DEVIN TOWNSEND: Cracking On with “Ghost”

DEVIN TOWNSEND is hard at work on his next opus, titled Ghost. He’s just racked up some video footage of him and his buddies in the studio doing ‘the business’. Have a watch:

So this is record 4 of the dtp, but I’m recording it third, because Deconstruction (3) is a nightmare technically and I wanted to make something lovely before diving into that.

There are a number of guests on the album, but the core is me, Dave Young (Keyboards) Mike St-Jean (Drums) and the fabulous Kat Epple of flute.

I’m about 2 weeks into this one, and I’ve got about a month and a half more work to do if I keep my schnoz to the grindstone.

I’ll keep you posted…

Oh yeah, please remember (and tell your friends…):

THIS IS NOT THE HEAVY ALBUM, that one is next…but they both get released simultaneously so all us misanthropes will have something to vent with before reading a National Geo to Ghost.

EVILE: Working on Brand New Album, Followup to “Infected Nations”

British thrashers EVILE have revealed that they are currently hard at work writing for a brand new studio album.

EVILE, who recently won a coveted Metal Hammer Golden Gods award, are writing the follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2009 album, Infected Nations.  The band announce that they will once again be working with producer Russ Russell.

EVILE lead guitarist Ol’ Drake comments:

“We’re well on our way into writing the material for Evile’s third album now.  We’ve been playing around with the odd part and riffs since ‘Infected Nations’ came out in 2009.  I have about ten song ideas which are being built on daily, but not going to stop there.  We’re not going to limit ourselves this time to a certain number of songs.  We’re just going to write until it’s time to give up and go into pre-production.  We’ve been sending tracks/recordings/ideas back and forth between ourselves, Russ Russell and our management (Wiseblood) and there’s an excellent vibe going.

“I don’t want this to be a typical ‘new album’ update using the same descriptions and words most bands use to big up an album, so I’ll just say the new stuff is really getting my blood boiling and my heart racing.  We’ve been through a lot over the past year, and it’s being naturally reflected in the music which is coming out.  I’ve never been as passionate as I am now about writing the best material we can.  With Joel in the mix, and him being a die-hard thrash fan since the ’80s, I’m looking forward to see how this will turn out.  Keep an eye on our website for more details, and come catch us on one of the 77 shows in September-December in North America!  (If you don’t see me I’ll be busy riffing for the benefit of your ears.)”

GUNS N’ ROSES: Bottled Off Stage! lol

GUNS N’ ROSES were bottled off stage in Dublin last night after yet more issues with Axl Rose’s timekeeping. The beleaguered rock band hit the stage more than an hour late at the The O2, much to the chagrin of their expectant fans.

Beginning the set with ‘Welcome To The Jungle’, they stopped shortly into the track after bottles bombarded the stage.

Addressing the angry crowd, Axl Rose said:

Alright, here’s the deal: one more bottle, we go home. It’s up to you.

“We would like to stay. Do you want us to stay? We want to stay, we want to have some fun. If you don’t want to have fun all you’ve got to do is let us know – we’ve got no problem – and we’ll go on our way.”

But after three more tracks, the band left the stage, after which a member of staff was forced to take to the microphone to calm jeering fans stressing that they were trying to get Rose to return, and pleading:

“I would ask you to refrain from throwing items at him.”

The band also appeared on stage an hour late last weekend at the Reading and Leeds Festivals.

ENSLAVED: Launch Fan Video Contest for “Ethica Odini”

Norway’s renowned progressive/psychedelic black metal band ENSLAVED have launched a worldwide fan video contest for the track “Ethica Odini” off their new album, Axioma Ethica Odini, due out in North America on September 28th.

States guitarist/songwriter Ivar Bjørnson:

“We wanted to do something else for the album video this time around. The track ‘Ethica Odini’ opens the album and stood out as the choice for making a video.  Earlier, we have done videos more or less by ourselves (“Isa”), semi-professionally (“Path To Vanir,” “Essence”), and all-the-way-glossy-pro (“The Watcher”).  Now we are really curious to see what our listeners can conjure up out there: an entire new angle and blank sheets is always a good thing in the ENSLAVED universe!  This is a way to interact directly with our listeners, which feels very right – as we seem to have the most involved listeners in the first place.  We can’t begin to express the appreciation for the support we have been shown through the run-up to this release!  May the best director win!”

Interested fans can obtain details hereContest ends Thursday, September 30th.

TRAP THEM: Entering Studio Next Week, Launch New Website/Blog

On Monday, TRAP THEM will convene in Salem, Mass. at Godcity Studio with Kurt Ballou (Converge, Disfear, Black Breath) to commence recording their Prosthetic Records debut (and third full-length album overall).

This will be their first full-length to feature drummer Chris Maggio, formerly of Coliseum. The band has also launched a new blog where they will be documenting the recording process and, ultimately, the touring cycle around this as-yet-untitled album. Expect new entries, photos and videos regularly at wecraftindarkness.com

Vocalist Ryan McKenny commented:

“Next week, and for the rest of September, we get knee deep in the shit. This record has been a long time coming. It’s the first, what we consider, proper LP as a full, solid band. Brian and Chris have been hard at work sweating bullets down in Louisville, loading them up in a death-punk black talon and preparing to fire at will.

“This will be our fifth visit to Godcity with Kurt Ballou, who was, naturally, the most obvious choice. We’ve always had a great relationship with him, and there is a certain chemistry between our music and his talent as a producer that puts each session at ease.
