THE CONTORTIONIST ANNOUNCE NEW TOUR DATES With REVOCATION, FALLUJAH & TOOTHGRINDER

THE CONTORTIONIST have announced a heavy hitting headline run with notable acts REVOCATION, FALLUJAH and TOOTHGRINDER in support. Dates will start on February 7th in their hometown of Indianapolis and wrap up in Newport, KY on February 28th after covering much of the eastern half of the U.S. “We’re excited to hit the road with all these amazing bands and play a ton of epic shows,” says vocalist Mike Lessard. “We couldn’t think of a better way to start our 2015!”

Primordial Sound was Corey Norman’s second directorial effort for the band and depicts the band in an ultra minimalist, stripped down state. Norman also directed “Language I: Intuition” released earlier this year. The Contortionist released Language in September to some high critical acclaims. Popular alternative weekly The Aquarian says the LP “keeps up with this idea of call and response between spacey ambient melodies and heavy-hitting metal tunes all the way through its 48-minute run.” Outburn Magazine calls it “a richly layered, atmospheric, and evocative record” and Substream Magazine goes as far to say that “What The Contortionist has given us isn?t space travel but a journey through a dream state.” in their 5/5 review.

The band just wrapped up a highly successful run with PROTEST THE HERO in Europe.

EXHUMED: Gore Metal: A Necrospective 1998 – 2015 To Be Released This February; Massive North American Tour With Napalm Death + Voivod Announced

Originally released in 1998, EXHUMED’s now-classic debut full-length, Gore Metal, was a boundary defying offering of filth-ridden, grinding, over-the-top death-metal. Unrepentantly fast, furious and maniacal, Gore Metal gleamed with a delightful audio repugnance bedecked in blazing riff infiltrations, slasher-film-inspired lyrics and vile cover art. It was the record that made Carcass seem PG-rated by comparison and thus certified itself as a true underground classic.

Not content to let the album rot away, EXHUMED returned to the studio almost two decades later to re-record the landmark offering. The resulting Gore Metal: A Necrospective 1998 – 2015, set for release this February via Relapse Records, maintains the maniacal ferocity of the original recordings while adding depth to the sonic devourment thanks in no small part to years of touring and a vastly improved-sounding recording quality.

Proclaims vocalist/guitarist Matt Harvey: “I’m super pumped that we got the chance to re-record Gore Metal. I don’t think any of us were happy with how it turned out the first time around, so getting another shot at it meant a lot to me personally. I was also really excited to have our old friend Ross Sewage reprise his vocals on the new version, ensuring that it still sounds like that era of EXHUMED, though things are a lot more audible this time around!”

Gore Metal: A Necrospective 1998 – 2015 Track Listing:
1. Necromaniac
2. Open The Abscess
3. Postmortem Procedures
4. Limb From Limb
5. Enucleation
6. Casket Crusher
7. Death Mask
8. In My Human Slaughter House
9. Sepulchral Slaughter
10. Vagitarian II
11. Blazing Corpse
12. Deadest Of The Dead

As a precursor to the release, the perpetual road warriors in EXHUMED, currently terrorizing Europe alongside Aborted, Origin and Miasmal, will embark upon a massive North American live takeover next year with co-headliners Napalm Death and Voivod. Set to commence on January 27th in Miami, the band will raze nearly three-dozen megalopolises, with the infiltration coming to a close on February 28th in Houston. Additional support will be provided by Iron Reagan and Black Crown Initiate with Ringworm, Dayglo Abortions, Theories and Phobia to appear on select performances throughout the trek. ENSIFERUM: Finnish Folk Metal Collective To Release New Full-Length This February

Finland’s favorite folk metal collective and recent Metal Blade signees, ENSIFERUM, will unleash their sixth studio album this Winter. Titled One Man Army, the predominantly analog-recorded offering was tracked between September and November of this year with award-winning producer Anssi Kippo (Children Of Bodom, Impaled Nazarene, Entwine etc.) at Astia-Studios in Lappeenranta, Finland.

