Remember when Pete Townshend of The Who got done up on charges for child pornography back in 2003? Maybe you don’t.

More background on the issue accounts for what went on in 1999 when he paid $7 to access a website that carried a ‘click here for child porn’ button. Pete Townshend cancelled the site but police tracked his name from his credit card and confiscated his computer and files and cited “exhaustion” and not wanting to be “ripped apart” as the reason for not taking the incident to court.
Pete Townshend claimed he had done so ‘purely to see what was there’ as part of a research project. The investigation took 4 months to complete, and on that registry list he went. Speaking to The Times about the charges, he said: “I knew that all I had to write was the truth. But what I did was insane.” Pete Townshend said he had wanted to demonstrate that child abuse and pornography had financial roots everywhere from Russian orphanages to British banks.
