Hey all, new to the forum. I am new to Cryptopsy as well, let me know where to start.

What's up dude? All I can say is: you're in for a treat. If you like your death metal ridiculously brutal, fast and technical, combined with uniformly excellent songwriting and creativity, you've come to the right place. Naturally I'm biased- CRYPTOPSY are gods! :emot-wors

This is my opinion, but I reccomend starting with their fantastic debut '94s "BLASPHEMY MADE FLESH," like I did. The production is very underground.. I'm fine with this as it means you can really crank the album. With this debut Cryptopsy established themselves on the DM scene, emerging as one of the most potent bands in a genre that was getting even more insane and brutal. They also continued the tradition established by Voivod, highlighting that Quebec metal has it's own unique bizarre, sinister identity.

Then prepare yourself for their magnum opus imo the legendary "NONE SO VILE!" Words fail me. To me, it doesn't get much better than this: today this record is considered a death metal classic, and rightly so!
This album also has the members that compose their classic lineup to me... of course with any Cryptopsy member, you're listening to a superb musician. Some Differ on this front (Hi Tyler! :p ) but Lord Worm contributes a DM performance of a life time here: pure demented vocal sewage and dementia with lyrics displaying a beyond-morbid perversity and wit matched by few, if any. Drummer Flo Mournier: simply put, if you don't know who this man is yet, listen to the fucking album. Apparantly he has quite a rep, almost as good as Lars Ulrich... ;)
Guitarist Jon Levasseur is simply the fucken man here, as he continues to be. A murderous, creative, musical force, pure and simple. He is still my fave metal guitarist. He has left Cryptopsy now, but listen to the first four albums and be amazed. Once you're familiar with the albums, listen to the great live album "None So Live," on which the Montreal fiends are on top of their game. Jon devestates along with guitarist (now lead guy) Alex Auburn who joined on the "And Then You'll Beg" album.
NSV also has some of my fave DM bass work thanks to the mighty Eric Langlois who joined on the album. He is furious, using nuts slaps and pops as if Satan was a member of Funkadelic! An amazing player.

*phew*Ok, I'm sure the other guys will give you good advice on your dark journey- enjoy!

Welcome To Hell. :FIREdevil

He eats worms on stage.

Oh that's cool. I was hoping you weren't from West Bakersfield. I'm from Tulare Union. And obviously, after the valley game, we really don't like each other.

Oh that's cool, why were you hoping I wasn't from West Bakersfield?

Look at the bottom of my post. They talked shit during baseball too. But yeah, if Cryptopsy toured Cali, that'd be sick. Especially if they toured with Decrepit Birth and Deeds. I'd cry like a little girl.

No West does. And I know about the other tour, but I would like to see them play with Deeds and Decrepit. Who wouldn't? And you guys kick ass in baseball. We played like two years ago, and we got killed. And I'm just being sarcastic about West man. I don't take shit personally, but I'm damn sad about that valley game in football.

Sorry to butt in guys... my dad played baseball for a club but obviously cricket is big here:
AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! !!! :hbang32en

Cricket is hard man. I tried it once with friends. Probably weren't playing right, but it's a lot harder than baseball. And that's the coolest intro ever imo. None So Vile is a classic death metal album, that I think anyone into extreme music will enjoy.

In Vermis Veritas
02-02-2006, 03:30 AM
Heheh, I know what you mean! Cricket is so damn slow, baseball moves a lot faster. I always remember our coach would treat us in Phys Ed. at high school by getting out the baseball equipment. Playing that game kicks ass!

Yes for a sample intro, that is one of the all time best... it's eerie, almost as if Cryptopsy knew how good they were and were about to unleash on of the best DM albums of all time.
A bud and I rented "Exorcist III" which contains the sample. A decent horror movie with some nice atmos, but of course is not a patch on the stunning original, which is one of the best films PERIOD. As soon as the possessed priest finishes the line, we started headbanging!! We musta looked kinda silly, thank fuck no one else was there! ;)

I hope ur talking about rep...
coz flo > lars by like 10000x
its like kirk hammett aswell....hes only got a good rep coz 12 yr olds think metallica is the best of everything and fail to listen to anything else....it ruined my brothers guitar playing.