Elaborates ENSIFERUM bassist/vocalist Sammi Hinkka of the sessions, “The recording process was long, hard, rewarding and full of incredible moments. Instruments were actually played and left as they were instead of creating tracks from hundreds of different takes, moving them to the grid and modifying things. Of course computers were used but overall we made everything as analog as possible. Listeners can experience a better sound and natural groove, something that we think most metal albums lack these days. Overall, the album sounds much more like a band playing live rather than ‘midi-metal.'”

Commended by Outburn for songs that are consistently “epic” in scope with a “reliance on catchy melodies,” ENSIFERUM’s One Man Army serves as the follow-up to 2012’s lauded Unsung Heroes full-length and boasts the stunningly detailed, mythological cover craftings of renowned illustrator, Gyula Havancsak (Annihilator, Tyr, Elvenking, Stratovarius etc.).

“On the new album, we took many things musically to the next level so we decided also to try something new graphics-wise,” relays Hinkka. “Gyula Havancsák did a phenomenal job! For the first time it was really nice to be more involved with designing the cover and all details. Our humble gratitude to Gyula for all the patience and really amazing results. We couldn’t be more satisfied!”

As a precursor to the release, ENSIFERUM unleashed the fittingly-titled “Warmetal” for public consumption. Composed by Demonos Sova of Finnish black metal unit, Barathrum, the track is available on the covermount CD of the current issue of Germany’s Legacy Magazine.

ENSIFERUM’s One Man Army will be released via Metal Blade Records on February 24th, 2015. Further details, including track listing and additional teaser hymns to be unveiled in the coming weeks. In the meantime, 70,000 Tons of Metal voyagers will be able to catch ENSIFERUM live next month before they kick off a massive European trek, wielding their swords alongside Insomnium and Omnium Gatherum. ENSLAVED: NEW ALBUM DETAILS ANNOUNCED

In Times will be the title of the thirteenth studio album by Norwegian progressive extreme metallers ENSLAVED. Hand-painted artwork is by long-time collaborating artist and “sixth ENSLAVED member” Truls Espedal. The album will be released on March 6 (Europe) and March 10, 2015 (N. America).

ENSLAVED guitarist & composer Ivar Bjørnson shares the following about the band’s latest creation:

“I was so deep into the songs and ideas for such a long time (or have my head so far up my own a**, if you prefer more direct language) that it is hard to have any ‘opinions’ about them that is anything else than the high-flying mumbo-jumbo of the introvert song-smith. The songs are extensions of my inner and outer life, the thoughts I am aware of having, as well as those that lie too deep to register in everyday consciousness. The songs are the resounds of grandiose altered states and mundane tiny micro-events. In addition, they are, of course, also the result of inspiration from other music and art. I do think this new album is the most consistent body of work we have so far: It incorporates our ‘blacker’ past with our influences from prog rock, our present sense of absolute freedom, and the joy of being in this band, if that makes any sense? Ha, ha, ha. It is higher in energy, more aggressive, yet more beautiful and subtle. It simply sounds inspired.”

The track listing for In Times is:

01 – Thurisaz Dreaming
02 – Building With Fire
03 – One Thousand Years Of Rain
04 – Nauthir Bleeding
05 – In Times
06 – Daylight

The new album’s total running time is fifty-three minutes.

Main recordings for In Times took place at Duper Studios to Solslottet Studio in Bergen, Norway with additional recordings sessions at Conclave & Earshot Studios (presided over by ENSLAVED members Larsen and Ice Dale), and Ivar Bjørnson’s Peersonal Sound Studios. Additional experimentation and sonic exploration was conducted deep in the woods of Valevåg south of Bergen where a mobile studio recorded additional sounds.

In Times was produced by band members Ivar Bjørnson, Grutle Kjellson & Herbrand Larsen together with Iver Sandøy. Mixing was completed by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden.

PILLORY: Technical Death Metal Strategists Launch New Video

Boston technical death metal strategists, PILLORY, today unleash their brand new video for “Imbeciles In Defiance.” The tune comes by way of their punishing Evolutionary Miscarriage full-length, released earlier this year via Unique Leader Records.

