Your fave UNIQUE LEADER bands? Current and Alumni

One of the best DM labels going. The first band I heard from them was Psycroptic, then Beheaded and Spawn Of Possession. My knowledge of Label bosses Deeds Of Flesh is very general.

Which UL bands and present do you endorse? Which of the ones that I don't know do you reccomend checking out and how would you describe their sound? Remember you're Cryptopsy fans so I trust ya!

This especially goes for Decrepit Birth, please tell me about em, should I get the debut? I saw that their one guitarist posts on here: Beers and Horns to you from SA dude!

The number one is definately Disgorge. The ones that come very close to that are: Psycroptic, SoP, Gorgasm, Mortal Decay (but not anymore!) and Decrepit Birth.

How are bands like Odius Mortem and Pyaemia?
I personally found Odius Mortem a little overrated with the only real high point being KC Howard (Decrepit Birth)'s drumming. Pyaemia on the other hand.... well, 'Cerebral Cereal' is fucking mandatory to ANY self-respecting death metalhead IMO.

Yes, Brutus (another UL band, sick too) also tune to G. Mortician do as well, but who cares. I think Intense Hammer rage tune to F# (no surprises there).

No, I don't care about labels per se. I DO give a fuck when I know one has a good pool of great DM to offer eg. Earache, before they started to fuck over all the bands which estableshed it.

I don't know exaclty which bands are on Unique Leader but out of the bands you guys mentioned my favorite one is definitely PSYCROPTIC who is actually one of my favorite bands ever. Matt Chalky [the former vocalist] was a genius. Soemtimes i think "The Colour Of Sleep" from The Scepter Of The Ancients cd is the best Death Metal song ever.

Seriously for a moment, even though I went through a shitty breakup, I don't have real misogynist leanings: like most DM fans and bands, it's all extreme horror-based fantasy of the sickest kind! I believe this applies to Gorgasm too.

Any woman better be grateful a dude doesn't think of her while listening to Waco Jesus! The music is brilliant and brutal, but fucking hell: you can't deny the feeling that the main songwriter in that band means every sentiment they spew! "Kicked You In the Cunt," "Blast You In Your Face With my Semen, Blast You In the Face With My Fist" and "Fag Basher" are such lovable gems.
My bud in the UK actually picked up the first album at the Cryptopsy gig... with the original cover, with all the scat shots! :toilet: = :jerkoff1f

Dudes be happy for me. Gorgasm's "Masticate To Dominate" finally arrived, and it is fucking BRILLIANT. Brutal, catchy and relentless all the way through. Excellent release by a potent band.

And the lyrics.. jeezus. It's been a long time since DM lyrics blew my hair back. Don't get me wrong, I love subtle and abstract lyrics (those on OWN) but this was blunt as hell, fucken sick! :emot-puke Never, ever let a woman read these. Love it!!

I don't think I've ever seen a Unique Leader band's advertisment in any magazine or any website i've looked on other than that particular bands' website, and apparently UL don't give them any tour support & the bands are left to pretty much sort their own tours out from what i hear.... so I can't say it sounds like certain bands - ie Pyaemia for example- have risen to the levels they have thanks largely to the label.


Hell, Defeated Sanity are on a relatively unknown and very small UK independent label in comparison to most American death & brutal death labels, yet they've still managed to get a well-rounded profile.

Many of those bands that you list as faves, or that got "snatched" recently, were total unknowns until UL signed them up.
Gorgasm weren't "total unknowns", they'd released what some people regard to be an awesome album - if not their best perhaps - 'Bleeding Profusely' before they even signed to UL.

Same for Disgorge from what i recall, who've been and gone.

That's probably because they don't see advertising as a value for money proposition. Since they work predominantly on distro work, they put most of their effort in distribution; getting their products physically out there in the field.

For a label their size, I must admit that I have seen a surprising number of their bands at fest and tours, especially considering many are US-based bands. Label support for live shows/tours is always a touchy subject and many (most?) labels put no guarantees that they will provide these to their artists.

Um, actually moreso on the messageboarsd I go on on the internet such as the Decrepit Birth one to name one.... I only know of about 4 or 5 people offline that have heard of Defeated Sanity.

Hell, Taka from Vomit Remnants had a DS shirt when they played here...

My point still remains though, I really don't think that the popularity of bands that are/have been on Unique Leader is by and large due to Unique Leader's purported help. The vast majority of them have either already been popular or have gained popularity thru their music as opposed to label promotion/pimping.
