AMON AMARTH: Track-By-Track Video Premiere

In celebration of its impending North American release just one week away, today Metal Insider offers up an exclusive track-by-track video premiere of AMON AMARTH’s Deceiver of the Gods.  The vibrant art clip includes snippets of each of the record’s epic ten tracks. Additionally, fans can enjoy the accompanying written commentary discussing the themes of each song as relayed by vocalist Johan Hegg.

1) “Deceiver of the Gods”  This is basically an introduction to Loke. He describes his background and his devious mind in these lyrics.

2) “As Loke Falls” …is the tale of the battle between Loke and Heimdall at Raganrok, the end of the world.

3) “Father of the Wolf “… is the story of how the fearsome nemesis of Oden, the wolf Fenris, was born.

4) “Shapeshifter” … is based on Loke’s quarrel with the Asa Gods, but also him describing his traits of being able to shift his appearance into different animal shapes, as well as shifting from doing good or bad deeds.

5) “Under Siege” …tells the story of a fortress under siege, where the residents have to make a choice: either starve to death, or make one final desperate attack that is doomed to fail.

6) “Blood Eagle”  This is a nasty piece of work. Basically describing a very brutal type of execution.

7) “We Shall Destroy” … is a story about a battle where the warriors of both sides are forming a wall of shields. It’s a story of strength through unity.

8) “Hel”  In this song Hel, the ruler for the realm of the dead welcomes the listener to her “humble home” to join her at the banquet of the dead where Famine is your plate and Hunger is your knife. This song features a special guest appearance by Messiah Marcolin!

9) “Coming of the Tide”  These lyrics are related to “Under Siege.” It’s the story of how a mounted legion of warriors are rushing to the aid of the besieged, but they arrive too late. Realising everyone is dead they take up the pursuit of those responsible . 

10) “The Warriors of the North”  This is a story of a group of loyal warriors who are betrayed by their king, and banished from their land. But twenty years later the kingdom is under attack, and they are called back to defend the king who betrayed them, to restore their honour and to get a final chance to die the warriors death so that they can reach Valhalla.

Deceiver of the Gods will be released in North America via Metal Blade Records June 25th, in Europe June 21st/24th and Japan on June 26th.

SEPULTURA: Dave Lombardo to Guest on New Album!

Dave Lombardo, former drummer for thrash legends SLAYER, will be featured on the upcoming album by Brazilian-American thrashers SEPULTURA.  Lombardo was having some quality-time with his kids and dog at the beach near the studio where SEPULTURA is recording, when sound guru Ross Robinson (MACHINE HEAD, SLIPKNOT, KORN, FEAR FACTORY) asked him if he wanted to guest on the recording.

Commented Kisser: “He came and it was so nice, so special, so awesome! He is one of the nicest guys in business and he enjoyed the idea a lot. Ross and Mike prepared two drum sets on the living room, facing each other, no cymbals, just tribal drums! When the mics were all ready and running Eloy and Dave started playing and the magic was on; so great! The part they recorded will be a special part on the middle of one of the songs. It came out crazy!”

SEPULTURA have reunited with producer Ross Robinson (KORN,) for their upcoming record, which is tentatively due in October via Nuclear Blast Records. The album is currently being tracked at Robinson‘s studio in Venice, California and is being co-produced by Steve Evetts (THE DILLENGER ESCAPE PLAN, SYMPHONY X, INCANTATION), who previously worked with SEPULTURA on their Nation (2001), Revolusongs(2002) and Roorback (2003) albums, in addition to having collaborated with Ross on a number of other projects in the past. The as of yet untitled album is tentatively scheduled for a Fall 2013 release.

DARKANE REVEAL NEW TRACK FROM ‘THE SINISTER SUPREMACY’

Swedish melodic death/technical thrash quintet DARKANE have unveiled “Mechanically Divine,” a new song from their PROSTHETIC RECORDS debut, “The Sinister Supremacy.” The album, scheduled to be released in North America on July 2, marks the first new music from the band in five years, as well as the return of vocalist Lawrence Mackrory (who left the band after their acclaimed 1999 debut, “Rusted Angel”). UNEARTH SIGN WITH EONE MUSIC IN NORTH AMERICA. New Album Due Late 2013

Metal veterans UNEARTH have signed a North American record deal with eOne Music. The band plans to release a brand new LP later this year, their sixth spanning the band’s 15 year tenure. Vocalist Trevor Phipps offers the state of the band and their intentions for this new release in his comments below:

HAVOK: Candlelight Unveils Special Lyric Video For Latest Single

Candlelight Records has premiered a special pre-release lyric video for HAVOK’s latest single, “Give Me Liberty… Or Give Me Death,” taken from their forthcoming new album Unnatural Selection.

