally concur, forgive me. Apart from being a talented Mofo, Jon had been part of the Cryptopsy songwriting core since BMF, so most fans would find it very strange to think of him not being there. Fear not, Cryptopsy is one of those bands in which every member gets maximum respect from me!
Oh, and :flipoff: Kerrrapp! Only good for photos, and that's it. Any *cough cough* "underground extreme" info it has is lifted from writers and publications that actually give a shit.
Flu - Thanks dude, you're welcome! :beerchug: Now, time for some Suffocation!

Yeah Surt I've heard that Zero Tolerance is very good. Terrorizer can have good stuff but often the writers can be VERY Jingoistic and condescending: if it's not British then it's hackneyed, formulaic, unoriginal blah blah blah :asleep:

Flu- Sorry dude! I forgot to say thank you for the compliment. :icon_redf You're welcome: I've obviously thought about the Jon topic a lot.
I do think that the point that unless the band goes into a real decline (not gonna happen I think) over the next album or two, there might not be a need to court Jon, is a reasonable one. If of course he feels rejuvenated and wants to come back.. :)
As far as the point that financial compensation would add weight to enticing him back... well, I'm a-ok with that. Moreso than any other genre, metal bands can reform but stand a real chance of coming up with something worthwhile.
Remember the Metallian interview where LW said Flo asked him what he was up to on Sat. night, and he knew where this was going.
Jon and Eric also came along and they pitched him. On the money point, both Flo and Jon said they had their own houses... for a fucking brutal DM band, that is something!
And from what I hear about their current tour and merch action, this band is reaping the success it rightly deserves!
Jon, are you out there?!

In Vermis Veritas...Wow!! Thanks for all the thoughts. I was, at first, disappointed in the guitar work on the album but since listening to it 50000000000000000000 times I have realized the guitar work is broad. Alex does everything and he does it well. Very diverse player. The new album is my "new" favorite. I even enjoy it more than ATYB and NSV. They have reinvented their sound and further defined the death metal genre. The cool thing about the cryptopsy albums is each one is unique and I enjoy each one depending on my mood...................
they have reinvented their sound
amen to that... i'm fed up of people trying to make out Cryptopsy have created a new "poorness" just because the sound has evolved again...
fuck, I'd not listened to Cryptopsy for a long time till i heard Carrionshine for the first time which completely OWNED me, made me dig out None So Vile again and reaffirm my love for the band.

As always I'm proud to be a part of the Cryptopsy Crew! :1pirate: Great to chat with fans of extreme music WITH brains and a shred of humanity (dare you to find that in a crowd of teenage hardcore wannabe's)
Alpha- Agreed. Once I'd returned to metal properly and my best bud steered me around the extreme underground, I made my way to Cryptopsy. NSV is a classic record that to me is 10 years YOUNG; it's as fresh as it was and a standard for brutal DM. Their debut proper was in '94. This may be a blunt wave of seeing it, but I saw them as part DM's Second Wave, along with luminaries such as Nile, Hate Eternal, Vile and others. Faster, more brutal, technical, extreme. These bands actually set a new template for the current DM bands like those on UL. Glad to see Cryptopsy is reaping rewards and retaining integrity.
Flu & Surt- Right on. Glad to see fans are finding OWN a rewarding listen. Perhaps I still think the guitar could use the tiniest bit more beef (and Eric's bass), but I cannot complain... it was one of the megahighlights of last year for me. I don't wanna see them rush out an album next year like is common these days... but less than 5, eh lads? :emot-boun
Flu- I'd normally say you're nuts for listening to me, but your welcome. Cryptopsy is one of those bands to me that even a non-perfect album will have a fair amount to commend it. And your choice in album to listen to can constantly shift; for a good long while, I could not stop playing ATYB- and this was when most dudes shat on it for Mike and the more insane progressive, Latin/Jazz flavours they incorporated, which I thought were awesome.
Actually seeing a more restrained voting for fave album and the choices, I'm right now focussing on WS which is definitely a firm favourite amongst fans. And I am still a devoted LW acolyte, but I always liked Mike's different approach. Listening to NSL has also put me in the mood to hear Martin in Covenance.
Surt- EXACTLY! Listening to the challenging new album made me revisit all my beloved old albums (which I hadn't listened to in ages to build anticipation; this was a challenge!) and see it as a continuation of their amazing musical development... incorporating new bold ingredients while also returning to some of the vicious slavering DM of BMF. It was so cool to fall for the band again. Marvellous!! :D

Still gotta get NSL...Good? Are the songs faster than the album? That would be cool!
It's worth buying just for Flo's Drum Solo in itself! I usually get bored with drum solo's, but Flo is a whole different ballgame. He just commands your attention...

At the beginning of this thread I posted "Jon Levasseur PLEASE come BACK!!!!!!!!!!"
I have had a change of heart after listening to the new album over and over. I have all the technical metal classics-gorguts, watchtower, cynic, death, ect. but the new albums guitar work threw me because it was so out there (different). Alex has outdone himself and I spoke prematurely. PLEASE FORGIVE ME LORD WORM!!!!

I wonder if your heart will change yet again after hearing the next album... (if there is one). Alex definitely did play a blinder, but he didn't write the majority of the music for Once Was Not, only performed the music written by Jon Levasseur. Alex is a very competent guitarist, but everything is still up in smoke as to whether their next album will be, 'Cryptopsy'... or sub-standard death metal...

What do you mean? Maybe Alex can play but can't write? or something else? :emot-look