Written, recorded and produced by founding drummer Darren Cesca (Arsis, Burn In Silence, Goratory et al) at his newly-launched House Of Grind Studios in Connecticut during 2013, PILLORY’s Evolutionary Miscarriage is centered thematically around the de-evolution of mankind. A physically and mentally consuming sound excursion, Evolutionary Miscarriage brandishes deranged rhythms, maniacal riff onslaughts, subtle white noise nuances and multi-layered vocals all executed together with near surgical meticulousness, the record’s sharp production allowing each lacerating note to shine while retaining the blunt brutality of its predecessor, No Life Guard At The Gene Pool. Accurately describes Metal Forces, “Album number two offers eleven quizzical cuts that refuse to rest on any laurels, but instead one moment race with a frenzy only to pulverize with perplexing dryness and inaccessible pattern shifts. It belongs in the same algae-ridden corner of space once carved out by the likes of Pestilence, then Cynic, and onto Gorguts, Necrophagist, Origin etc., but it’s only real similarity to these heavyweights is its ability to bewilder and jolt the bones so that they crumble under the sheer force of the unpredictable twists and turns.”

The result is an ugly, furious album true to MARDUK’s sinister legacy and true to the essence of black metal. Welcome to the front. There is no salvation.

FULGORA: Apocalyptic Grindcore/Death Collective Featuring Members Of Pig Destroyer, Misery Index + Agoraphobic Nosebleed Premieres New Hymn

A name representing the female personification of lightning in Greek mythology, FULGORA is a shadowy grindcore/death collective featuring members of Pig Destroyer, Misery Index and Agoraphobic Nosebleed. Together they concoct violent hymns of destruction fusing death/grind and hardcorish, vulturine vocal infiltrations.

This past July, the editors of MetalSucks handpicked five unsigned bands from an open application process to record with producer Will Putney at Converse Rubber Tracks in Brooklyn, New York, Converse’s completely free, state-of-the-art recording studio. FULGORA ranked among the five with the notorious web portal accurately gushing, “although it might be easy to dismiss FULGORA as just another deathgrind band from guys who specialize in deathgrind bands, it is very much its own project with its own distinct personality: if Misery Index is a determined fanatic seething with the righteous rage of political revolution and Pig Destroyer is the lovelorn, desperate stalker of every woman’s nightmares, then FULGORA is a mad scientist who is going to make you the middle section of his human centipede. FULGORA’s music is unforgiving and furious, but it’s also executed with surgical precision.”

Some weeks later the band joined Philip H. Anselmo’s Housecore Records for the release of their Stratagem full-length, a nihilistic sound track to a world collapsing from within. “It’s an honor to be a part of the Housecore family,” comments the band, “It’s the perfect fit for us, as they are very artist-friendly, and music fans first and foremost. We look forward to working with Phil and the entire Housecore crew, and hope to see everyone on the road soon!”

Set for official unveiling this February, the seven-track Stratagem is a collection of limited vinyl singles and samples including the Converse Rubber Tracks recorded “Meridian,” currently dominating the airwaves at MetalSucks, who relays, “…forget a bull in a china shop, this is more like a bull in a china shop trying to dodge flying, electrified circle saws being shot at him from a cannon. While we tend to think of grindcore as genre dominated by a punkish, messy sound, FULGORA’s attack is precise, dominated by right angles and sharp, exposed edges.”

Get mentally abused by the sounds of “Meridian,” now streaming at MetalSucks at THIS LOCATION.

Stratagem Track Listing:
1. Source
2. Splinter
3. Risen
4. Artifice
5. Design
6. Crutch
7. Meridian

Stratagem will be released via Housecore Records on February 3rd, 2015. Stay tuned for further info including additional streams and live intrusions to be announced in the weeks to come.

DEATH DTA TOURS: Massacre To Sit Out “Symbolic 20th Anniversary” European Trek

DEATH DTA TOURS regret that, due to several factors, Massacre will not be taking part in the “Symbolic 20th Anniversary” European tour in late February/March 2015. Unfortunately, Massacre also had to cut their participation in the Swamp Leper Stomp ’14 tour with DTA, Obituary and Rivers Of Nihil by one show.

