? LA-based black metal artists, LIGHTNING SWORDS OF DEATH, are arising for a North American tour this June. They will be supporting Melechesh along with Vreid and Reign of Lies. The tour starts on June 16th in LA at The Joint and will cover up on June 30th in Brooklyn, NY.
LIGHTNING SWORDS OF DEATH’s “caustic yet otherworldly method” (Decibel Magazine) has earned the band high praise from fans and press worldwide with their most recent cd, Baphometic Chaosium. The band also recently released their first ever songs video. The video for Baphometic Chaosium and was directed by co-founder and prima donna, Autarch (aka the metal illustrator, Farron Loathing). The job, which also marks Autarch’s directorial launching, is the outcome of a collaboration between Farron Loathing and Mortichrome Movies. It is explained by its creator as “a psycho-dramatic interpretation of the Mass of Mayhem and the invocation of Baphomet as performed by a cumulative of ritual efficiency artists.” Watch the video now at metalblade.com/lightningswordsofdeath.

LOUDER THAN HELL: The Definitive Oral History of Metal is in stores NOW! Compiled from over 400 interviews conducted by respected music journalists Jon Wiederhorn and Katherine Turman, LOUDER THAN HELL: The Definitive Oral History of Metal (It Books; May 14, 2013; Hardcover; $32.50) is a chronological history of heavy metal, told through the words of the men and women who created it, played it, re-invented it, and continue to rock it. This week, the book is ranked at number #549 in the top books OVERALL on Amazon.com! The book is still ranked #1 in Heavy Metal Books and #2 in History & Criticism Books. LOUDER THAN HELL is also ranked #11 in 20th Century Books.
From the creation of Black Sabbath in the late 1960s, to Judas Priest?s development of the leather-and-studs look, to Metallica introducing the world to thrash, to the inception of Ozzfest, to Faith No More accidentally creating the first hybrid of rap and metal, to the provocative exploits of the Sunset Strip scene, to the death and destruction surrounding Norwegian black metal, LOUDER THAN HELL gets to the meat of the metal matter.
LOUDER THAN HELL explores the transformation of metal culture, with stories and anecdotes straight from the mouths of the most infamous and successful bands. Filled with hundreds of revealing interviews representing every type and era of heavy metal… from metal progenitors such as Blue Cheer, Led Zeppelin, and the MC5 to current day innovators including Slipknot, Mastodon, and Lamb of God.
LOUDER THAN HELL is the ultimate look behind the curtain at one of our most dynamic, controversial and enduring musical genres. With an introduction by Scott Ian of Anthrax and an afterword by Rob Halford of Judas Priest, and with two 16-page photo inserts, with some never-before seen candid shots by celebrated rock photographers Stephanie Cabral and Robert Matheu, this is the book metal fans have been waiting for.

Disinterred British extreme metal legends CARCASS have signed to Nuclear Blast Records for the world excluding Japan! Surgical Steel, the band’s first studio release since their 1996 LP Swansong, was produced by Colin Richardson (NAPALM DEATH, BOLT THROWER, GOREFEST, CANNIBAL CORPSE, SINISTER, RODRIGO Y GABRIELA) and mixed/mastered by Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, ACCEPT, EXODUS, TESTAMENT). Joining guitarist Bill Steer and bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker in the band’s current incarnation are new drummer Dan Wilding (ABORTED, TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED) and guitarist Ben Ash (PIG IRON, DESOLATION, LIQUEFIED SKELETON). Expect some guest vocals from original sticksman Ken Owen as well, when Surgical Steel is released this Fall world-wide.
CARCASS has released several classic albums over the years, including Decibel Magazine “Hall of Fame” inductees Heartwork and Necroticism – Descanting the Insalubrious, and their influence has changed the face of extreme metal with every consecutive release. Whether it was inventing gore-grind (i.e. Reek of Putrefaction, Symphonies of Sickness) or creating the template for melodic death metal (i.e. Heartwork), CARCASS has always made records by which bars were set and rules were broken. Upon the band’s dismantling in 1996, fans mourned the loss of the seminal act and longed that the group would return again one day. In 2007, the metal world got its wish as CARCASS reformed to play several sold-out reunion shows around the globe. Once again re-motivated to administer a shot of cynicism and infectious riffs into the arm of a sickly metal scene, founding members Bill Steer and Jeff Walker began writing what would become the latest output of their highly influential career, Surgical Steel. Only the choicest of cuts were made, and blood sweat and tears were shed to bring us a record worthy of the CARCASS legacy. In short, Surgical Steel is just what the doctor ordered.
SIX FEET UNDER are currently preparing for their next round of tour dates in support of Unborn. As previously announced, Decrepit Birth and Cannabis Corpse will be joining them on this tour. Additionally, up-and-coming act Dealey Plaza will open the show. The tour begins July 10th in Houston and VIP bundles are currently available. Bundles include a ticket to the show, SIX FEET UNDER shirt, a limited “Hell In July” poster, and a back stage pre-show hang with founding vocalist, Chris Barnes.
Mixed and mastered by Zeuss at Planet Z, SIX FEET UNDER’s latest album, Unborn, was released on March 19th via Metal Blade Records, and features tracks written in collaboration with Ben Savage (Whitechapel) and Jari Laine (Torture Killer).

