Man, I'll never forget that. I was still caught in thrash at the time. I was with my best mate/metal source in the mobile and he put a tape in the deck, said he had just fallen in love with this Canadian band Cryptopsy. I was just starting to listen to really brutal metal and finding my way around, so I was hesitant. He cranked the car's system, told me to brace myself. And then it hit me:
DEAD AND DRIPPING
:emot-eek:
Fucking hell, It scared the shit out of me, it was too much, simply inhuman. The riffs, solo, drumming, vox. I was like "Man, that's insane!" That was pretty much all I could say whenever he played Cryptopsy.
Fast forward to when I had gotten up to ultra-brutal-DM speed, and upon revisiting Cryptopsy, it was magic never looked back since.
What was the first moment that you heard Cryptopsy like for you? What was THE first track of theirs that you heard?
Ah, sweet memory!! :)

The first time I heard Cryptopsy was August 2001. I was 17 years old and was about to buy my first car. I had purchased None So Vile on a whim(and At the Gates Gardens of Grief/Grotesque Reissue split). I remember I had a pretty crappy day at work only to find out the douchebag sold the car to someone else when I got home, leaving me irate. The only shit I had to vent to was NSV....The rest is history.

I'd heard of the band Cryptosy from magazines and stuff for maybe three years. I bought NSV from the earache webstore because it was generally highly thought of.

it was when NSV came out. i was at a metal shop. i told the guy who owned it that i was into very fast extreme technical metal. he said "i bet you love cryptopsy!!" i said "never heard um.." He popped in NSV and I bought it on the spot.............................that was a good day.....my buddy thought it was crap!!! HA!! :emot-pret
I bought 'None So Vile' when I was first getting into the wider DM scene (ie after having already looked into bands like Morbid Angel, Napalm Death, Death etc..) probably about 4/5 years ago, and about the only thing I can remember about when I first heard it was, aside from the fact i was expecting it to instantly make my ears bleed the moment it started (which threw me when that roar thing kicked in), I couldn't listen to it any time I tried to for fuck knows how long as it was just too much for me to handle...
Came back to it about a year and a half or two years later - rather oddly after having forgotten about it, only to be sat on a friends patio with a group of mates drinking, and hearing what sounded like a pretty awesome music play, impressed by it, so i looked to see what it was and it turned out it was 'None So Vile', and pretty much kicked myself for not having gotten into it earlier...

First time I heard Cryptopsy was when I got back from HMV in London and went to a band practice, the drummer had bought and then you'll beg... he put it on when we took a break and we were all like... yep. fuckin' a!

On a Idenity Century Media sampler, the song "White Worm", which is still one of my favorite songs.
I miss those samplers, when I was 13-14, its how I discovered so many great bands...

the first time I really listened to cryptopsy must be about 3 years ago, when a former buddy introduced me into the none so vile. I liked the artwork of the cd, but at that time cryptopsy was ways to complexe for my musical mind, so I kept em in mind and continued listening to stuff like gorerotted. :dot1:

Im almost positive Crown of Horns was the first real death metal song I ever heard. I was like, "what the fuck is this shit?" i think a little while after that i started to get into cannibal corpse and shit, and eventually cryptopsy, until i realized that i had heard crown of horns before. crown of fuckin horns! \m/

That's the first Cryptopsy song I heard too. I hated it at first, but then I checked out more brutal stuff. I was still into the Swedish melodic thing at the time. I checked out Cryptopsy around 3-4 years ago, and now I play None So Vile every day of my life. I love the riffing on the whole thing.

I believe this was the second Cryptopsy song I heard. Before that I had randomly downloaded "Cold Hate, Warm Blood". I bought WS soon after but it was too much for me to handle for quite some time. I remember thinking that the guys were definitely talented, but couldn't write a song for shit!! What a difference in perspective once you understand what technical metal is all about...

Damn, everyone here has known them way longer than me, I first heard Cryptopsy by downloading "The Pestilence That Walketh In Darkness" and "Adeste Infedelis" off of Blabbermouth and thought it was pretty killer. I bought And Then You'll Beg a few weeks later at a used CD store and have been hooked since.
"Slit Your Guts" was sent to me by a very good friend of mine. A year and a bit later I bought None So Vile...