Massacre bassist Terry Butler and vocalist Ed Webb today issued joint statements indicating that they have formally exited the band:

Said Terry Butler: “It’s with a heavy heart that I am announcing my departure from Massacre. I wish Ed, [drummer] Mikey [Mazzonetto] and [guitarist] Rick [Rozz] the best of luck with their future endeavors. I would like to thank the awesome fans for their support and loyalty and to those who labored to help bring the band back from beyond. Thank you as well….Arrivederci!”

Adds Ed Webb: “After much thought and consideration it is with deep regret that I announce my departure from Massacre. This was not an easy decision to make but a necessary one. The last four years have had its share of both unbelievable times as well as some times I wish to forget. I want to thank all of the Massacre fans, those who accepted me as the new vocalist as well as those who didn’t. You guys gave me the desire to work harder than I ever had in the past. I also had the privilege to play some of the most incredible shows, do some killer tours and meet a lot of great people along the way. At this point, I am going to just concentrate on my two main projects [Generichrist and Destined To Ruin] as well as a few other projects I am working on. I want to endlessly thank Terry, Rick and Mikey for the opportunity to record an absolutely crushing CD and get to tour around the world with them. I wish them all the best in their future endeavors. I hope to see everyone in the future and thanks for letting me do what I live to do!”

FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE: “Epilogue” video clip released

Italy’s Symphonic Death Metal horde FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE announced that they had filmed an official video for the track ‘Epilogue’ last week by teasing fans with a snippet from the clip. The band are pleased to announce that fans can now watch the video for the track, which is taken from the band?s latest album Labyrinth, over on the Nuclear Blast YouTube channel:

Comments the band:

“We are really proud of the results obtained with this new video, both technically and artistically speaking. Together with our good friend and director Salvatore Perrone, we decided to try a completely different way of shooting from our previous videos, using almost only sliders and craigs that give a very cinematographic style to the whole thing. We chose the song ‘Epilogue’ since we consider it a very important song for the band. In fact, on a musical level, it contains some of the more particular elements of the whole album, for which regards the riffing and the arrangements. On the other hand, the song summarizes the whole concept contained in Labyrinth, bringing up the deepest meanings of fear, and the way they reflect on our relationships; to represent this, we used Tommaso and Veronica as two main characters that interact with each other, exactly like it happens in the live shows. As usual, we want to thank everybody who contributed to the making of this video, and all the people supporting FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE.”

The video was directed by Francesco Paoli and Salvatore Perrone and features special guests soprano vocalist Veronica Bordacchini, guitarist Marco Sensi and cellist Shamatiyenko Kostyantyn. A special thanks from the band goes out to the crew involved in the making of the video: Marco “Napo” Ghirga, Daniele Sensi, Matteo Flori and to the Brainstorm Agency Video Crew: Francesco Rufini, Andrea Proietti and Giacomo Paracciani.

FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE?s third album Labyrinth was released on last year via Nuclear Blast and was produced, mixed and mastered by Stefano Morabito at 16th Cellar Studio. Colin Marks (ORIGIN, KATAKLYSM) created the cover artwork, as well as several pieces for a massive inlay included with the album.

MUTILATION RITES ANNOUNCES FIRST-EVER EUROPEAN TOUR DATES

Brooklyn heathens MUTILATION RITES will cross over to Europe in early 2015, as they embark on their first-ever international tour. The band will kick off the trek — which also features the Italian band Hierophant — in Milan on Feb. 4. Full dates and further information can be found above and below.

In the meantime, the group will play one last show for 2014 this Sunday (14) at their hometown haunt, Saint Vitus Bar, alongside Black Breath and White Widows Pact.

Additionally, MUTILATION RITES have confirmed the departure of drummer Justin Ennis: “We regret announcing that Justin will no longer be playing drums with us. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. For our upcoming NYC date and European tour, Tyler Coburn (Yautja, Alraune, Gnarwhal) will be filling in.”

Following the May release of their critically-lauded sophomore full-length album “Harbinger,” which “takes filth to new levels by pushing the boundaries of what we know to be brutal black metal” (MetalSucks), the band maintained their DIY, grassroots work ethic by headlining an East Coast run in addition to being featured for the second time in a row at Gilead Fest.