? After finishing an extremely successful trip of Europe in support of Propagandhi, followed by a headlining tour, SHAI HULUD have actually returned to the states and are preparing for their next set of confirmed programs. In July, fans on the east coastline will be treated to a handful of programs including Earth Crisis as part of their Firstorm 20th Anniversary Trip. Added support for the east coastline portion of the tour will be from Thy Will Be Done and White Widows. Additional SHAI HULUD shows have been verified for June, and July, consisting of an appearance at Amnesia Rockfest in Montebello, QC. For the complete listing, see below, or check out facebook.com/shaihulud.
SHAI HULUD’s Matt Fox reviews 2013: “2013 has been a banner year for Shai Hulud, and it’s not even summer yet. Seeing the launch of “Reach Beyond The Sun,” touring Australia as a part of the Soundwave Festival (headlined by Metallica ? ? practically the reason we play heavy songs) and having just returned from Europe after a trip with among our favorite bands, Propagandhi, has made this year so far both a blur and a dream, or one and the same relying on how well you remember your dreams, if you can remember them at all. 2013 is one dream we won’t soon forget, etched further into our memory receptors ? ? if there are such things ? ? with the dates we confirmed with Earth Crisis, a substantial and direct influence on the development and presence of Shai Hulud. This is a special year for us, and we’re grateful not just to share it with those who find something in our music that contacts them, but also with numerous of the bands whose songs has spoken, and still talks to us.”
In various other news, French metal singer Rachel Aspe, understood throughout the internet for her look on France’s Got Skill, has actually uploaded a vocal cover of SHAI HULUD’s “Reach Past the Sun.” The track can be heard on Aspe’s youtube network ? ? youtube.com/rachelaspemetal. Fans can also see Rachel Aspe live as the new vocalist of French Metal band Eths. For more info, check out facebook.com/EthsPage.

AMON AMARTH has revealed a trailer for their forthcoming mini documentary. Entitled Forging Mjölnir, the short film will appear as a three-part series with each official segment slated to premiere via the band’s microsite at http://deceiver.amonamarth.com.
The Forging Mjölnir documentary comes in anticipation of AMON AMARTH’s ninth studio offering, Deceiver of the Gods. Recorded at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, UK, and produced, mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap (Opeth, Megadeth, Exodus, Arch Enemy, Killswitch Engage), the follow-up to the band’s critically acclaimed 2011 Surtur Rising full-length delivers ten fiery battle hymns made of buzzsaw riffs and epic harmonies all driven by vocalist Johan Hegg’s commanding Viking roar and absorbing accounts of Norse crusades and treachery. Deceiver of the Gods comes adorned with another outstanding Tom Thiel-created cover portraying a mythical battle between the Norse Gods Loki and Thor. As an added bonus,Messiah Marcolin (Candlemass) makes an appearance as guest vocalist on eighth track, “Hel.”