Man, it's awesome to read all these great moments- thanks guys! I especially like Cryptopsy always fuck up the listener who crawls away, begging for the merciless assault to stop. But always come back, then are eventually ready
and just cannot get enough! When I got into them properly I was also checking out my buddy's copy of the mini-album by Intervalle Bizarre! I obviously wanted to be crushed!
Ah, such great times. Listening to BMF over and over, my buddy and I quoting lyrics, doing LW impressions.. sigh!
And yes, I remember the CM sampler with "White Worms." I miss those, a good way to investigate great stuff... and fair amount of equine mudslide too.
Iced - good stuff man. Everyone has their own way of discovering something: right on!
I love a wide range of music (I'm not gonna go into the other genres in case shit starts flying) but IMO metal is the one music style in which one can "advance", listen to more brutal stuff, but then revisit other aspects of the style and not differentiate. Y'know... hmm, I'm gonna listen to some of Spawn of Possession and Cryptopsy, then some Napalm Death followed by Sonata Arctica.. perhaps some CC and Iron Maiden, Dismember. The freedom to do this is one of the things I love most about metal.
It's all good... well, except current In Flames! Sorry chaps, couldn't resist! ;)

The first song i heard is Graveaged (a cryptopsy) from ungentel exhumation, when the scream came in the begginning of the song i fell in love! Holy shit i was fucking happy when i heard that song. I think its about 4 and half year since i heard that song.

At a LAN party, when i asked my mate what was a good album.
And he said "anything by cryptopsy" so i grabbed non so vile and blasphemy made flesh off him, and i later bought all there albums.
I thought the drumming was amazing, i thought the soloing etc was a bit "meh" imo as i was sorta into alot of progressive stuff at that time, but it grew.
That pretty much got me into all the other bands i like today.

I walked in HMV on the Gold Coast (AUS) and saw WS on the shelf, asked the dude to let me listen to it....all it took was about 2 mins of Emaciate to realise what i had been listening to, was after that point non exsistent....and still is . . . .

I picked up Blasphemy made Flesh back in the day (Invasion Records, Germany version) - I despised the vocals & still do to this day, but I was hooked on the music & picked up each release as it surfaced. I often think it would be interesting if Cryptopsy released instrumental versions of their albums...

I had just moved to Florida from Maryland and was really into bands like Cannibal Corpse and Morbid Angel so one guy burned "...And then You'll Beg" and i was fucking shocked. To this day i have never heard a band pull off such brutality while still remaining mind-blowingly technical.

My friend had made me a mix of a bunch of death metal bands about 5 years ago, I was only 11, and had just started to get into the whole death scene. I popped it in and the first thing i heard was a big roar(Crown of Horns) I was like, wtf? I had recognized it from the exorcist 3 movie, and it was fucking cool! I hadn't even heard the guitars come in yet, and i loved it, then the drums, guitars, and Lord Worms high as fuck pitched screams started beating the shit out of my speakers!!! And ever since then......

when i was fifteen.was mainly into cannibal corpse and the likes and one of the mates bought NSV.had it in boarding school on a tape three times.had to change sides while graves of our fathers was on its second spin and got as far as lichmistriss with the third spin.used to listen to it every fucking evening.has remained my favourite death metal album that not much has even came close to in the last six years.saw them for the first time about two weeks ago and was pretty much let down.five old songs and all the new album bar two songs.what a fucking shitty set.prefectly executed though. tight as a ducks hole in water.

First time I heard them was when I was talking to guys in a local band who opened for them in Halifax a number of years ago. First song I heard was "Cold Hate, Warm Blood" and I loved it. I immediately ran out to a music store and bought "None So Vile" and its been a regular in my stereo ever since. (And yes, I'm aware "Cold Hate" isn't on NSV)

The first shit by Cryptopsy I ever heard was Whisper Supremecy. I had never even heard a song by them, until I bought that album. I keep reading about them, and seeing them everywhere. Finally, I couldn't ignore the tremendous respect that everyone in death metal gave them. I bought WS, and it blew my fucking head off.
At first, I didn't know what to think. It was so obscure and so unlike any metal I had previously listened to, that I had to listen to WS about 3 times all the way through for it to sink in.
I've been a big fan ever since. I try to pimp Cryptopsy to anyone who likes metal that I know. Even though some will not be able to meld with their extreme style, everyone who hears them is blown away with the sheer talent and brutality that they bring to the table.