MUTILATION RITES’ sound — a “nightmarish merger between black, death, d-beat, and doom” (Pitchfork) — was perfected on their latest record by prodcucer Kevin Bernsten (TRIAC) and mastering engineer James Plotkin (Sunn O))), ISIS, Pelican).

VENOM Reveal Stunning ‘From The Very Depths’ Cover Art

VENOM announced the January 27 release of From The Very Depths (Spinefarm Records) last week, news that was met with elation among the metal community, from tastemakers to fans. The metal icons, who are pretty much responsible for authoring their own genre, have followed up the album release news by sharing the two-horns-up album artwork.

The cover is visually arresting, featuring skeletal beings bathed in red and orange tones. The image is dominated by the instantly recognizable VENOM logo, and is a natural successor to the artwork for previous album, 2011’s Fallen Angels, also released via Spinefarm.

And to think this is merely the cover! The album’s accompanying music slays, and early praise indicates that this could be one VENOM’s best releases…ever. Even the album title is 100 per cent ‘Venomous’, referencing the band’s infamous live intro tape.

EINHERJER: Norwegian Viking Metal Legion’s Av Oss, For Oss Full-Length To See North American Release

Norwegian Viking metal trio, EINHERJER, will unleash the battle-ready fruitions of their epically infectious Av Oss, For Oss full-length to North American ears next month. The band’s sixth full-length was written and produced by the band, recorded at guitarist/bassist/vocalist Frode Glesnes’s own Studio Borealis and mixed by Matt Hyde (Hatebreed, Slayer, Children Of Bodom, Monster Magnet et al). Released on European shores earlier this year, the offering delivers eight elaborately executed war hymns that are at once vicious, gallant and treacherously catchy.

In celebration of its official stateside release, today Noisey waves their Viking flag to the heroic gallop of fifth movement, “Nord Og Ner” noting, “the Norwegian trio takes a darker, more abrasive approach than that of cheeseball troll-chasers like Korpiklaani or Finntroll, tempering their jaunty traditional folk melodies and full-voiced Viking choruses with seething black metal aggression. Drawing upon stories from Norse mythology and holding tight to the blackened chords of old, Av Oss, For Oss, does its forefathers proud.”

Adds the band: “The Vikings courage and boldness have inspired us to never compromise our vision: A vision that is a unique, self-made, original and modern interpretation of our mighty Nordic heritage. EINHERJER have never used their banner to spread cowardly and ignorant propaganda. We never seek entry in the un-culture extremists taint our ancestors with. We wish to give people in all countries knowledge to what we feel is a mysterious and fascinating culture that can be shared and enjoyed by many. Our history rings with the same sound and side by side with other cultures worldwide. From the age of the Egyptian pharaohs, the splendor of the Roman Empire, the genius of the Inka, the bastions of Constantinople, the wonders of the east, the honor of the Samurai and the Greek philosophers. Our heritage is a world heritage. And we strive to renew ourselves. We strive to retell our story in a new way. With a new sound. But with the same spirit that has followed EINHERJER since the beginning. In the wake of Norrøn, we once again tread a new path. The new album Av Oss, For Oss will help us bring our vision and our heritage even further!”

FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE Release Teaser for “Epilogue” Video Clip

Italy’s Symphonic Death Metal horde FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE, recently filmed a new promotional video for the song “Epilogue” and have released a teaser for the video. The track is taken from the band’s latest album Labyrinth;

“2014 has been an incredible year for us,” states the band. “We played more than a hundred shows promoting Labyrinth all over the world and had the chance to see amazing things, but more than anything, we’ve been showed an amazing support by all the fans we had the honour to meet in so many different countries! That’s why we decided to do something special to thank you all for making this possible: we recently came across some outstanding locations that deeply inspired us and we decided to shoot a new video clip for one of the most particular and representative songs of our last album. This will be our Christmas present, and we already know it’s going to be super-classy!”

The official video for “Epilogue” will be released on December 09th – stay tuned!