Unnatural Selection is set to be released in North America on June 25 and is currently available as a pre-order now at Candlelight’s official webstore. Special bundle packages of the album are available exclusively at the HAVOK’s official merchandise store. Unnatural Selection was produced by Terry Date (Pantera, Overkill, Deftones) and was mastered by James Murphy (Testament, Death). 

HAVOK just completed their second European tour and will perform three special “hometown” pre-release shows June 21-23.  The band will kick off their first headline tour of North America on July 22.  More dates have been confirmed on the tour now stretching through early September.

KREATOR: DYING ALIVE DVD ARTWORK REVEALED

German thrash overlords KREATOR have revealed the zombiefied artwork for their upcoming Dying Alive DVD. The live DVD will be released in North America on September 3^rd and features the band’s sold-out, hometown, December 22^nd, 2012 performance in Oberhausen, Germany shot by 24 cameras plus guitar and mosh-pit POV cams.

Also, in support of their thirteenth studio album Phantom Antichrist, KREATOR will co-headline the “Legends Of Thrash” tour this fall through the U.S. & Canada with Overkill.  Opening each night will be Warbringer.

The first of 24 shows takes place on October 30^th at the Soundstage in Baltimore, Maryland with KREATOR headlining. Overkill will end the tour with a headlining set at New York City’s Stage 48 on November 24^th.

ATTIKA 7  have just been added to the ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL this summer. Yes, you heard right! ATTIKA 7 will be bringing its brand of outlaw biker metal to the ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL.

ATTIKA 7′s concept and uncompromising metal and hardcore-influenced riffs were originally conceived from behind the walls of the United States Federal Penitentiary system.  In addition to including music veterans like Evan Seinfeld of Biohazard and other members boasting credits like Nonpoint, UPO, andVicious Rumors, the band features true motorcycle legend and lead guitarist Rusty Coones, who is also recognized internationally as the character” Quinn” of FX’s hit series SONS OF ANARCHY.

Unfortunately this is not a joke. Not in the traditional sense of the word, anyway.

PROSTHETIC RECORDS TO REISSUE ACCLAIMED GOJIRA ALBUMS ON VINYL

By popular demand, Prosthetic Records will soon issue gatefold double-LP editions of the two albums that rocketed the French progressive tech-death quartet GOJIRA from the European underground to international stardom. “From Mars To Sirius” and “The Way Of All Flesh” — two of the most acclaimed metal releases of the past decade — will be released on vinyl on August 27. Pre-orders are available now.

Originally issued overseas in 2005, “From Mars To Sirius” — released by Prosthetic in 2006, and never before available on LP in North America — was the Western Hemisphere’s formal introduction to GOJIRA. One of MetalSucks’ Top 10 “best metal albums of the 21st Century so far,” the album was supported by U.S. tours with the likes of Lamb of God, Children of Bodom, Machine Head, Behemoth and Amon Amarth. The gatefold 2LP set will be available in three 180-gram variants: “Eco-Green” (600 copies), “Mars Red” (200 copies) and “Sea Blue” (200 copies), the latter two of which are mail-order exclusives.

Engineered, mixed and mastered by Logan Mader (Five Finger Death Punch, DevilDriver, Fear Factory), follow-up “The Way Of All Flesh” (2008) cemented GOJIRA’s status as one of metal’s most important acts. The band’s first release to crack the Billboard Top 200, the album — which features a guest appearance by Lamb of God front man Randy Blythe — was supported by tours with the likes of In Flames and All That Remains, in addition to a month touring North American arenas with Metallica. The gatefold 2LP set marks the first time in three years that the album will be available on vinyl, and it will be offered in two new variants: 180-gram clear (500 copies), and a mail-order exclusive, standard-weight blue/white split vinyl (500 copies).

The Power Of The Riff: Fourth Annual Installment Of Los Angeles Fest Confirmed

The 2013 installment of the The Power Of The Riff festival in Los Angeles is right around the corner, this being the fourth annual occurrence of the massive event.

Curated and organized by Greg Anderson and Sam James Velde, The Power Of The Riff honors fans and musicians of all ages from within all walks and lifestyles under the umbrella of the heavy music underground. Tapping into a lineup that represents forefathers, milestones and current touring acts, while shedding light on up and coming bands and local acts, The Power Of The Riff festival is an all-day, all-ages event. The festival also includes an on-location record swap-meet of local stores and features pop-up stores by independent record labels and vendors, DJ sets between performances, a gourmet food truck court with some of Los Angeles’ best purveyors of street food dining, and more.

The fourth annual The Power Of The Riff is spreading it’s wings a bit more this time around, this year adding a pre-party on Friday, August 9th at The Echo. The massive full-day lineup the next day, Saturday, August 10th, at both The Echo and Echoplex, offers another stellar lineup of classic heavyweights, and crushing newcomers. The combined events offer 26 bands in total.