So how is everyone?

In Vermis Veritas
02-21-2006, 03:49 AM
Cacophany- Yeah dude of course I'm joking. Sorry to hear about your bro's playing; get him listening to some Anders Brorler, Effe Cederlund, Trey Azagthoth, Jack Owen/Rob Barrett and Jon Levasseur riffing stat!! Metallica is the one band so dishonourable that I can't even bring myself to listen to the older albums which I enjoyed when I was younger. the two best members (certainly in humility and integrity) are now both gone- Cliff is rocking and banging in that great gig in the sky and Jason is pursuing his own happiness in VoiVod.
I admire bands making terrific success of what they love, but Metallica don't even have the decency to sell out properly!! You'd think some coked up exec would tell Lars "Look L that old fashioned metal-buttrock bullshit is coming back in again and popular with your dumbfuck fans across the globe... we should organise a tour with some of those lame bands!"

As awful as that sounds I could actually, almost as a cosmic joke, go see a Metallica super show (of old songs) with Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Nuclear Assault, Queensryche... of course I'd like Lars to be struck down with the clap and Dave Lombardo drafted in again to play drums again. Damn, that must have been the tightest show that band ever played... Dave probably fell asleep behind the kit. Him notwithstanding, all those bands would blow Metallica the fuck off the stage.
I just had another crazy thought... Metallica touring (with Dave) with relatively younger acts... HammerFall!!! Dudes, I love it I'd see that shit.
Unfortunately, we know that Metallica are too selfish to ever support their fans. And to think this was the band that inspired The Crown!!! (RIP) :(

0507- I'm very well my man, hope you're good. Busy at work, but it's not too shabby. The cash has been very useful as loads of metal discs I've ordered are now arriving! :emot-droo Marvellous! It's the best reason to work: buy metal yourself and don't beg your family!
On the rock side I'm listening to my old singles disc of The Smiths and for metal I'm just loving "the Hematobic EP" by Aborted. Those sick cunts, to me, are one of the best. "Gestated Rabidity" was such a cert for the following album. I'm very impressed with their cover of "Drowned." They stay true to the spirit of the Entombed original but add their own unique feral flavour to it... and some hyperblasts! :yel1:

Do you guys believe it is ok for Christians to listen to Cryptopsy?

InvoluntarySlaughter
02-26-2006, 11:36 PM
Haha! Yeah, if they don't take the lyrics seriously. If they do, well, then they'll hate Lord Worm, and wish eternal damnation on him. In all seriousness dude, it doesn't matter what you believe in, if you like the music, then you like that music. I don't let death metal lyrics effect my beliefs at all. I believe in God, and Jesus, and all that. I don't particularly practice Christianity like they say to. I don't like getting involved with church, due to the fact that they all gave me shit when I had hair down to my armpits, and started a whole bunch of rumors about the pastor that was there. Like he had cancer, he was cheating on his wife, that's why she left. Basically lie after lie. And I'm going to sit in a church with these people, hell no. I hate people who judge you. Most Christians are hypocrites, and think their shit doesn't stink, because they're in the business part of church. And I've always kept my beliefs to myself, unless someone asked me what I believe in. The majority of my friends are in fact Atheists. And I'm a very unusual "believer" if you will, because I do all of my reading of the bible, and research on my own time by myself. I don't feel that I have to go to church in order to be "saved." Especially when the church is full of hypocrites. And "confessions" in Catholicism is pointless imo, I don't tell people that though. If you believe in God, you don't have to go through some radom person in church to pray/apolgise/save your ass to God. I'd hate for someone to get my personal information, and tell someone in town, and then it gets to someone else, and someone else. But, damn, didn't mean to right this much, but dude, don't let people tell you what to listen to, and definitely anyone involved with religion that judges you, ask them what the meaning of life is, and what Jesus' reason for life was. And I'm pretty sure that not passing judgement is a big one. Later bro!

thanx for not bashing them dude!

