The Suffering and Celebration of Life in America

The Suffering and Celebration of Life in America documents a wife and husband traversing across America looking for answers in ‘life’ and what the ‘American Way’ stands for. The duo meet (and the film features) Ian MacKaye of Fugazi/Minor Threat, Jeff Becerra of Possessed, iconic drummer Gene Hoglan, Martin Atkins of Pigface, black metal band Averse Sefira, and Mike IX Williams of eyehategod. Shane and Amy Bugbee documented creatives, scholars, madmen, and all points in between in a quest to find answers and understanding in a world that seemed less and less welcoming of individuality.  They asked about the freedom of artistic expression and speech, the soul of faith, and the purpose of the ?American Way?.

The biggest surprise of all is how this couple dedicated themselves to their project with no backing and no money in their pockets. They survived, not off grants and sponsor funding, but by working odd jobs found on Craigslist, and the kindness of strangers. They stayed with many people of differing views and lifestyles while on the road, and lived on literally a few dollars a day. Some can enjoy that prospect for a few weeks, but no one but a dedicated and perhaps insane few would do it for an entire year!

This is the highly condensed, multi-media version of their travels. Over 1,000 hours of video footage, 10,000 photos, and volumes of writing have been whittled down to this amazing tale.