Female-Fronted Technical Death Metal Band “YOUR CHANCE TO DIE” Release New Album ‘The American Dream’

South Carolina female-fronted technical death metal band YOUR CHANCE TO DIE is thrilled to announce the release of their sophomore full-length album, The American Dream via Red Cord Records. The record is available on iTunes as of yesterday.

Now, we know what you’re thinking. Female-fronted technical death metal? Really? Can that possibly work and still be legitimate death metal? Yes, really. Take one listen/watch of their new music video for the single ‘Oscuridad’ and it will become increasingly apparent that this band is all skill and no frill.

In support of The American Dream, 2013 will bring a national tour, a Central/South America tour, and a European tour.

DYING FETUS Announce North American Headline Tour, Re-Sign to Relapse Records

Death Metal powerhouse DYING FETUS have announced a North American headline tour for this fall.  The tour kicks off October 5^th in Wilmington, NC and runs through November 2^nd in Springfield, VA.  The tour features support from label mates Exhumed and Devourment, as well as Waking the Cadaver, Abiotic and Rivers of Nihil. General admission tickets go on sale this Friday.

It has also been confirmed that DYING FETUS have re-signed with their long time record label Relapse Records.

The band will return to Europe this summer.  Their tour begins July 24^th in Slovenia and runs through August 18^th in France.  The tour includes appearances at numerous festivals including Brutal Assault, Party San, Bloodstock, Summer Breeze and many more.

Recently the band confirmed a string of Canadian tour dates for later summer.  This run also includes select dates in the US. The tour is set to kick off August 23^rd in Clifton Park, NY and will run through September 3^rd in Providence, RI.  A complete list of dates can be found below.

WATAIN reveals album artwork for ‘The Wild Hunt’

Sweden’s most notorious metal extremists, WATAIN, have revealed the album cover artwork and track-listing for their fifth studio album, The Wild Hunt. Executed in oil and mixed materials, the cover of The Wild Hunt was done by Zbigniew M Bielak, the very same artist who was responsible for the Lawless Darkness artwork.

The Wild Hunt will be released on August 19th in Europe and August 20th in North America by His Master’s Noise, via Century Media Records.

On August 24th, WATAIN will kick off The Wild Hunt world tour in their hometown of Uppsala.

HUNTRESS Starbound Beast iTunes Pre-Order Available Now

HUNTRESS has generated a massive amount of buzz since the release of their debut album Spell Eater in 2012. The follow up to last year’s kill is Starbound Beast, to be released on July 2nd during the band’s run with the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival.  The album is now available for pre-order on iTunes.  Pre-ordering the album entitles you to an instant track download of “I Want to Fuck You to Death” (which was co-written by Lemmy of Motorhead) from the new album.

Starbound Beast will be released on June 28th in Europe and on July 2nd in North America via Napalm Records.  The band recorded the album at Hobby Shop Studios in Los Angeles, CA, working with famed producer Zeuss (Shadows Fall, Hatebreed, Agnostic Front).  The artwork for Starbound Beast was created once again by Vance Kelly (Slayer, Ghost B.C., Mastodon).

GWAR Announces Co-Headline Tour Dates With Hatebreed!

Intergalactic mutants GWAR and hardcore metal heavyweights Hatebreed are co-headlining a short run of gigs in September. GWAR has also confirmed a new festival date, appearing at Chicago’s “Riot Fest” for the second year in a row. Joining the fun will be Richmond, VA’s Iron Reagan, featuring members of Municipal Waste and Cannabis Corpse.

GRIMUS: Jersey Death Horde Release “The Vulture” off new album Omnicide

GRIMUS today drops the second single to be released from the nearly thirty-six minute onslaught of Omnicide, with an exclusive stream of the album’s fifth hymn, “The Vulture” here.

Additionally, following the release of Omnicide’s first single, the album opener “Without Master“– initially premiered last month  — this week a visual encounter with GRIMUS drummer JP Andrade (also of Winfaerer, Allegaeon) showcasing his blast patterns is up at SickDrummer

GRIMUS will self-release Omnicide on June 25 2013, preceded by a hometown record release show in Elizabeth just days before and another gig on Staten Island a week later, with new live performances to be announced in the coming weeks.

Grimus Posts New Song, “The Vulture,” Online

New Noise Magazine has debuted a new track, entitled “The Vulture,” from the New Jersey death metal band Grimus at this location. The song comes off their forthcoming full-length debut, “Omnicide.” The song was tracked and mixed by guitarist Marco Bobadilla at Crimson Recording and mastered by Alan Douches (Cannibal Corpse, Beneath the Massacre, Job For A Cowboy etc.) at West West Side Music. Grimus will release “Omnicide” on June 25th, 2013.