Yeah churches are quite annoying, i'm lucky i have a church full of metal heads and like the bands i do etc, and i can get good answers from them.

I'm not really gonna condemn someone for what they say and what they beleive in! thats just wrong, as long as they don't start like hurting christians for no reason, or like bash my family or go at me personally then why should i hate them.
Lord worm is a legend, and where does it say in the bible, where i can't make fun of the gutting up the human body. Well it maybe does somewhere, but i can make the bible say anything :P

I listen to full blown "evil" bands, and it has not once effected my views on life, it's changed my music, i like music coz it's music, i don't take lyrics way to seriously....coz i'm a guitarist. But most people i've met in my mums church are bitches and complain about it "going listen to this instead" why should i?
when the music sucks......
i'm friggin hate when christians tell me listen to one sort of music because its not evil or whatver?
i can make music say whatever the hell i want if i wanted, it's just a stereotype. i can make acoustic guitar ballads go "i want to sodomise jesus and stick a cross in ass" if i wanted to.
But since people make some stereotype of most metal bands being satanists, have :
a) never listened to metal and just associate screaming with satan. (like that teacher in my old school)
b) never met any metal bands.
c) have shitty parents, who are hella strict.

But there is a great christian metal scene, but just because they beleive in something you don't doesn't mean you can't check them out! coz most of the time, they never preach to you or go on about how your sinner and need to repent.
They have some really good stuff, like extol, lengsel, vaakendring , synnove...not just p.o.d *sigh*

anyways thats my 2 cents :P, never quite reached what i wanted to say properly but oh well.

I believe it's ok for Christians to listen to whatever they want to...
I was raised Anglican; I didn't have some violent falling out with religion but there some things I couldn't endorse so I drifted away. Believe whatever you want, but the second you start trying to push others into submission and force your views on them and perpetuate intolerance and lack of reason (as seen right now in the world): I want no part of it!

Hmm, you could try showing some devout Christians the lyrics to "Swine of the Cross" and "Benedictine Convulsions!" :devilange Sure they'd like that...

Yeah dude, I completely agree with everything you said. I will go to say that I'm a christian, due to my beliefs, but there's always a...sorry for the gay ass analogy...but there's always a rotten apple that ruins the bunch. Religion has changed so much since it's started. Yeah, and as for Christian bands, you have Crimson Thorn, Mortification, Antestor (for those who like black metal, which is like an oxymoron), and there's others. But I love reading like really apocalyptical, evil lyrics dude. Revelations is the most interesting part of the bible by far, and if you read the lyrics to Decrepit Birth - ...And Time Begins, those are awesome lyrics. As well as Beheaded - Ominous Bloodline. Very apocalyptical and sick. Lyrics like Worms are cool too. His are very poetic in a sick and twisted way, but it's all good. And Death's/ Chuck's lyrics were awesome. My views on religion are very similar to his. As long as no body gets hurt by it, I'm cool with it. But I hate when people force things on you.

Yeah, it's the way you have to live life pretty much. People are really closed minded. And people that are satanists, and say that religion was forced on them, so they're going to hate all Christians and Jesus are just as hypocritical and closed minded as everyone else. I guess what I'm trying to say is, is that no one is perfect, no one is better than the other, no matter your income or whatever, and don't try to be the most perfect person in the world, because thinking that you are perfect is making you impure. Also, for those that follow religion, and/or believe, here's something of interest: In revelations, it says that the harlot is going to kill or convert all infidels, do you guys realize what's going on in Europe and the middle east right now? We could be living through that shit!