Labyrinth was produced, mixed and mastered by Stefano Morabito at 16th Cellar Studio and hones in on the band’s unique traits, giving fans everything they could hope for and more. Colin Marks (ORIGIN, KATAKLYSM) also created the cover artwork, as well as several pieces for a massive inlay.

Decibel Magazine’s Streaming ABYSMAL DAWN’s Cover of Dissections’ “Night Blood”

New Album Obsolescence Out Now on Relapse Records

“The riffs are nonstop infectious to the point of being addictive, the grooves are bitchin’ and demand the volume cranked and the car windows lowered…”
-Outburn 9/10

ABYSMAL DAWN released their new album Obsolescence earlier this month via Relapse Records. Met with critical acclaim and some of the band’s best reviews yet, Obsolescence is a veritable beast of a record and the perfect example of what 21st century death metal should sound like.

Included on Obsolescence as a bonus track, ABYSMAL DAWN covered the classic Dissection song “Night’s Blood”. Today Decibel Magazine’s “Deciblog” is hosting an exclusive stream of ABYSMAL DAWN’s take on the track HERE.

ABYSMAL DAWN strikes the perfect balance between extreme songwriting and exceptional skill with an infectious blend of technical yet memorable riffs, throat shredding vocals, and crushing rhythms delivered with machine gun precision.

VENOM To Release New Album in January

VENOM -the hugely influential British heavy metal trio, widely revered for driving and shaping many aspects of the music industry, including black and thrash metal as well as for their instinctive blending of metallic power and punk spirit- have confirmed the release of their new studio album, From the Very Depths. It will be released January 27 via Spinefarm Records.

The band is led by vocalist/bassist and original VENOM titan, Cronos, who decided against making fans the world over wait too long for this powerful new 14-track release, which is the follow-up to 2011’s Fallen Angels, also issued via Spinefarm.

So… VENOM will be unleashing their fourteenth studio album, via CD and download, on January 27, with a double vinyl format to follow shortly after.

Cronos says, “This album is perfect, all three members are totally over-the-top confident with the new songs and the production. We had a great atmosphere in the studio while we were recording. Dante created pure thunder from his drums, while Rage tears the flesh off your face with his riffs, making everything fall into place so well. It’s a strong release and really shows the band maturing into an unstoppable force of pure Black Metal. We can’t wait to play the new songs live for the Legions… Hell Yeah!”

Just as the aftermath of Christmas can be laced with reminders of gluttony and false cheer, so VENOM will unleash a full-throttle, full-length LP to drag you even further into HELL!

AGNOSTIC FRONT to Begin Recording New Album Next Month!

Seminal NYC hardcore veterans AGNOSTIC FRONT, will enter Buzzbomb Sound Labs on December 5th to begin recording their 11th studio album. The session will be handled by Paul Miner (TERROR, H2O, ATREYU, DEATH BY STEREO, ETC.,) who will be engineering, mixing and mastering the release. Artwork and layout will be handled by artist Todd Huber, who also works with vocalist Roger Miret’s clothing-line American Made Kustom.

“We are excited to be working with Paul Miner at Buzzbomb Sound Labs on our new record which we are calling The American Dream Died,” comments Miret. “This recording promises to be mean, fast and furious; with elements of our classic styles, adding chaotic blasts of real old school hardcore!”

These rarely confronted and always respected leaders of hardcore were established as one of the meanest-sounding bands in the emerging punk genre, helping to initiate the term “hardcore,” and placing an entire uproar on the New York map by association. From the start, AGNOSTIC FRONT released a catalogue of fast and violent punk tunes consisting of distinctive and aggressive drumming, fuming guitars, overdriven bass work, and a non-stop barrage of chaotic shouting.

AGNOSTIC FRONT?s latest record, My Life My Way, was released on March 22, 2011. It features 13 powerful and anthemic songs laid down by Erik Rutan (MADBALL, GOATWHORE, CANNIBAL CORPSE, etc.) at his Mana Recording Studio in Tampa, FL under the watchful guide of producer Freddy Cricien of MADBALL. The record was mastered by none other than Alan Douches (NILE, MASTODON, etc.).
